The second season of House of the Dragon is currently in full swing on HBO, and the prequel series follows the Targaryen reign nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has always been open about his feelings towards the adaptations of his works and recently praised House of the Dragon's second season. However, there is one thing about the series and its predecessor that he's not too happy with. In a recent blog post, the author revealed he doesn't care for the way the Targaryen sigil is depicted in the series.

Martin originally designed the Targaryen sigil as a dragon with three heads, two legs, and two wings. When Game of Thrones first started, it followed Martin's design for the house's sigil. However, it was changed along the way and House of the Dragon continues to use the second design, which features four legs.

"No animal that has ever lived on Earth has six limbs," Martin wrote. "For what it's worth, the shows got it half right," Martin added. "Someone got sloppy, I guess. Or someone opened a book on heraldry, and read just enough of it to muck it all up. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing," he added, referring to the show's fifth season changing when Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) fleet finally headed towards Westeros.

"Much of the confusion about the proper number of legs on a dragon has its roots in medieval heraldry," Martin wrote. "In the beginning both versions could be seen on shields and banners, but over the centuries, as heraldry became more standardized, the heralds took to calling the four-legged beasties dragons and their two-legged kin wyverns. No one had ever seen a dragon or a wyvern, of course; neither creature actually existed save in legend, so there was a certain arbitrary quality to this distinction... and medieval heralds were not exactly renowned for their grasp of zoology, even for real world animals. Just take a look at what they thought a seahorse looked like."

"Dragons DO exist in the world of Westeros, however (wyverns too, down in Sothoryos), so my own heralds did not have that excuse. Ergo, in my books, the Targaryen sigil has two legs, as it should," he explained. "Why would any Westerosi ever put four legs on a dragon, when they could look at the real thing and could their limbs? My wyverns have two legs as well; they differ from the dragons of my world chiefly in size, coloration, and the inability to breath fire. (It should be stressed that while the Targaryen sigil has the proper number of legs (two), it is not exactly anatomically correct. The wings are way too small compared to the body, and of course no dragon has three heads. That bit is purely symbolic, meant to reflect Aegon the Conqueror and his two sisters)."

Based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood book, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. In Season 2 of House of the Dragon, Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively. New episodes of House of the Dragon premiere every Sunday on HBO at 9 p.m. ET.

The cast for House of the Dragon includes Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower, Emma D'Arcy as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Ewan Mitchell as Prince Aemond Targaryen, Tom Glynn-Carney as King Aegon II Targaryen, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, and Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower.

House of the Dragon's fifth episode of Season 2 drops on HBO on July 14th.

Iron Fist: Marvel Teases "Tragic Turn" for Danny Rand's Return https://comicbook.com/comics/news/iron-fist-danny-rand-tragic-turn-teased-50th-anniversary/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 00:02:00 +0000 Adam Barnhardt 8624ab3f-bb31-4e39-8617-9e9e0f018559

The Immortal Iron Fist may soon be immortal no more. Danny Rand first appeared in the pages of Marvel Premiere #15 in 1974, and he'll soon receive a hearty celebration in the form of Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special #1. Though such an occasion would typically call for a jubilee, the House of Ideas is teasing a "tragic turn" for the Protector of K'un-Lun. With the oversized one-shot featuring stories from every point in time, the publisher notes it Danny Rand's that will be most tragic. What that tragic turn has yet to be seen, other than the fact it will appear in one of the comic's five stories.

"Ever since I saw Danny Rand in those green and yellows, I was a fan--not just because we shared a name, but because that look was so iconic!" Marvel editor Danny Khazem shared of the anniversary issue. "So to be able to work on this issue with all of these talented creators is a huge honor and pleasure. Danny's story has spanned five decades, but the legacy of the Iron Fist spans MILLIONS of years! And this issue dares to be the next step in not only the future of Danny Rand, but the future of the entire Iron Fist lore! Strap in as this is just the beginning!"

Is Finn Jones returning as Iron Fist?

With some actors returning to their Marvel roles in the MCU, namely Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, it has yet to be seen if Iron Fist star Finn Jones will be one of those who receive a callback. When we spoke with the actor in 2022, he told ComicBook he'd love to play the Sworn Enemy of the Hand once more.

"I would love to continue playing that character. I think there's a lot of room for growth. Personally, where I would like to see the reintroduction of the character would be something like a Heroes for Hire TV series," Jones said at the time. " I think that would be the most dynamic and fun way to reintroduce those characters. I loved working with Mike and I loved the on-screen chemistry between Danny and Luke. I think it's a really interesting creative place that show can be taken in. I'd love to pick up that mantle again and keep moving this character forward and make the best possible Iron Fist there could be."

Both seasons of Iron Fist are now streaming on Disney+.

American Vandal Gets Surprising Update Years After Netflix Cancellation https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/american-vandal-gets-surprising-update-years-after-netflix-cancellation/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 23:57:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 81d12e5f-c89c-458b-bf3f-d26c3762d437

It's been six years since American Vandal, the popular documentary satire series, was canceled by Netflix. The show was loved by critics and audiences alike and currently stands on Rotten Tomatoes with a 98% critics score and 91% audience score after two seasons. "American Vandal will not return for a third season," Netflix said in a statement when the cancellation was announced. "We're very grateful to the creators, writers, cast, and crew for bringing their innovative comedy to Netflix, and to the fans and critics who embraced its unique and unconventional humor." Now, it looks like the show has a chance at a second life.

According to Deadline, the rights to the first batch of original series CBS Studios produced for Netflix have reverted back to the studio. CBS Studios President David Stapf David Stapf spoke to Deadline about "streamers' growing appetite for broadcast-style procedurals," and teased that something could eventually be in the works involving American Vandal.

"We're exploring that, we loved that show and that title," Stapf shared. "There's nothing imminent, but we hope to bring it back in some fashion at some point."

American Vandal Creators Address Cancellation:

Back in 2022, Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault spoke with ComingSoon and opened up about the cancelation of American Vandal.

"I think it's a bummer to have something you love canceled, but we also are so grateful for the opportunity," Yacenda said. "If you describe the premise of that show to anyone, it's crazy that somebody let us make that show in the first place. So I think there were a lot of external market forces that made it possible for that show to be made in 2016. And by 2018, the streaming market was very much changing. But I don't think we could complain about the latter without being very grateful for the former."

"Tony and I had worked for years before Vandal, but that, in a way, really felt like another step for us in learning how best to work with each other," Perrault added. "And I think a lot of the toolkit we used on Players comes directly from our experience with Vandal. We're super grateful to Netflix and everyone who gave us that opportunity."

"I echo what Tony said in that I think we were very lucky to have sold that and to have been able to do that when we did," Perrault continued. "The show also kicked my ass because it was hard. Both of these mockumentaries are not the easiest to make between the gameplay and different elements of Players and then also creating these complex social media worlds of these fictional characters. But I couldn't be more grateful that we got the opportunity. And I think one thing that I'm grateful for in addition to that is that each season is self-contained. It's not in the nature of American Vandal to ever end on a cliffhanger, but thank God we didn't."

Solar Opposites Season 5 Poster Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/solar-opposites-season-5-release-date-hulu-poster/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 23:27:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 7feea459-cc93-45b4-8027-b0497dc66a8f

Solar Opposites is finally coming back for Season 5 of the animated series later this Summer, and Hulu has shared a new poster to help celebrate! Solar Opposites made some big changes ahead of Season 4 following Hulu cutting ties with former co-creator and voice of Korvo, Justin Roiland, and the season itself followed through even further with some bigger changes to the actual status quo. It's made the wait for the new episodes even tougher as fans wait to see how many of those changes from the Season 4 cliffhanger actually stick. Thankfully, the wait won't be for too much longer.

It's been fairly quiet as for what fans can expect to see from the next season of Solar Opposites, and Season 5 thankfully will be making its return to Hulu beginning on August 12th. To help celebrate the upcoming premiere of the new episodes, Solar Opposites has confirmed its release date with a special poster for the season featuring the core members of its makeshift family. You can check out the first look at Solar Opposites Season 5 below.

What to Know Solar Opposites

Solar Opposites Season 5 will be making its debut on August 12th with Hulu, but has yet to confirm how many episodes it will be sticking around for. Dan Stevens took over from Justin Roiland as the voice of Korvo for Solar Opposites Season 4, and will be returning for Season 5 of the series along with Thomas Middleditch as Terry, Sean Giambrone as Yumyulack, and Mary Mack as Jesse all returning for their respective roles.

As for what went down in the newest season of the series, Hulu teases Solar Opposites Season 4 as such, "On season four of Solar Opposites, we pack up the sci-fi and get normal... for a second. Then it's back to classic Solar chaos, mayhem in the Wall, and some all new Silvercops adventures!" You can also check out the first three seasons and holiday specials with Hulu as well.

Solar Opposites producer Sydney Ryan spoke to ComicBook about getting Dan Stevens as the new voice of Korvo, "We didn't want to match the previous voice and felt like it would come across like we were doing a cover song," Ryan stated. "Solar is a show where wild stuff can happen, and since the aliens already have ray guns that can do all sorts of things, we thought it would be funny to use this in-show method to explain the voice change. Even with a big shift, we still wanted to preserve the humor and emotional aspects that we've built for Korvo over the years. We worked with our casting team, listened to a ton of auditions, and met with some incredible actors."

True Detective Night Country Blu-Ray Review: Bringing It All Together https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/true-detective-night-country-blu-ray-review-hbo/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 23:27:00 +0000 Aaron Perine da58418b-5603-455f-bd08-401f36238e1f

True Detective: Night Country is out on home video now and fans who love the series are trying to unite all the seasons under one roof. (The Blu-Ray release of Season 4 of the popular HBO series presents a chance to get the show in the best clarity possible with all of the extras.) For the initiated, True Detective: Night Country stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as Alaskan detectives charged with solving the disappearance of eight scientists. Other characters circle the truth and play a role in unwinding this mystery. The Blu-ray retails for $29.98 here in the United States and the DVD is on sale for $24.98. As it stands, this release might only be for the most devoted True Detective fans. But, there is one factor that could sway that assessment,

First of all, show runner, Issa L?pez decided to completely reinvigorate the true detective series with a holy unique entry. The show runner handles directing duties on the first episode and offers more intrigue in this bonus features on this disk in the new chapter section of the release, Lopez goes into detail describing night countries, unique role of the series. Needless to say, there's something strange going on up there in Alaska and it links to the previous iterations of this show in surprising ways.

Something is afoot.

But, maybe more importantly, the release has a featurette on how's that locale powers this story. Lopez and the rest of the creative team made sure that Alaska's hostile environment feels like another character in the fray. The same way a lot of the great True Detective destinations have been in the past. In addition, this is a release of a beloved streaming show on home video and that's been far from a sure thing in recent years. It's probably worth kicking the tires on Night Country on the strength of that fact alone.

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment describes this season of the show: "When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."

How Good Is True Detective Night Country?

What in the world is going on?

Being a long-running series on HBO, the question really becomes: do you think True Detective is good? One part of the equation that might sway folks that are on the fence is how True Detective: Night Country plays with the established lore of the previous entries. ComicBook's Patrick Cavanaugh argues that this season of the show ended up being a shot in the arm it sorely needed. For that reason, it's worth a shot for people with a passing interest.

"True Detective fans who felt disappointed by the previous two seasons will appreciate the overall premise of Night Country and its more straightforward investigation into a gruesome crime, which is anchored by talented performers bringing to life tremendously flawed figures who still feel compelled to do what's right," Cavanaugh said. "Those fans who felt mostly drawn to the implication of supernatural forces in Season 1 will also feel satisfied by how Night Country leans even further into those elements, cementing this story firmly in the world of horror."

DVD and Blu-ray is out now!

- HBO)

"Luckily, the horrors of the series won't entirely turn off all audiences, as fans of films like Wind River, Hold the Dark, and Insomnia will also be engaged by the frozen foray into a small-town murder. Night Country proves there can still be life in the True Detective brand, so long as HBO continues to empower ambitious storytellers like L?pez, while also showcasing that a gripping adventure is comprised of far more than just a recognizable title," he adds. "Whether Night Country would have been better as a standalone series or not will never be known, but after waiting nearly a decade, longtime True Detective fans will be pleased to see that this new season is the best the franchise has been since we first learned that time was a flat circle."

So, if you're a True Detective sicko or a relative newcomer, there's a lot to like when it comes to the newest release of HBO's long-running series. True Detective: Night Country is available on home video and digital right now.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Image Reveals Another Ringbearer https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-lord-of-the-rings-the-rings-of-power-season-2-image-cirdan-the-shipwright-elf-ringbearer/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 20:58:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 74945500-d7ce-4433-bc4c-e018d0037e11

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a little over a month away from premiering on Prime Video, and there have been a lot of teases about the new season ranging from Sauron's sinister plans to the promise of some "grander scale" battles. We've also seen some images of new characters, including Damrod, a Hill-troll known as the "eater of dragon bones." This week, Entertainment Weekly shared another new photo of C?rdan the Shipwright, a legendary character who will played by The Crown's Ben Daniels. The character is an "elf, a master shipbuilder, and font of wisdom" and another ringbearer in the Lord of the Rings universe.

"The wonderful Ben Daniels is playing C?rdan," co-showrunner J.D. Payne shared with EW. "He's a classically trained British actor and brings a lot of wisdom and gravitas to the role."

"Also, his humor and warmth," co-showrunner Patrick McKay added. "We really fell in love with him in The Crown and wanted to work with him."

Who Is C?rdan the Shipwright?

C?rdan is well-known from J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium. You can read a description of the character here: "As a master shipbuilder, C?rdan is master of the Grey Havens. That's the harbor in the Lindon region that can transport elves who have tired of Middle-earth back to the Undying Lands of Valinor. The last chapter of The Lord of the Rings is titled 'The Grey Havens,' because the story ends with Frodo Baggins and the other ring-bearers (including C?rdan) departing Middle-earth at the end of the Third Age."

"What I know and what I can say for a fact is that it's going to be darker, and it's going to be edgier and more character-driven," Season 2 director Charlotte Br?ndstr?m shared with MovieZine earlier this year. "I still think that we have some very interesting episodes coming up. I watched all of them over Christmas, just the cuts. I think it's going to be a very good season. We tried to make it more gritty, a little bit more dirty I guess. And not in the image, but to make it as authentic as possible. We have some very surprising twists and turns in it as well."

The Rings of Power cast includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz C?rdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani. Season 1 star Nazanin Boniadi will not be returning as the healer Bronwyn, having moved on from acting.

Stay tuned for updates on Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is expected to premiere on Prime Video on August 29th.

The Dragon Prince Season 6 Trailer Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/the-dragon-prince-season-6-trailer/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 20:57:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 77359579-7b64-4184-94bb-10d6d5ffe504

The Dragon Prince is now inching closer to its return to Netflix with new episodes, and the animated series has dropped a dark new trailer for Season 6! The Dragon Prince has been steadily working its way through the Mystery of Aaravos saga since the start of the fourth season, and fans might have noticed just how much more intense the series has gotten compared to the earlier seasons. With what we have seen from Season 6 thus far, it looks like this trend is going to continue in the coming episodes as the animated series gets closer than ever to its end.

The Dragon Prince Season 6 will be the second to the last of the seasons ordered by Netflix to tell the animated series' story, so that likely means it's going to be full of gamechanging moments to help set it all up before the climax. The Dragon Prince Season 6 has been sharing ominous looks at the new episodes leading to its premiere, and that's especially the case for the newest trailer that you can check out below.

What to Know for The Dragon Prince Season 6

The Dragon Prince Season 6 will be releasing on Netflix on July 26th, but has yet to reveal how many episodes it will be sticking around for. This serves as the second to last season of the animated series, so now is the perfect time to catch up with every season of the series released thus far now streaming with Netflix. As for what went down in the previous season, Wonderstorm teases The Dragon Prince Season 5 as such:

"The Netflix animated series THE DRAGON PRINCE returns for a nine-episode fifth season on July 27, 2023. In this exciting next chapter of the 'Mystery of Aaravos' arc, we rejoin our heroes after their narrow escape from the depths of Umber Tor. With the map to Aaravos' prison in hand, Claudia and Terry race against time to save Viren's life. Meanwhile, Callum, Rayla, Ezran, and Soren seek out new friends (and old) to help them prevent the return of the infamous Startouch Elf."

Speaking to the darker tone in The Dragon Prince Season 5, series co-creator Justin Richmond noted the evolution happening in the later seasons to ComicBook as such, "Yeah, since the beginning, we'd always said that these seasons get progressively more mature and some of that means that we go to darker places and this is the first flexing of those muscles in terms of putting it into the show. That doesn't mean that it's grimdark and Warhammer-esque, but trying to go to emotionally different places with the characters, I think, was important. That being said, we still have two more to go, so there are definitely highs and lows in this season, and I think the peaks and valleys will continue as we head towards Season 7 and what we have planned there."

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage: Young Sheldon Spinoff Premiere Date Revealed https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/georgie-mandys-first-marriage-young-sheldon-spinoff-premiere-date-revealed/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 19:58:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 021fd463-b4bc-4dbb-ae89-aee2850e5beb

As the summer movie box office heats up, some entertainment fans are already longing for the fall TV schedule. There are a lot of new shows to look forward to this year, including another entry to The Big Bang Theory universe on CBS. The Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons on the network before its spinoff series, Young Sheldon, became another huge success. The prequel series recently came to an end after seven seasons, and its series finale was a huge ratings hit. Now, another spinoff is in the works titled Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage, and it is set to debut on Thursday, October 17th at 8 PM ET.

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage will debut before the Season 4 premiere of Ghosts, which will be followed by the second episode of another new series, the Matlock reboot starring Kathy Bates. The evening of new episodes will conclude with the Season 2 premiere of Elsbeth.

Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage will follow Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) as they raise their young family in Texas while navigating the challenges of adulthood, parenting, and marriage. Jordan and Osment are reprising their roles from Young Sheldon. Georgie is Sheldon's older brother and Mandy is his wife. The young couple has a baby in Young Sheldon, and the new series will explore their journey through parenthood. Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, and Steve Holland will serve as executive producers of the series, from Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.

"It has been a privilege to spend the last seven years with Sheldon and the Cooper family and now this wonderful journey will continue with Georgie and Mandy," Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement when the series was first announced to be in development. "Chuck and both Steves have done a masterful job developing these characters and entertaining generations of fans with relatable, heartwarming stories brought to life by Montana and Emily. We eagerly look forward to the next chapter in this beloved universe."

At this time, it's unclear if CBS is looking into any other Big Bang franchise projects.

As mentioned above, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage will debut on Thursday, October 17th at 8/7c on CBS. Stay tuned for more updates about the upcoming fall TV schedule, and more TV news.

Matlock Reboot Starring Kathy Bates Finally Gets Premiere Date https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/matlock-reboot-starring-kathy-bates-finally-gets-premiere-date/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 18:58:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 6e3a90dd-f453-4c3d-a056-41043902fdad

At the beginning of 2023, it was announced that Oscar-winning actor Kathy Bates would be starring in a TV reboot of Matlock. The beloved mystery/legal drama series starred Andy Griffith as criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock, and it ran for nine seasons between 1986 and 1995. Bates will take on the role of the titular lawyer in the new version, which was previously announced to debut on CBS this fall. Now, the show has been given an official premiere date. You can officially see Bates in the role starting Sunday, September 22nd.

Matlock is set to debut at 8 PM ET on Sunday, September 22nd, which is a special night and time. The series premiere will have its encore on Thursday, October 10th at 9 PM ET after Big Brother and before a repeat of Elsebeth. The show will continue to air on Thursday nights with its second episode debuting on CBS on October 17th at 9 PM ET. The show was originally expected to be part of the 2023 season but was delayed to the 2024-2025 cycle amid last year's Hollywood strikes.

Matlock stars Emmy and Academy Award winner Kathy Bates as Madeline "Matty" Matlock, a brilliant septuagenarian who achieved success in her younger years and decides to rejoin the workforce at a prestigious law firm where she uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases. Matty is assigned to Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), a senior attorney and key rainmaker with a thirst for justice. Olympia's ex-husband, Julian (Jason Ritter), the son of the head of the firm, is intrigued by Matty and her clever skills. As Matty endeavors to establish herself in her new high-stakes world, she works alongside the firm's younger associates - the charismatic Billy (David Del Rio) and the uber-ambitious Sarah (Leah Lewis).

Matlock is inspired by the classic television series of the same name. In addition to Bates in the title role, Matlock stars Beau Bridges as Senior, Yael Grobglas as Shae, Skye P. Marshall as Olympia, Jason Ritter as Julian, David Del Rio as Billy and Leah Lewis as Sarah. Bates, Jennie Snyder Urman, Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen and John Will are executive producers. Kat Coiro directed the pilot from a script written by Urman. The series is produced by CBS Studios.

Matlock debuts on CBS on September 22nd.

Doctor Who: Jodie Whitaker, Mandip Gill Return for New Thirteenth Doctor Adventures https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/doctor-who-the-thirteenth-doctor-adventures-jodie-whittaker-mandip-gill/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 18:13:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 1ee33355-d9e9-4cc7-baf1-31fb5442bcaa

Jodie Whittaker will reprise the Doctor, alongside Mandip Gill as companion Yaz, in Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures. Big Finish Audio announced a series of 12 full-cast, hour-long audio adventures on Saturday, debuting in July 2025. Whittaker played the Doctor on Doctor Who for three seasons of the beloved sci-fi series, beginning in 2017 and ending with the Doctor Who special "The Power" of the Doctor" in 2022. Gill's Yaz was one of several companions to accompany the Thirteenth Doctor on her adventures, and the only one of them to be with her from her first episode to her last televised adventure.

"I'm over the moon to be joining Big Finish for more adventures in the TARDIS," Whittaker says in a statement released by Big Finish. "Recording the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz is a really lovely thing to revisit. One of the things Mandip and I used to love on Doctor Who was getting in, doing a new episode and meeting a brand-new cast. I just can't wait to step back into the boots, pull on the coat and get cracking. One thing's for sure, it's going to be brilliant."

Gill adds, "Doctor Who has been a huge part of my career and personal life and I am looking forward to seeing how I can further enrich my character through this exhilarating series. To be able to work with Jodie again is a dream come true, we have such a special friendship, I'm sure the recordings will be filled with laughter."

Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures is the latest Big Finish series to spin out from Chris Chibnall's time as Doctor Who showrunner. Big Finish previously announced two related series, one bringing back Jo Martin as the Fugitive Doctor and the other starring Sacha Dhawan as the Master.

The Thirteenth Doctor Returns to Doctor Who

"This year Big Finish is celebrating its 25th anniversary of producing full-cast Doctor Who audio drama - so, when we were granted the license to create new stories set during the Thirteenth Doctor's era, we immediately set to work," Big Finish chairman Jason Haigh-Ellery says. "I am delighted that the inimitable Jodie and Mandip have decided to return to their roles with us and I'm excited to welcome them to Big Finish. Alongside our two other forthcoming series for the Fugitive Doctor (played by Jo Martin) and the Master (played by Sacha Dhawan), 2025 has never looked brighter for the Thirteenth Doctor and her fam."

Big Finish creative director Nicholas Briggs adds, "Jodie and Mandip were so welcoming to me when I worked on set with them in the TV show, so I'm looking forward to repaying the compliment. They're lovely people and they're full of enthusiasm for this project."

Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures is now available to pre-order on the Big Finish website. The series can be purchased in its entirety or can be obtained on a per-episode basis. It will be available both digitally and on CD.

The Boys Finally Confirms Why Kimiko Can't Speak https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-boys-why-kimiko-cant-speak/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 05:01:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson fd32af64-0c75-4e7e-b3db-9f728682d0f5

The fourth season of The Boys is nearly in the books, after weeks of remixing a lot of the Prime Video series' lore. This was especially the case in the series' latest episode, "The Insider", which unveiled a surprising justification for why Kimiko Miyashiro (Karen Fukuhara) has been mute for the entirety of the series. As she explains in the episode, she was taught by her captors at the Shining Light Liberation Army to move and fight like a "ghost", with deadly consequences if someone speaks or screams. Eventually, Kimiko murdered multiple young girls "without making a sound," only to discover that she couldn't speak once she was allowed to.

"From initial conversations with [showrunner Eric] Kripke, we spoke about having Kimiko's muteness not come from a physical attribute because if it was a physical attribute, it's sometimes impossible to get your voice back after a physical trauma," Fukuhara explained in a recent interview with TheWrap. "So I said to [Kripke], I don't think it can be a physical attribute if we want that tinge of hope, if we want to change the storyline or incorporate that in future seasons, and he was really receptive to that early on."

"I love it because this entire season is about even the heroic characters facing their demons, such as Annie's past with Firecracker. She was never this cookie-cutter good person that we always expected her to be, and I love that entire storyline and backstory because it gives her a lot more humanity. I think the writers were able to do that with Kimiko," Fukuhara said. "She's always kind of viewed herself as a victim to Shining Light, a victim to Compound V. A victim to all the s-tty things that have come her way, but Season 4 ,she had to face her own own darkness and own up to all the wrongdoing she did to other people."

What Is The Boys Season 4 About?

In Season Four of The Boys, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca's son as well as his job as The Boys' leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it's too late.

The Boys stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti. Season Four will welcome Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Bosch Spinoff Adds Abbott Elementary Star https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/bosch-spinoff-adds-abbott-elementary-star-courtney-taylor/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 03:55:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 6149451f-1313-4d8f-b108-571cd6299ffc

Amazon Prime Video's untitled Bosch spinoff has added another member to its cast. According to Deadline, the upcoming series -- which will center around Detective Renee Ballard, played by Maggie Q -- has added Courtney Taylor to the cast as a series regular. Taylor has previously appeared on. Netflix's Neon as well as Abbott Elementary, Insecure, and The Company You Keep and will next appear in the second season of AppleTV+'s Shrinking. The series was given a 10-episode order back in November.

Taylor is set to play Samira Parker who is described as "a wary, impulsive and tough woman with a burning desire for justice. Growing up, most everyone Samira knew shared a healthy distrust of the police, but her grandfather, whom Samira looked up to as a kid, was on the force and believed in using his police badge to protect and aid his community. However, being a cop now is a different kind of challenge than it was back then. Give years after leaving the police force, Samira's former mentor, Renee Ballard, convinces her to return to the LAPD's Cold Case Unit, where she works to right the wrongs of the past and bring peace to families and victims, and in the process, Samira slowly restores her own sense of justice."

What is the Unnamed Bosch Spinoff About?

The Bosch spinoff is inspired by the novels of author Michael Connelly and will follow Detective Renee Ballard who is tasked with running the LAPD's new cold-case unit. Per the description, the unit is "a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest caseload in the city. Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she'll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life."

Connelly is set to serve as executive producer under his Hieronymus Pictures banner along with Michael Alaimo, Kendall Sherwood, and Trish Hoffman. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate will executive produce for Fabel Entertainment. Jasmine Russ will serve as co-executive producer for Fabel Entertainment while Theresa Snider will co-executive produce for Hieronymous Pictures. Jamie Boscardin Martin and Trey Batchelor also serve as co-executive producers. Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood will serve as showrunners. The series is expected to debut exclusively on Prime Video.

"From books to screen, Michael Connelly creates authentic and suspenseful stories, led by distinctive characters who make audiences care and connect. Ren?e Ballard is one of those characters. She instantly captivated readers with hints of a troubled past and a protective layer of idiosyncrasies she developed to survive," Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD originals, unscripted, and targeted programming at Amazon MGM Studios said. "We look forward to expanding the Bosch universe with Michael and introducing viewers to Ballard's personal approach to pursuing justice."

"It is so exciting to bring Ren?e Ballard to the screen and to do it with Prime Video, my streaming partners for going on 10 years. This show will have the same authenticity and propulsive momentum of Bosch: Legacy. Fans of the books will love it," Connelly added.

Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige Confirmed for Surprising SDCC Panel https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-studios-kevin-feige-confirmed-sdcc-panel/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 03:11:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson a313dd67-dc50-4d1a-ad38-8ab0ec5813be

In the eyes of many fans, Marvel Studios has become synonymous with San Diego Comic-Con, showing up at the annual event to announce new movies and television shows to great fanfare. The studio is already confirmed to be returning to the convention's iconic Hall H panel room, but as it turns out, that won't be the only panel Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige appears in. Based on a recent update to San Diego Comic-Con's panel schedule, Feige is confirmed to be appearing on Marvel Comics' "Marvel Fanfare" panel, which will occur in Room 6DE on Friday, July 26th. The panel will be a discussion between Feige, who also serves as the the CCO of all of Marvel, and Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski.

"Marvel masters collide in an unprecedented meeting of page and screen!" the official panel description reads. "Marvel Comics editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski and Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige discuss their mutual love for all things Marvel Comics along with some special surprise creators. With decades of creative storytelling at the House of Ideas between them, there will be no shortage of insider insights and unheard comic book anecdotes that you can't afford to miss. And if that wasn't enough... following the discussion, fans will receive an exclusive giveaway comic!"

What Is Marvel Bringing to San Diego Comic-Con 2024?

With the trailers for Marvel's next theatrical and Disney+ releases, Captain America: Brave New World and Agatha All Along, dropping earlier this week, there's no telling what else they might bring to their presentation. Other projects that are on the horizon and have begun filming include Thunderbolts*, Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, and Wonder Man. The studio's highly-anticipated reboot of The Fantastic Four is scheduled to begin production in the days after San Diego Comic-Con.

"Our director, Matt Shakman has already moved to London, and we start filming at the end of July," Feige revealed in an interview last month. "Funny story, we start shooting the Monday after Comic-Con. We start filming the day after on The Fantastic Four. I'm extremely excited, because those characters are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel Universe that we've never gotten to play with or explore in any significant way apart from [Doctor Strange in the] Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before, in the way we're doing that film. So, I'm extremely excited."

Star Wars: The Acolyte Finally Delivers Wookiee Jedi Action https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-finally-delivers-wookiee-jedi-action-kelnacca-reactions/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 01:52:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 8064c632-6fc5-418a-b930-1b44b65bd47f

Joonas Suotamo first joined Star Wars when he took over the role of Chewbacca from Peter Mayhew, and now he's back as a brand new Wookiee: Kelnacca. Fans were thrilled when they first learned about the new character because it marked the first time a Wookiee was also a Jedi in a live-action Star Wars project. Sadly, Kelnacca died in the show's fourth episode without ever seeing any action. However, the most recent episode of the series, "Choice," was a flashback to the events of Brendok that featured a great Kelnacca scene. The Wookiee was mind-controlled by the witches and forced to fight his fellow Jedi. After the episode dropped, many fans took to social media to celebrate Kelnacca's big moment.

"This duel from the latest episode of The Acolyte was seriously so great," @jtimsuggs tweeted. "The choreography in this show has been nothing short of spectacular, and finally seeing Kelnacca in action was as entertaining as it was terrifying."

"Seeing a Wookiee Jedi go ham in live-action has gotta be a top 10 Star Wars moment of the decade," @TheSWU wrote. "Wookie Jedi fight was such a delight," @ArmandDoma added.

"My fave part of Acolyte Episode 7 is seeing a Wookie Jedi use a lightsaber in a good fight, first time in 47 years! They have strength and saber / Force skills, much better than weakling humans. Now I want to see the entire SW franchise with Wookie leads instead!" @kevinwinston praised.

Leslye Headland Explains Kelnacca's Big Fight Scene:

ComicBook recently had the chance to join a press roundtable with The Acolyte creator, Leslye Headland, and we asked what went into the choreography of the fight considering they had to balance Kelnacca's Wookiee strength with his Jedi skills all while being mind-controlled.

"Wookiees are not obviously against antagonists ... They can be very aggressive, but they have this honor code specifically about extending their claws, which they don't do for anything except climbing," Headland explained. "So what we talked about was that when he was under this particular influence, not only would he be so aggressive against his friends and ostensibly the heroes of the story in a way that felt pretty vicious and unlike his own personality, but that also he would unknowingly make this horrible, horrendous choice that he would never make in under his own will. He would never have done so."

"I guess technically he would get a pass for that, but I don't think he gives himself a pass for it," she continued. "But the fight was incredible. I mean, that was all Kogonada who directed the episode, Chris Cowan, my action choreographer, and also the second unit director, the actors. Joonas is the only person who fits in the suit. So he did all of his own stunts in fighting. JJ did almost all of his own stunts in fighting. My only contribution to it was the one time when Sol is grabbing his arm and saying his name. I just thought it felt like Sol would try to get through to him emotionally, not just fight him."

The season finale of Star Wars: The Acolyte drops on Disney+ on July 16th.

Kids Choice Awards Adds Margot Robbie & Timothée Chalamet https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/kids-choice-awards-margot-robbie-timothee-chalamet-2024/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 21:14:00 +0000 Aaron Perine ddf8f949-2a95-4b14-9657-468afbec1a96

Kids Choice Awards 2024 will have Margot Robbie and Timoth?e Chalamet in the building. Live from Bikini Bottom, Nickelodeon's long-running kids awards show will see the stars of Barbie and Dune grace the event. This year's event will see over 50 first-time nominees looking for an orange blimp. Variety reported that Robbie and Chalamet were going to make an appearance. At 8pm tomorrow, all these stars will converge on the Pauley Pavilion for a slime-filled show. SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star are on the mic to host the Kids Choice Awards 2024. (That means voice actors Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke get their day in sun after a stellar call of this year's Super Bowl game.) What a scene it will be.

But, Barbie and Paul Atreides won't be having all the fun. Super Mario Bros. Movie star Jack Black will be in attendance as well. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse voice actor, Shameik Moore. They are a part of a long list of celebrities, including Anna Kendrick, Rene? Rapp, Jelly Roll and Good Burger 2s Kenan Thompson anKeCal Mitchell. WNBA phenom Caitlin Clark will be up for an award as well Travis Kelce, Ryan Gosling, Post Malone, Patrick Mahomes, Olivia, Rodrigo, Ryan, Reynolds, Paul Rudd, Zoe Saldana, Justin, Timberlake, Zendaya, and of course, one Taylor Swift. Things are shaping up to be absolutely massive at the Kids Choice Awards.

SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star Set To Host

As we mentioned up above SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star are behind the microphone for a toast for hosting duties this time around. Before kids choice awards 2024 gets rolling, ComicBook had a chance to catch up with Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke to talk about the upcoming event. In our conversation, both voice actors credited the longevity of SpongeBob for such an opportunity even happening. Even as Times in taste change among younger audiences, one thing has remained, the same, they still love the little yellow sponge and all of his friends. You can tell by listening to Kenny and his co-star, they do too.

"The secret to the endurance of the characters is who they are as characters and how they interact with one another as characters,' the duo told ComicBook. "Individually, Spongebob and Patrick are cool but when you put them together, then you get a comedy team happening in the classic sense like Laurel and Hardy. That's what we aspired to emulate anyway."

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is coming back to Prime Video for its second season in August, and we've already seen some exciting teases about the upcoming episodes. The showrunners have teased Sauron's plans in Season 2 and also revealed some "grander scale" battles along the way. Thanks to Empire Online, fans are also getting a glimpse of the live-action debut of the Hill-troll. Previously, fans met the Cave-troll in Peter Jackson's The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring, and the first season of The Rings of Power featured a Snow-troll. Now, fans will meet Damrod, a Hill-troll known as the "eater of dragon bones."

"[He] was inspired in part by Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul," co-showrunner Patrick McKay revealed. "If you look at the way he moves and his casual sense of strength." Damrod is being voiced by Benjamin Walker. You can check out an image of the character below:

What Is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 About?

(Photo: Prime Video)

"What I know and what I can say for a fact is that it's going to be darker, and it's going to be edgier and more character-driven," Season 2 director Charlotte Br?ndstr?m shared with MovieZine earlier this year. "I still think that we have some very interesting episodes coming up. I watched all of them over Christmas, just the cuts. I think it's going to be a very good season. We tried to make it more gritty, a little bit more dirty I guess. And not in the image, but to make it as authentic as possible. We have some very surprising twists and turns in it as well."

First Batman: Caped Crusader Clip Released by DC https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/first-batman-caped-crusader-clip-released-online-dc-prime-video/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 20:49:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson a9f0b48a-1256-4369-b43c-564711f49ec8

A new era of Batman animation is set to arrive this August, with the release of the Prime Video animated series Batman: Caped Crusader. The new show, which promises to deliver a noir-driven take on DC's iconic Dark Knight, has already surprised fans with its trailers and marketing material thus far -- and now, that includes the first clip for the series. On Friday, DC released a brief clip from Caped Crusader, which showcases Bruce Wayne / Batman (Hamish Linklater) driving his new Batmobile down the streets of Gotham. This clip comes ahead of Caped Crusader's presence at this month's San Diego Comic-Con, which will include a screening and panel on Saturday, July 27th. Executive producer Matt Reeves and series stars Linklater, Jamie Chung, and Minnie Driver are all set to be in attendance.

"We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City," Timm, Abrams, and Reeves said in a statement when the series was first announced. "The series will be thrilling, cinematic, and evocative of Batman's noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world."

What Is Batman: Caped Crusader About?

In Batman: Caped Crusader, welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne (Hamish Linklater) becomes something both more and less than human--the BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications. The cast of Batman: Caped Crusader also includes Christina Ricci, Jamie Chung, Diedrich Bader, Minnie Driver, Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy Brown, John DiMaggio, Mckenna Grace, Jason Watkins, Paul Scheer, Reid Scott, Gary Anthony Williams, Dan Donohue, David Krumholtz, and Haley Joel Osment.

The series is a reimagining of the Batman mythology through the visionary lens of executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm. Based on DC characters, Batman: Caped Crusader hails from Warner Bros. Animation, Abrams' Bad Robot Productions and Reeves' 6th & Idaho. Along with Abrams, Reeves and Timm, Batman: Caped Crusader executive producers include Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Daniel Pipski, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register.

Batman: Caped Crusader will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Thursday, August 1st.

SpongeBob SquarePants Stars Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke Speak Out on Playing Iconic Characters https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/spongebob-squarepants-stars-tom-kenny-bill-fagerbakke-interview-iconic-characters/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 20:23:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 294e408f-70fd-439e-b368-8fdfa102b1a9

Bill Fagerbakke and Tom Kenny have played the parts of Spongebob and Patrick on Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants for almost twenty-five years. In that time, the series has skyrocketed in popularity as it has garnered hundreds of television episodes, several feature-length films, and a handful of spin-off series. In a new interview with the legendary voice actor, Tom and Bill were able to dive deeper into their respective roles and whether or not they've approached the parts of Patrick and Spongebob any differently since they first began the parts. While Spongebob is about to turn twenty-five, many fans are hoping for twenty-five more years of Bikini Bottom.

Tom Kenny kicked off the interview by stating that he hasn't changed his approach to bringing to life the Krusty Krab fry cook, "I would say that my approach to the character hasn't changed because regardless of what the technology is, whether its motion capture at a live event or we're doing an episode or a video game or cel animation from the first season or computer animation like from the movies, our job is the same as it was in 1999. We just had to be them. Just to be Spongebob and be Patrick, to channel them."

Spongebob, Patrick, Bill, Tom, And Steve

Bill Fagerbakke added to Kenny's thoughts, as the voice actor continues to portray Patrick in both the main series and his spin-off, The Patrick Star Show, "When you do Spongebob, I see it as a Venn Diagram where you're overlapping with him. I also see Spongebob intertwining with Hillenburg (the series creator)."

Kenny then took the chance to reflect on Stephen Hillenburg's influence on the series, "I kind of see that with Patrick and you too now that you mention it. So much of Spongebob's DNA is Steve and then there's a little bit of mustard that we can slap on the characters, what we bring to it. We just trust what's on the page and be them. The roadmap is so good and so clear, it's like Waze telling you where to go."

If you're looking for more from the Krusty Krab in our world, The 2024 Kids' Choice Awards, hosted by SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) live from Bikini Bottom, will air Saturday, July 13, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon. Fans in the U.S. can now cast their votes across 33 categories on the official Kids' Choice Awards website: KidsChoiceAwards.com.

Chucky Star Jennifer Tilly Joining the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/chucky-star-jennifer-tilly-joining-the-real-housewives-of-beverly-hills/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 19:03:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 90c47921-ceec-4e8c-a5c5-5458f2836606

Jennifer Tilly, the Oscar-nominated star of Chucky, is set to join the cast of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Joking that the show is scarier than her horror movie experiences, Tilly revealed in a recent interview that she will board season 14 as a new cast member -- not a housewife herself but a "friend of the Housewives" -- akin to a recurring guest star role on a traditional scripted TV show. That role gives her the ability to step away and film other things, while also giving the new season a shot in the arm, as Real Housewives of Beverly Hills's 13th season was a bit of a mess, with audiences turned off and some cast members bailing on the aging franchise.

Real Housewives of New York got a full-on reboot, but the other coast isn't going that far yet. Tilly, though, is apparently part of a plan to revive the show's fortunes.

"Oh my god. It's insane," Tilly told the It Happed in Hollywood podcast. "It's, like, scarier than Chucky. I'll tell you that."

"I'm not a housewife. I'm a friend, though, which is a lot easier," Tilly added. "You just dip in and out. You try to avoid, like, flying shrapnel and you know? If drinks are thrown, I have good reflexes."

CinemaBlend notes that Tilly has already appeared in a handful of episodes, showing up to support her real-life friend and cast member Sutton Stracke. Stracke had a medical emergency and was removed from the reunion at the end of season 13, before a planned conversation with departing cast member Kathy Hilton, who will apparently be back this season...also as a friend, not a full time cast member.

Tilly joined the Child's Play franchise with 1998's Bride of Chucky, and has been a fixture in the franchise ever since, disappearing for the reboot and first season of Chucky, but returning to reprise her role as Tiffany in the second season. An "unplanned pregnancy" between Chucky and Tiffany was teed up at the end of Bride of Chucky, leading directly to 2005's Seed of Chucky and much later to the second season of the Chucky TV series, in which Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Lachlan Watson provided the voices for their kids, Glen and Glenda.

Both Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and the first three seasons of Chucky are available to stream on Peacock. There's no word yet on whether Chucky will be back for a season four.

Euphoria Season 3 Finally Set to Start Production in January With Main Cast Returning https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/euphoria-season-3-production-start-2025/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 18:16:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame d5c072cf-f8ca-4a3d-aedb-ad2ba3f2970b

HBO announced today that Euphoria, the acclaimed show that has been on ice since February 2022, is set to return to productio in January. In all likelihood, that means the controversial series will return to our screens sometime in 2025, bringing its production schedule roughly into line with a rumored time jump that will happen at the start of the third season. That delay might also help quell some controversy, as parents groups lashed out after seeing its depiction of teen drug use in the second season. Originally, the season was supposed to start filming in June of 2023, but it was delayed as a result of the dual writers' and actors' strikes last year.

Due to the long delay in production, cast members have been allowed to take other jobs, and HBO will have to schedule production around those schedules. That can be tricky, since actors like Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Eric Dane all have pretty busy schedules.

"I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on Euphoria in January," Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, told Deadline in a statement. "We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans."

Last year, D.A.R.E. criticized the series' depiction of teen drug use, but the cast and crew largely dismissed those attacks.

Zendaya said at the time, "Our show is in no way a moral tale to teach people how to live their life or what they should be doing. If anything, the feeling behind Euphoria, or whatever we have always been trying to do with it, is to hopefully help people feel a little bit less alone in their experience and their pain. And maybe feel like they're not the only one going through or dealing with what they're dealing with."

HBO has a synopsis for the series as new viewers get ready to take the plunge. "Euphoria follows a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media. The series is executive produced by Drake, along with manager Future the Prince. The ensemble cast includes: actor and singer Zendaya, Maude Apatow (Girls), Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, Algee Smith and Sydney Sweeney (Sharp Objects)."

No word yet on exactly when Euphoria will return to the air.

Star Wars: The Acolyte's Leslye Headland Explains Kelnacca's Big Episode 7 Scene https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolytes-leslye-headland-explains-kelnaccas-big-episode-7-scene/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 17:56:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 283064b6-cfac-4473-a9bd-fb2b7dc351cc

Star Wars: The Acolyte is currently seven episodes deep on Disney+, and it's the first time fans have seen a Wookiee Jedi in live-action. Joonas Suotamo, who took over the role of Chewbacca from Peter Mayhew, played Kelnacca in The Acolyte, but the character met an early end in the show's fourth episode. However, the most recent episode, "Choice," was another flashback, and featured a big moment for Kelnacca. The Wookiee was mind-controlled by the witches on Brendok and forced to fight his fellow Jedi.

Joonas Suotamo Explains Kelnacca:

THE ACOLYTE
(Photo:

Jedi Master Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo) in Star Wars: The Acolyte.

- Lucasfilm Ltd.)

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Suotamo broke down Kelnacca's character traits and explained how he played him differently from Chewbacca.

"Kelnacca is a very proud Jedi," Suotamo shared with EW. "He's obviously completed his Jedi training, but I thought he always felt as a bit of an outsider because, obviously, he's not human-born. So that caused me to think that he's a bit of a lone wolf sort of thing. So he's with the others, but he's also mindful that he might not a hundred percent belong with the other Jedi in that way."

"It's in how you carry yourself, your posture, how you move, and all these choices of this physical acting," he added of the difference between playing Chewbacca and Kelnacca. "And it was actually Rian Johnson when we were filming The Last Jedi, he recommended that I watch the silent masters of cinema - Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton - so that I could learn more about how to show what my character is thinking and what he's doing. And I've tried to do that.

So whenever we get the page, I try to choose 'How would Kelnacca go about doing what he's doing?' And comparing to Chewbacca, he's very trained, he's in control of his own desires, and he's very talented in doing these things that only Jedi can do. He was sort of like a samurai master, but also being of imposing size, that sort of led me to believe that he's like the Mufasa of Star Wars- that he's walking there and a very, very imposing figure for the others."

Stay tuned for more from the roundtable interview ComicBook attended with Leslye Headland. The season finale of Star Wars: The Acolyte drops on Disney+ on July 16th.

Marvel's Agatha All Along Star Says Series Is Surprisingly Scary https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvels-agatha-all-along-star-says-series-is-surprisingly-scary/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 15:11:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 9d64f0d9-f77c-4321-aab5-a0697be1686f

It's been a long road and a number of title changes, but this Halloween, Agatha All Along will finally debut on Disney+. The series, a direct sequel to WandaVision, stars Kathryn Hahn in the role of Agatha Harnkess. Picking up where she left off, Agatha has lost most of her magical mojo, but she's still smart and determined to get back on top. The series was promoted with the signature humor that Agatha brought to most of her scenes in WandaVision, but of course she was still a pretty serious threat in that show -- and according to co-star Sasheer Zamata, this will be a little more Werewolf By Night and less Married...With Children than people might expect.

Speaking with ComicBook in support of Apple TV+'s new Exploding Kittens show, Zamata said that it's "quite scary" and that she thinks it will shock the audience.

"I, and I think the fans, will be surprised at how much horror is in the show," Zamata told ComicBook. "It really is quite scary and dramatic and violent and all the things. And also funny! But I think the range of what the show is going to do will be a shock for people."

In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches' Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they're missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road...

In addition to Kathryn Hahn, Agatha All Along stars Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, with Debra Jo Rupp, with Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza. The executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos and Jac Schaeffer.

Directors for the series include Jac Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg (Gen V), and Gandja Montiero (The Walking Dead: Dead City). The series boasts a strong lineup, which is important since they are clearly still dipping in and out of different styles of filmmaking at least at the start of the season.

Marvel Television's Agatha All Along will premiere September 18 at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET, with the first two episodes on Disney+, then debut one episode per week thereafter.

Apple TV+'s Exploding Kittens premieres later this month.

The Boys Season 4 Episode 7 Recap (Spoilers) https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-boys-season-4-episode-7-recap-spoilers-a-train-deep/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 09:14:00 +0000 Kofi Outlaw 8a75373c-2dd0-4bae-92e3-d615ffdd2350

The Boys Season 4 has taken a long, wandering path through its storyline, but we're getting down to the final run of episodes that will take us into the final season of the series.

With Episode 7, "The Insider" there have been emotional if not life-or-death stakes raised for virtually every character on the show, and as the penultimate episode of the season, it was only natural that it would all begin to collide. And in the world of The Boys, any collision is sure to leave a violent, bloody, impact.

The Boys Season 4 Episode 7 "The Insider" Recap

Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) in "The Boys)

- Prime Video)

A Vought Christmas - We open with a cheery throwback Christmas Special on a TV screen, sponsored by the "Vought Kids" brand. The scene opens with Ryan Butcher (Cameron Crovetti) sitting in a bare-bones lodge setting, with a puppet version of A-Train sitting in the chair next to him. The pair are discussing how America is plagued by a type of citizen who hates superheroes, the American way, and even the word Christmas. Puppet A-Train begins to sing a song about how kids should "See something, say something," even if it's your principal or parents. Ryan looks uncomfortable and stops the show, talking with the director (Tim Beresford) about whether or not they should be instructing children to report their parents. The director assures Ryan that Homelander personally approved the lyrics, and Ryan concedes before taking a break.

[Title Logo is Shown over an image of the A-Train puppet slumped over in its chair, lifeless]

Didn't Get The Memo - Sister Sage (Susan Heyward) walks into The Seven meeting room to find Ashley (Colby Minifie) giving a briefing to Homelander (Antony Starr) and Firecracker (Valorie Curry). Sage comments that she thought the meeting was scheduled for 11:00 am, but Firecracker informs her that "they moved it up." Ashley is trying to explain NFTs to Homelander, but he makes her leave. Homelander turns on Sage about who at Vought is leaking intel to The Boys. Sage starts to demur but Homelander reveals a bug from Tek Knight's mansion that The Boys planted, exposing Homelander and Victoria Neuman's plot to create a supe-controlled America. Sage defends her position saying she knows the moves The Boys will make and they won't expose the recordings - but that Homelander shouldn't slaughter them since Butcher is dying anyway and The Boys have the CIA backing them. Homelander is concerned that Sage's intellect will fail them again, like when Mother Milk shot her in the head at Knight's mansion. Homelander and Firecracker declare that they will find the leak, while Sage is preparing a "shooter" to carry out the next phase of their larger plan to destabilize the nation. Outside the meeting room, the real leak, A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) is listening closely to the threat headed his way.

Squid Games - The Deep (Chace Crawford) is reading to his Octopus lover Ambrosius (Tilda Swinton) in bed. Ambrosius is turned on by Deep's reading, and also by the lovemaking they did earlier. Deep is interrupted by a text from Sage, asking him to lobotomize and sodomize her again. Deep dumps Ambrosius in the tank in his closet, firing off a barrage of excuses about when he's going to honor her request to move into the tank above his bed. He promises tomorrow, before running out the door.

Gotta Make Moves - Annie (Erin Moriarity) calls her mom and tries to convince her to head for a safe destination with relatives, lest she be targeted by the extremists that Firecracker is stirring up against Starlight. Annie's mom goes off on the fact that Annie had an abortion, and how much it embarrasses her. Annie defends herself, saying that she's a human who went through something and none of the Starlight persona or brand symbolism matters above that. Her mom throws it in her face that if Starlight is so meaningless now, why did Hughie save her costume? Annie is shocked to learn that, but Hughie confirms it by showing her the suit. Annie is understandably pissed, but Hughie says he did in case she ever changed her mind - before he bags it up and tosses it aside. Annie and Hughie discuss their abortion and Annie talks about the world needing to be fixed before she has a kid - but where to start? Hughie says one step at a time. Meanwhile, Sage is seen arguing with a raggedy-looking man in the street, while A-Train films her from nearby before speeding off and delivering the footage to The Boys. Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso) takes the footage and targets Sage's contact; Butcher returns to The Boys HQ with his phantom demon Joe (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) over his shoulder. Butcher confesses to taking Dr. Sameer Shah (Omid Abtahi) hostage, even though Joe is ordering him not to. The Boys naturally respond to Butcher amputating and kidnapping Sameer like he's a total psycho. Butcher goes on to add the small caveat that Sameer's virus can become a pandemic that wipes out all supes, pleading that even he is not that psycho. Butcher says they need help to create a form of the virus that's more targeted, and to do that they need an expert - so he had Mallory and the CIA spring Frenchie (Tomer Capone) from jail. Frenchie makes it clear he doesn't want to leave his self-imposed incarceration, and it gets weird between him and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). M.M. splits the team in two: Frenchie's half working on the virus, while the other half does surveillance on the man Sage was meeting.

Family Matters - Ryan walks into his apartment in Vought Tower to find a bunch of Christmas presents under the tree. Ryan notices one present in drab, paper bag wrapping and opens it to find a picture of himself, Butcher, and his mom together and happy. The picture stirs something in Ryan. At The Boys HQ M.M. splits off from Butcher, Hughie, and Annie, re-anointing Butcher as leader, after M.M.'s panic attack/fainting episode. Joe smiles at the change in fortune. M.M. goes to meet his ex-wife Monique (Frances Turner) and leaves her with all the necessary preparations for them to get safely out of the line of fire. Monique unexpectedly kisses M.M. after hearing his passion for protecting them and asks him to come with them. M.M. can't break rank, but Monique begs him to take the panic attack as a warning and meet her and their daughter Janine at the airport, later. In Vought Tower, Ashley is crying over losing her best BDSM buddy Cameron Coleman when A-Train barges in. Ashley doesn't want to hear any of A-Train's traitor troubles, as she's traumatized by getting Cameron killed to cover for A-Train as the leak. Ashley is getting erratic, firing her assistant as a means of 'saving' him from Vought, getting drunk in the middle of the day, and ranting. She begs A-Train to consider running away, but he commands her to pull it together.

Joe (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) & Butcher (Karl Urban) in "The Boys"

- Prime Video)

Operation: Sage Snitch - Butcher and The Boys arrive at the apartment building of the man Sage was seen talking to, with A-Train watching on from an alleyway. Joe starts laying into Butcher about when and how he developed empathy for supes - possibly while screwing Queen Maeve. Joe calls out that Butcher doesn't really care about Starlight or Kimiko, and Ryan isn't his - nor did Butcher ever truly respect Becca like a saint when she was alive. Joe threatens to truly step in and take control, but Butcher is unbothered by the threat and heads into the apartment complex. Inside the apartment, The Boys discover the man had intel on Secret Service deployments and plans for the January 6th attack. As they are looking over the plans they hear a loud noise coming from a back room and find a bloody woman trapped in closet. She claims to have been abducted and tortured for days, but then she suddenly attacks, slashing Hughie's hand open with a knife. The woman runs away and The Boys give pursuit; as the attacker is running she bumps into an elderly cleaning lady; while running down the stairwell, the attacker pulls off her entire skin to reveal she's shape-shifted into the elderly cleaning lady underneath. The attacker reaches the street and vanishes into the crowd of civilians; The Boys realize that Sage has hired a shape-shifting assassin to target President-elect Robert Singer on January 6th. Hughie has to go for medical treatment, while The Boys all head back inside to search the assassin's apartment.

Be Brave - A-Train runs up on M.M., who is packing his bags to leave. A-Train confronts M.M. about running away, sharing the story about how he saw pride in the eyes of a kid when he dropped M.M. off at the emergency room during his panic attack. M.M. counters with the story of how his father and grandfather died battling supes, and he's dying from it too. M.M. is resolved to save his family, but A-Train makes him consider that Homelander's plan for Vought is a worldwide takeover, leaving nowhere safe to run to. Meanwhile, poor Dr. Sameer is still maimed and disheveled, chained up in the safehouse where Butcher dumped him. Kimiko and Frenchie enter, with Frenchie bringing the doctor much-needed food. Sameer once again tries to explain that the safehouse can't be a lab that produces the virus Butcher wants; Frenchie counters by saying his whole life has been cooking up things in basement labs using dumpster-dive parts, and that the end goal is mutual: killing Homelander. Frenchie gives Sameer musical inspiration in the form of Crazy Town's "Butterfly" (RIP), and gives the doctor a silent promise that they will not wipe out Victoria Neuman (his wife) as well. Meanwhile, Firecracker takes Homelander to confront Webweaver (Dan Mousseau) who is being detained by Vought, and webbing all over himself with anxiety. Webweaver confesses to helping The Boys infiltrate Tek Knight's party by giving them his suit as a disguise. When Homelander wants to know more about the leaked intel, Webweaver gets confused and starts trying to backtrack - only for Homelander to tear him in half. Homelander thanks Firecracker, who is traumatized by the reality of how psychotic he truly is.

Dark Pasts - Frenchie offers Kimiko food as an olive branch, and they have it out about why he surrendered himself to the police and wouldn't let her visit. Kimiko chastises Frenchie for always being a brooding loner, and that she pieced together what he had done to Colin's family, and the kind of violent life he lived, in general. Frenchie tells her she can't understand what guilt he's feeling; Kimiko drops a big reveal of her own, about how she was inducted into the Shining Light group as a little girl by killing another little girl in forced combat, with the rule that whoever made the first sound during the fight lost and would be killed. Kimiko killed her opponent without uttering a sound. By the time her captors allowed her to speak again, she could not. Kimiko confesses that she killed many other little girls while held by Shining Light, and sees herself as the same kind of monster that Frenchie is. Frenchie tries to alleviate her guilt but realizes he must also forgive himself - but also realizes neither of them knows how to. Frenchie looks at Sameer and pledges that they set him free when the mission to make the virus is done. Kimiko says Butcher won't like it, but Frenchie says that's what makes it the right thing to do.

Domestic Dispute - Deep comes back to his apartment and is immediately confronted by Ambrosius when he won't feed her a favorite snack of some fish he's friends with. Ambrosius reveals that she's known about Deep's affair with Sister Sage, as her tentacles can sense the other woman on him, and that she's willing to fight for her lover. The Deep goes off, reciting Sage's propaganda about him being a superior being, but Ambrosius tries to make him see that Sage is using him. Deep loses it and smashes Ambrosius's tank, spilling her out into the closet where she begins to suffocate. Deep shuts the closet door and sits against it, Ambrosius takes a ridiculously long time to die, finally whispering that she loves him. Deep is.... deeply shaken by the act, to the point that he doesn't even hear the speech Homelander is giving him the next day. Deep responds to Homelander by effusing that he'll kill anyone and anything that Homelander wants him to. Homelander is confused but accepts the enthusiasm.

Black Noir II breaks character in "The Boys"

- Prime Video)

Talk It Out? - Victoria Neuman is packing up for a move to the White House when she gets an unexpected visit from Hughie. Hughie tries to appeal to Neuman's humanity, informing her about Homelander's true plan to open internment camps and crush America under his boot. Neuman can't be swayed but tells Hughie she's sorry about his dad dying. Back at The Boys HQ, Butcher and Annie are ambushed by The Deep and Black Noir II (Nathan Mitchell). Deep makes a big speech about Homelander being done with the games, and his own need for masculine bro justice, before the fight breaks out. Butcher takes on Noir with a shotgun while Annie fights The Deep, but they both get beaten down. Butcher calls on Joe to tap into his secret superpower that killed Ezekiel again, with no luck; Deep is about to skull-crush Annie when A-Train bursts in and hits Deep, revealing himself as the leak (which causes Noir II to break character and talk). A-Train tells Deep how much he's always hated him before they go at it; M.M. comes in behind A-Train and uses Butcher's minigun against a flying Noir II. Noir gets blown out the window, while A-Train and Annie put a beatdown on Deep. Butcher wants to finish Deep, but M.M. points out that they don't know how to, and that both supes will soon recover while The Boys won't survive round 2 of fighting. The squad makes a hasty getaway. A-Train speeds over to Ashley's apartment, and tries to take her up on the offer to make a run for it, but Ashley can't leave her gilded prison. She reminds him to cut out his tracking chip before making a run for it.

Need A Drink - Annie, M.M., and Butcher hide out in a bar having drinks. Butcher challenges M.M. on whether he's staying in the fight or running away - and M.M. leaves to make the call. Annie presses Butcher about who Joe is and why he was yelling about Ezekiel, but Butcher dodges the question and gets a save when a Starlight fan corners Annie for a selfie. M.M. calls Monique and says he's not running away with her - even though it's his dream. He needs to protect his family by ending the threat of Homelander. M.M. hangs up before Monique can talk him out of it. Meanwhile, in Vought Tower Homelander can only hear the high-pitched sound of his own psychosis as he learns A-Train was the traitor. Homelander is genuinely hurt by the betrayal; Firecracker consoles him, claiming some people are just "born uppity." Sage enters, upset that Homelander sent assassins after Butcher despite her saying it was pointless; she's confronted with A-Train being the leak and confesses she knew. Firecracker is mad that Sage let Webweaver die needlessly but Sage doesn't even know about that and finds it idiotic that anyone would think that junkie was a spy. Sage confesses that she was using A-Train to keep The Boys occupied and distracted with misinformation but that Homelander ruined that play. Homelander doesn't buy it and banishes Sage back to her civilian life. He also makes Firecracker leave - despite her offer of more breast milk games. Out in the hallway, Deep and Noir are bruised and battered and having a 'bro to bro' conversation using just the word "bro." When they see Sage come storming past, Deep tries to hit on her, causing Sage to confess that she's been fired by Homelander. Noir II has an unexpected emotional outburst, professing his love for Sage and calling what they have special. Deep is shocked and asks if Noir is also getting used for a lobotomy/sodomy booty-call combo, but Noir has no idea about that freakiness. BRO...

Viral Outbreak - Sameer calls Kimiko and Frenchie over to see the results of his work, claiming that Frenchie's ideas made the difference. When Kimiko and Frenchie approach, Sameer reveals that he's broken out of his handcuffs and stabs Kimiko with a syringe. Sameer hobbles away, while Frenchie must grab a tourniquet and saw and sever Kimiko's leg before the virus can infect and kill her whole body. The Boys get Kimiko's severed leg (with the virus sample) on ice and hold court. They know the virus won't take out Homelander but see Neuman as a possible viable target. M.M. rallies the troops with a speech about how they are used to doing so much with so little - and they won't let the president get taken out. Butcher nods in approval of M.M.'s leadership.

Family. Holidays. Amirite? - Ryan finally gets a response from Homelander telling him to suck it up and do the puppet show. He complies, as Butcher (and Joe) watch the Vought Christmas Special from a bar, and Homelander watches from Vought Tower. Ryan suddenly stops the show and prevents Ashley from cutting to commercials. Ryan gives a speech to the world about how turning on your family isn't the way, and how he loved his mom, who loved Christmas and loved spending it with him and Butcher. Ryan starts to say he has a truth to tell but stops short of confessing, only saying he's sorry and running off the stage. Butcher turns to Joe and says Ryan's moment of standing up is why he hasn't lost faith in the kid - or all supes. Butcher gloats until he suddenly passes out on the floor, with bystanders running over to help, while Joe smiles.

Annie (Erin Moriarty) & Hughie (Jack Quaid) in "The Boys"

- Prime Video)

Yankee Swap! - Hughie is at home with Annie and confesses to trying to see Victoria Neuman instead of going to Urgent Care. Annie surprises him by entering the bedroom in her Starlight costume, confessing he was right to have her re-embrace her identity. Hughie gets the reward of having Annie make love to him in the Starlight costume. However, when Hughie is good and passed out, "Annie" gets up from the bed and breaks into the safe to steal all the intel Hughie and The Boys have on Neuman, Sage, Homelander, and the insurrection plot, revealing herself to be the shapeshifter assassin Sage hired. The real Annie wakes up chained up in some shack, with a flashback revealing that the Starlight fan taking selfies in the bar was the shapeshifter, who knocked Annie out in the bathroom and took her place. Annie finds she can't break her restraints and hears a door creaking open...

Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Gets Major Update https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/ginny-georgia-season-3-update-nathan-mitchell/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 04:58:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson d9ee4c40-c333-47f3-bc4c-88c9874222bd

For two seasons, Ginny & Georgia has ruled the Netflix charts and the public conversation, with its soapy developments being something that fans needed to see to believe. The dramedy was already renewed for two more seasons in early 2023 -- and we finally have some details about how those new episodes are coming together. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Ginny & Georgia's Nathan Mitchell teased that Season 3 of the series is "bonkers", and that we might have to wait a little bit longer for the show to begin production on Season 4.

"I wish I could tell you, I don't know what I'm allowed to say," Mitchell revealed. "What I can say is season 3 is going to be bonkers! I have some great tea that I'm not allowed to spill. But they're going to get whiplash from how much their heads are turning back and forth from surprise It's a great season that G&G has in store for everyone, and I can't wait for them to see it."

"We're going to take some time [after season 3]," Mitchell, who also plays Black Noir on Prime Video's The Boys, added. "Luckily, I think The Boys is going to start filming soon, but we will have wrapped up [Ginny & Georgia] season 3 by the time [we start The Boys season 5]. Then we'll take some time, and then next year, we'll get into it."

What Is Ginny & Georgia About?

Ginny & Georgia follows Ginny Miller, a fifteen-year-old who is more mature than her thirty-year-old mother, Georgia, in the fictional New England town of Wellsbury where Georgia decides to settle down with her daughter Ginny and son Austin to give them a better life than she had. The series stars Brianne Howey, Antonio Gentry, Diesel La Torraca, Jennifer Robertson, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Scott Porter, Raymond Ablack, Katie Douglas, and Chelsea Clark.

"You know what's great? Netflix was really -- I don't want to say hands off -- they were really trusting of us with the story this season," creator Sarah Lampert explained in a 2023 interview with Deadline. "Which was wonderful because we got to explore different modes, like episode eight and nine and the Tarantino-esque format of that, doing weird things, and the whole plot of Season 2. My favorite thing about the show is that it is always evolving and changing, and because we touch on so many different tones within the show, we really get to sink into whichever tone we want to at the moment. So there's a lot of freedom there. I love surprising people, so I hope that that cliffhanger at the end of Episode 10 Season 2 was a big surprise, that's what we were going for. That being said, no, there's been no talks with Netflix about Season 3. They're very regimented about how they do things. So there's very much a strategy in place where I think we'll drop it, and then we have to wait to see how it does and if we're going to see Season 3 but I certainly hope we do because it's going to be a wild ride."

The Boys Season 4 Just Had Its Most Devastating Death https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-boys-season-4-ambrosius-octopus-devastating-death/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 03:40:00 +0000 Spencer Perry f3e5306b-f5a5-491c-9cec-ad03b6541248

Spoilers follow for The Boys! Fans of The Boys are no stranger to seeing gruesome deaths happen on camera, with season 4 delivering some truly heinous stuff (some of it so bad it wasn't even on camera). In the latest episode of the series however, a devastating death has arrived in the form of an unexpected character that has met their end, as this week meant we had to say goodbye to Ambrosius the Octopus, the former lover of The Deep. As previously revealed, Ambrosius is voiced by Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton in The Boys, and unfortunately they've gone to that great aquarium in the sky.

A recurring theme in The Boys season 4 has been The Deep becoming ashamed of his relationship with Ambrosius (caused by the public reveal of their....physical nature by The Deep's ex-wife). Throughout the entire series The Deep has been something of a joke, which is exacerbated by the fact that he's being manipulated by everyone around him. In fact, Ambrosius is seemingly the only figure in his life that actually cares about him in any meaningful way. When Ambrosius confronts Deep about his affair with Sister Sage, pointing out that she (like Homelander) is only using him, this sparks The Deep's anger in a way that becomes deadly.

Chace Crawford (The Deep)

With both his fists The Deep smashes Ambrosius's tank inside his closet, then quickly running out of the room and holding the door closed. Ambrosius pleads for his help and begs for her life, gasping for air now that she has no water to breath. In her dying breath, Ambrosius tells The Deep that she loves him, cementing that she has been right this entire time and that The Deep never deserved her. Ambrosius's death is far and away the most devastating death in The Boys season 4, but one episode remains of the season so there's still time for someone else to take the top spot.

"I was shocked," The Deep actor Chace Crawford revealed to TVLine about Ambrosius's death. "I thought it was kind of cool, to be honest. His violence and his anger is spilling out into the real world and has real consequences for him. He's sort of breaking down and losing it that he actually did this thing."

In The Boys season 4, Karl Urban stars once again as Billy Butcher, leader of The Boys, which also includes Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell, Laz Alonso as M.M., Tomer Capone as Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro. Some of the "supes" featured in the series include Antony Starr as Homelander, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, and Chace Crawford as The Deep. Other stars of The Boys include Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett, CEO of Vought International, and Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman.

The world is on the brink.

Hollywood Black: Prime Video Releases Trailer For Docu-Series Featuring Ryan Coogler, Ava Duvernay, and More https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/hollywood-black-prime-video-trailer-ryan-coogler-ava-duvernay-w-kamau-bell/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 02:46:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 7262659c-43ba-4c62-8c36-08e2b4689fd7

Prime Video has released the official synopsis for Hollywood Black, a new, four-part docuseries chronicling the history of cinema through a Black perspective. Inspired by the book of the same name by historian Donald Bogle, the series features Ryan Coogler (Creed), Ava DuVernay (Selma), LaKeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You), Forest Whitaker (Ghost Dog), and more. According to publisher Running Press, Hollywood Black: The Stars, The Films, The Filmmakers is a history lesson that starts in the silent era and moves up through Marvel's (and Coogler's) game-changing Black Panther.

The trailer sets up the premise of the series with a simple question, which is then answered, half-answered, and iterated on by various different film luminaries: what is a Black film to you?

Per Running Press, "The story opens in the silent film era, when white actors in blackface often played black characters, but also saw the rise of independent African American filmmakers, including the remarkable Oscar Micheaux. It follows the changes in the film industry with the arrival of sound motion pictures and the Great Depression, when black performers such as Stepin Fetchit and Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson began finding a place in Hollywood. More often than not, they were saddled with rigidly stereotyped roles, but some gifted performers."

The photos and interviews featured in Bogle's book carry through to the TV series, in which they talk about Black filmmakers' struggles to be treated with dignity and recognized for their work.

Here's the official synopsis for the series: "Inspired by the book from historian Donald Bogle, Hollywood Black, directed by Justin Simien, chronicles the history of cinema, but from a radically Black perspective. By unearthing personal stories from actors, writers, directors, and producers who fought for their place on the page, behind the camera and on the screen, the series provides a critical reexamination of a quintessentially American story--in brilliant color."

Directed by Justin Simien, Hollywood Black stars Justin Simien, W. Kamau Bell, Steven Caple, Jr., Ryan Coogler, Ava DuVernay, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Issa Rae, LaKeith Stanfield, Gabrielle Union, Lena Waithe, Forest Whitaker, and more. The series is executive produced by Culture Machine's Justin Simien and Kyle Laursen; Significant Productions' Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi; RadicalMedia's Dave Sirulnick, Stacey Reiss, and Jon Kamen; Jeffrey Swartz; and Shayla Harris, who also serves as showrunner.

Hollywood Black debuts August 11, 2024 on MGM+

Grey's Anatomy: Ellen Pompeo Returning for Multiple Episodes in Season 21 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/greys-anatomy-ellen-pompeo-returning-for-multiple-episodes-in-season-21/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 02:03:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 5ab3b144-b218-4020-8b10-ee5052a8fbe8

Ellen Pompeo may not be a series regular on Grey's Anatomy anymore, but fans of the long-running ABC medical drama can expect to see quite a bit of her next season. According to EW, Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey on the series, is set to return for seven episodes in Season 21 while will debut this fall. Pompeo, who is also an executive producer on Grey's Anatomy, will also continue to serve as the series' narrator. Pompeo has played Meredith since the series' premiere in 2005.

While it is unclear if Pompeo's appearances in Season 21 will be consecutive or spread across the full season, fans of the series have some idea of what Meredith might be dealing with when the series returns. The Season 20 finale saw Meredith resign from the Fox Foundation after being given an ultimatum by Catherine Fox over her Alzheimer research project and, after her resignation, publishing her research publicly. Meredith's actions saw Catherine fire Amelia, Teddy, and Owen in retaliation.

Pompeo stepped back from her role as Meredith Grey during Season 19, which saw her appear for just eight episodes. Season 20 saw her appear in just four with the character having relocated to Boston. Last year, however, Pompeo said that her departure was "not a complete goodbye" and that she hoped to continue making appearances.

Grey's Anatomy Season 21 Will Have Some Cast Changes

When Grey's Anatomy returns for Season 21 this fall, it won't just see more appearances by Pompeo. Two fan-favorites are exiting the series. It was previously announced that Grey's Anatomy would lose two fan-favorite actors, Midori Francis and Jake Borelli. Francis, who plays Dr. Mika Yasuda, and Borelli, who plays Dr. Levi Schmitt, are both departing the series in Season 21 though both are expected to return briefly to wrap up their characters' stories. Francis first joined the Grey's Anatomy cast in Season 19 while Borelli first joined the cast in Season 14. ABC renewed Grey's Anatomy for Season 21 back in April.

"The loyalty and love of Grey's Anatomy fans has propelled us into a history making 21st season, and I could not be more grateful," series creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes said at the time. "Meg Marinis' storytelling is a gift that continues to keep the show vibrant, compelling and alive, and I can't wait to see what she has in store for next season."

Star Wars: The Acolyte Creator Leslye Headland Teases More Yord and Jecki https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-creator-leslye-headland-teases-more-yord-and-jecki/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 00:51:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak c57ff9c3-e355-4eb7-9bde-bd22182dbaf8

Star Wars: The Acolyte only has one episode left, and each week has brought more twists and turns. The biggest shocker came in the show's fifth episode, "Night," which saw Qimir (Manny Jacinto) being unmasked as the Stranger and killing both Yord and Jecki, the Jedis played by Charlie Barnett and Dafne Keen. Star Wars fans were pretty devastated about the deaths, especially after falling in love with Yord and Jecki. While they may dead in the present timeline, that doesn't mean we won't see them in some sort of prequel or in another format. In fact, the Jedi Wookiee Kelnacca (Joonas Suotamo) also died, and now he's getting a spinoff comic. ComicBook recently had the chance to join a press roundtable with The Acolyte creator, Leslye Headland, who was asked about the possible return of Yord and Jecki.

"Yeah, definitely," Headland replied when asked by Jedi News if Jecki and Yord had more to their backstories, and if we might see them in another format. "Pablo Hidalgo and I have talked about that, and since wrapping up the season, there's definitely some stuff that I would love to see come to fruition."

"Obviously, Vernestra already exists in publishing, so also going to do something there," she continued. "There was a lot of background done on them both by the actors in the writers' room. Yord Fandar, I've said this before, was a character in a campaign that I played, so there's a pretty large backstory to him. But yeah, it was always the plan to kill them in Episode 5 halfway through the season. So it was kind of fun to think about them a lot and then think, 'Well, because we didn't spend a lot of time with them, maybe there's a way we could keep playing around with them somehow.'"

Charlie Barnett and Dafne Keen React To Their Characters' Deaths:

While chatting with Entertainment Weekly, Barnett and Keen opened up about being killed in The Acolyte.

"No one ever wants to be cut out of a show," Barnett explained. "But when you're playing a character that you know is going to die, it's a little more fun. If it's a surprise to you and your job is gone next week, it sucks. But when you know what you're walking into, you get to have a little more control over it. And I tried to find the lemonade through the lemons."

"Me and Charlie were joking about that all the time," Keen added. "Whenever we were on set and anyone would be complaining, me and Charlie would be like, 'Peace out, we're dying in two weeks!' ... I had so much fun doing the death. It was a huge honor to get to be the person that took the helmet off him ... That was something really exciting to me."

Stay tuned for more from the roundtable interview ComicBook attended with Leslye Headland. The season finale of Star Wars: The Acolyte drops on Disney+ on July 16th.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Creator Breaks Down Mae and Osha's Power, Teases Darth Plagueis Connection https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-creator-breaks-down-mae-and-oshas-power-teases-darth-plagueis-connection/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 00:04:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 316ceda8-3140-4ce4-8e90-2516b127c110

The seventh episode of Star Wars: The Acolyte, "Choice," was released on Disney+ this week, and it featured some shocking reveals. Not only did fans finally learn the truth about what happened on Brendok 16 years ago, but more was revealed about Mae and Osha's (Amandla Stenberg) history. We learned in the third episode, "Destiny," that Mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith) created the twins using the Force, but turns out, there's more to their creation. Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) determined a vergence (a unique concentration of Force energy around a single location) was used to split one consciousness into two, meaning Mae and Osha are more than just twins. ComicBook recently had the chance to join a press roundtable with The Acolyte creator, Leslye Headland, who was asked about Mae and Osha's connection as well as their creation's potential connection to Darth Plagueis.

"I would say I would leave that up to future chapters of the story," Headland teased when Screen Rant asked if Osha and Mae could live without the other. "But what I can say is that I believe that because Aniseya utilized this power, which is I think all of Aniseya's power is very potent, but a lot of it is unknowable ... She knows the extent of what she's capable of, but not exactly sure when she experiments with it, what will happen."

"So for example, she's playing around with powers that could create life, that can create life, and instead of creating one life, it ended up being two lives," Headland continued. "So I think her intention, and one of the reasons the Coven is so obsessed with keeping the twins together, is that they believe that this very special miracle that was able to happen under their roof, it could be broken if the two of them are separated. Now in our story, they are separated and they're separated for a very long time."

"So it seems unlikely to me that if one of them came to harm, the other one would drop dead," Headland added. "But I do think that because their power and their essence has been split, they both feel incomplete without the other one. And whenever another person notices one of them as different, or their whole selves, the way that Sol responds to Osha, the way that the Stranger responds to Osha, I think that also means that while they're split, they are not solely dependent on each other as one half and one half, even though that's what their family of origin would say. And I think it's the way that the Jedi understand their creation to make sense."

Are Osha and Mae's Powers Tied to Plagueis?

the-acolyte-episode-2-mae-vs-osha.jpg
(Photo:

Amandla Stenberg as Mae in 'Star Wars: The Acolyte

- Lucasfilm)

Darth Plagueis is well-known in the Star Wars universe thanks to Palpatine's monologue about the character in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. In the film, Palpatine details "Darth Plagueis the Wise" and his ability to create life using midi-chlorians, and defeat death. During Headland's roundtable, she explains how Plagueis' quest for life-giving power ties into Osha and Mae's creation. In fact, she compares the situation to the real-life events depicted in Oppenheimer.

"Of course they do. I am surprised more people haven't asked me that question. I'm like, 'Obviously,'" Headland said when asked by Screen Rant if the twins' powers are connected to the powers of Darth Plagueis. "The Sith are looking for the atomic bomb, they're looking for 'What's the card that we can have over the Jedi? What is the Force power that the Jedi do not have?' And so, as far as the Sith are concerned, they're in an arms race and the Jedi don't even know that arms race is happening because the being that can get the power that Aniseya has started playing with will start the Manhattan Project."

Stay tuned for more from the roundtable interview ComicBook attended with Leslye Headland. The season finale of Star Wars: The Acolyte drops on Disney+ on July 16th.

The Penguin: DC Revives The Batman's Viral Website to Promote Spinoff Series https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-penguin-dc-the-batman-website-promote-spinoff-series/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 23:45:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson 77773b98-d76f-452c-893a-3118a18d78b9

We're just a few months away from the debut of The Penguin, a new live-action HBO series that hopes to recapture the magic of 2022's The Batman. The spinoff series has already teased its gritty world of crime across multiple teaser trailers -- and now, it is employing a familiar tactic. On Thursday, the "rataalada" website from The Batman was updated for the first time in years, offering a new puzzle just as it did in the lead-up to the movie's release.

The website shows a string of instant messages between anonymous criminals hoping to link up at The Iceberg Lounge, which is Penguin's base of operations in the comics. Completing the puzzle will grant fans access to reserve passes for The Penguin's pop-up activation event at this month's San Diego Comic-Con 2024.

What Is The Penguin About?

Plot details surrounding The Penguin remain under wraps, other than that it is being referred to as "the next chapter in The Batman saga from Matt Reeves."

The Penguin will star Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone, Rhenzy Feliz as Victor Aguilar, Michael Kelly as Johnny Viti, Shohreh Aghdashloo as Nadia Maroni, Deirdre O'Connell as Francis Cobb, Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni, James Madio as Milos Grapa, Scott Cohen as Luca Falcone, Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone, Carmen Ejogo as Eve Karlo, and Theo Rossi as Dr. Julian Rush.

When Will The Batman Part II Premiere?

The Batman Part II is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 2, 2026, thanks to delays caused by last year's Hollywood labor strikes. During a recent appearance at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024, Alfred Pennyworth actor Andy Serkis confirmed that we could see The Batman Part II begin production at some point in early 2025.

"Basically, I know nothing about the movie other than that I've just found out that we're probably likely to be starting filming early next year," Serkis explained (via PopVerse). "Therefore, if you do the math, it'll be a year and a half after that. I know that Matt [Reeves] is working really hard on the script. Matt Reeves being Matt Reeves, the extraordinary filmmaker that he is, I can only assume that it's going to be another brilliant script, because I thought what he did with that first film was pretty amazing. I loved working with Rob Pattinson, and I really look forward to playing Alfred once more."

The Penguin will premiere exclusively on HBO on September 19th.

STARZ Reveals First Look at Outlander Prequel Blood of My Blood https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/starz-reveals-first-look-at-outlander-prequel-blood-of-my-blood/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 23:36:00 +0000 Nicole Drum 41475272-f0cf-408e-9588-daed64e9c742

STARZ has released a first look at the upcoming Outlander prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood. On Thursday, the network released a series of images featuring stars Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield, and Jeremy Irvine, giving fans their first glimpse of the eagerly anticipated series' two main couples -- Ellen Mackenzie (Slater) and Brian Fraser (Roy), parents of Jamie and Julia Moriston (Corfeld) and Henry Beauchamp (Irvine), parents of Claire. Outlander: Blood of My Blood does not have a release date.

The photos, four in total, feature Ellen and Brian in the early18th-century Scottish Highlands dressed in traditional tartan and holding hands in one image and sharing an intimate moment in another. The images of Julia and Henry feature the couple in WWI-era England with one image showing them out together on a drive while the other shows them embracing. You can check them out below.

What is Outlander: Blood of My Blood About?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will tell the story of Jamie's father and mother (Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie) as well as Claire's parents (Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp). Per the official description, "The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie's parents in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands and Claire's parents in WWI England."

"Outlander: Blood of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story. It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain," Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner and executive producer, shared in a statement. "The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser's marriage vow to Claire and there will be several names and faces that Outlander fans will know and recognize. Jamie and Claire's TV story may be coming to an end with Season 8, but Diana is continuing on with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on book ten. With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there is still so much more to come in the Outlander universe, and we cannot wait to continue sharing these stories with our dedicated fans."

In addition to Slater, Roy, Corfield, and Irvine, Outlander: Blood of My Blood will also star Sam Retford, Rory Alexander, Tony Curran, Seamus McLean Ross, Conor MacNiel, Jhon Lumsden, Sara Vickers, Peter Mullan, Sally Messham, Terrence Rae, Sadhbh Malin, Ailsa Davidson, Annabelle Dowler, and Harry Eaton.

Cobra Kai Creators Open Up About Bringing the Show to an End https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/cobra-kai-final-season-show-ending-creators-interview-karate-kid/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 23:30:00 +0000 Charlie Ridgely 6c489dd8-9fef-48d1-95da-3c8eccb3193c

The saga of Cobra Kai is about to come to an end. Netflix's hit series, which is a continuation of the Karate Kid film franchise, will conclude with its upcoming sixth season. The first five episodes of that season arrive on Netflix on July 18th, followed by another five later in the year and the final five in 2025. Ahead of the premiere of Season 6, ComicBook caught up with Cobra Kai creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg to ask about bringing the beloved series to a close.

"Unlike every other season, we're not building toward a bunch of storylines that are going to remain in flux and remain unresolved, and try to come up with the season's cliffhanger and where do we want to turn up the heat," Heald told us. "There's a lot of that along the way in Season 6, obviously, because it's split up in three parts.

"But one of the most enjoyable things was thinking about the endgame that we've had in our heads from the beginning. For the characters that we had in Episode 1, and then having acquired all of these other characters that we love and that have become so important to this universe along the way, making sure that their endgames all make sense, all dovetail with each other, all coexist in different and explosive ways. That was probably the most fun part of putting together the final season, making sure that we're delivering upon the promise of everything we've set up from the first five seasons and land it all in satisfying and some unexpected ways."

TV shows all evolve as they go on, and Cobra Kai is no exception. New characters and storylines have come into play over the course of the series, changing certain plot points, but the journey for the main characters stayed virtually the same the entire way through. According to the EP trio, folks like Johnny and Daniel will end up right where they were planned to when Cobra Kai began.

"For our main characters, you know the Johnny and Daniels of the world who we've known since 1984, the ending is very similar to what we were thinking about before we even had a writer's room way back on Season 1," Hurwitz explained. "It was the kinds of things that we talked about in the long game. We always hoped that people would react to the show the way that they did and we'd have the opportunity to tell a six or seven season-long story. We're just grateful that we had the opportunity to land it the way that we envisioned. So in terms of those characters, there's tweaks within it, but the kinds of scenes that we have in some of those final episodes are very similar to things that we've been thinking about for a very long time.

Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1 arrives on July 18th.

The Boys Season 4 Premieres to Over 1 Billion Minutes Streamed https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-boys-season-4-premieres-to-over-1-billion-minutes-streamed/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 22:00:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 198a1f38-a495-428c-8342-56d9468bd8c4

The fourth season of The Boys is currently in full swing on Prime Video with the penultimate episode dropping today and the finale expected to release on July 18th. While the new season has been met with mixed reactions, the show's audience isn't slowing down. In fact, it was revealed by Nielsen (via The Wrap) that 1.19 billion minutes of The Boys were viewed during the week of June 10th to June 16th. The season's first three episodes, "Department of Dirty Tricks," Life Among the Septics," and "We'll Keep the Red Flag Flying Here" were all released on June 13th.

The Boys' fourth season's debut exceeded Season 3's viewership by 21% in its first four days online with the new season reaching number one on Prime Video in 160 countries. The show was also the third-most watched streaming show that week, falling only behind Netflix's Bridgerton and Your Honor. Bridgerton released four episodes on June 13th with viewing numbers of 3.47 billion viewing minutes during that week.

What Is The Boys Season 4 About?

Homelander (Antony Starr) gets a milky surprise in "The Boys" S4E6

- Prime Video)

"In our minds, it's only a couple of days after whatever the events are of Gen V," showrunner Eric Kripke recently told Variety when asked about the events of The Boys Season 4. "We try to keep the timeline super simple because all that folding-in-on-itself timeline stuff that I think other comic book universes find themselves having to do is just bewildering for me as a viewer. So it's all very modular. It's like there's Season 3 of The Boys, and then after that Gen V takes place, and then after that The Boys Season 4 takes place. And then after that, Gen V Season 2 takes place. It's all more like cars on a train than it is a plate of spaghetti."

The Boys Season 4 is now streaming on Prime Video.

Apple TV+ Bringing Silo Season 2 to San Diego Comic-Con https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/silo-season-2-panel-presentation-apple-tv-plus-san-diego-comic-con/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 21:26:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh 028003c2-ab30-435d-afc7-8a265d2da9bb

The first season of Apple TV+'s Silo became a major hit with critics, and in the year since that series premiered, even more fans have discovered it, making its upcoming Season 2 one of the more anticipated sci-fi events on the horizon. Fans headed to San Diego Comic-Con later this month are in luck, as Apple TV+ confirmed that they'll be bringing the series to the event, along with its cast and crew. While the streamer didn't fully outline what fans could expect from the panel, we won't be surprised if we get to see an official trailer for the new season, or possibly more clips from Season 2. The Silo panel will be held on Saturday, July 27th.

Per press release, "Apple TV+ today announced that Silo, its globally acclaimed and hit world-building drama based on Hugh Howey's New York Times bestselling trilogy, will make its San Diego Comic-Con debut on Saturday July 27th for a panel and conversation around what fans can look forward to in the highly anticipated second season of Silo featuring star and executive producer Rebecca Ferguson, star Common, creator and showrunner Graham Yost and executive producer Hugh Howey, plus surprise special guests. The panel will be moderated by Adam Savage (Editor-in-Chief, Tested.com)."

Silo is the story of the last ten thousand people on earth, their mile-deep home protecting them from the toxic and deadly world outside. However, no one knows when or why the silo was built and any who try to find out face fatal consequences. Ferguson stars as Juliette, an engineer, who seeks answers about a loved one's murder and tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don't kill you, the truth will.

While the series was renewed for a Season 2 before Season had finished airing, star Ferguson shared the promising update earlier this year that she's hoping to move forward on not just Season 3, but also a Season 4.

"I believe that the show has an ending, and I know when that is," Ferguson revealed to Collider this past April. "So, that's the answer. You will find out when the show is done. To be honest, I don't think it's a secret. The books are the books. It's three books, and the three books are divided into four seasons. So, I believe, unless any Apple person is gonna jump on, I think we're absolutely fine with saying Season 1, we've done. Season 2 is shot and coming out, and we're now looking at green-lighting Seasons 3 and 4. And I think we would film them maybe together, and that would be the end."

Stay tuned for updates on Season 2 of Silo. The Silo panel will be held at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 27th.

Star Wars: The Acolyte Creator Explains Indara and Sol's Shocking Choices https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/star-wars-the-acolyte-creator-explains-indara-and-sols-shocking-choices/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 20:36:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak fa274845-dc7c-494a-adc7-5ba46fda553a

The penultimate episode of Star Wars: The Acolyte, "Choice," was released on Disney+ this week and it finally revealed the truth of what happened on Brendok when Mae and Osha (Amandla Stenberg) were young. Warning: Spoilers for The Acolyte Episode 7 ahead... During their time on the witches' planet, Sol's (Lee Jung-jae) concerns for the twins clouded his judgment and his refusal to listen to Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) led to a showdown with Mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith). Aniseya turned into a cloud of black smoke, and Sol mistook the action for an attack, killing Aniseya in front of Mae. When the dust settled, Indara chose not to tell the Jedi Council the truth of what happened despite her previous instance of keeping them in the loop. Earlier today, ComicBook had the chance to join a press roundtable with The Acolyte creator, Leslye Headland, who spoke about Indara and Sol's choices in the episode.

"I think it should be left up to interpretation," Headland said when Jedi News asked why Indara chose to cover up what happened on Brendok. "My personal opinion is that she sees this entire situation as a terrible, terrible tragedy and Sol's insistence that he turn himself in at the expense of the one survivor of this. She believes it to be an incredibly selfish act ... If this has all been for anything, let's have it be for this little girl to grow up having achieved what she wanted to achieve, which I think is an incredibly passionate thing for a Jedi to decide even if it's misguided."

"Again, I think it's really up to interpretation," she added when asked about Sol. "I can say, my personal opinion, which is that I think that it's just super messy. Each of the Jedi have their own blind spot in this episode, and Sol's is definitely an emotional, spiritual blind spot. He just feels like, 'This is my padawan, I'm Qui-Gon, this is my Anakin, this is the warrior I am meant to train.' And so, the paternal protectivism gets kicked in."

"And that's a thing that, obviously is in media especially, is usually coded as something very, very good. But I think that can also be a dangerous thing," Headland continued. "It's not always coming out of what's best for the child or the object of that protected. And it could be coming out of his own preconceived notions or his inflated sense of self as well, thinking, 'I am the person who can help this child live up to their potential. I'm the person that can save this child from potential danger.' So I think it's a little bit of both. It comes from a very good place and it's very natural, but at the same time, it's not automatically good just because you feel it."

Can Master Sol Be Redeemed?

Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) in Episode 7 of "The Acolyte"

- Lucasfilm)

During the roundtable attended by ComicBook, Headland was asked by Screen Rant if Sol can be redeemed for what he did on Brendok.

"I mean, I think it's in the hands of the person harmed," Headland explained. "That's truly what it is. Does Vader deserve redemption? Luke thinks so, and we saw what Anakin did, but Luke believes that. So I think it's in Osha's hands ... To me, it's between the two of them. It's not an easy moral question for the audience to answer."

Stay tuned for more from the roundtable interview ComicBook attended with Leslye Headland. The season finale of Star Wars: The Acolyte drops on Disney+ on July 16th.

Creature Commandos: New Look at DC Studios Animated Series Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/creature-commandos-new-look-at-dc-studios-animated-series-released/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 20:01:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 90a8935f-bf33-4c09-9239-8dd130ef9dc0

A new piece of art from Creature Commandos, the DC Universe's flagship animated series, has been released ahead of Comic Con International in San Diego next week. The image serves as the cover to a Comic Con-exclusive edition of Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #1, which you can pick up at the show. Similar covers reveal the DC Universe's new Superman movie logo and a Silver Age throwback cover for Absolute Power #1. The Frankenstein issue will also include the first appearance of the Creature Commandos in Weird War Tales #93.

The Creature Commandos series will center on a team led by Rick Flag's father, and including Nina Mazursky, Dr. Phosphorus, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, and Weasel. It seems as though this will give background as to how Weasel came to be in the possession of Amanda Waller at the start of The Suicide Squad (although exactly how much of The Suicide Squad is canon is still not clear). You can see the new art below.

creature-commandos.jpg

"Creature Commandos is based on the great team from DC," Gunn explained. "What we're doing with the DCU is, we are having animation tied directly into live action. Television, movies, and games all intertwine within the same universe. We're going to cast actors that are going to be able to play the characters in this as well as in other things, some of which we've already cast. I've written all seven episodes of the show, and it's in production. So that's the first thing, and I love it."

As a team, the concept of the Creature Commandos might seem like it goes way back, but not as far as you might think. The team was created by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick, and first appeared in 1980's Weird War Tales #93. They have only appeared in a few different iterations, but since 2011's Flashpoint, have appeared in a few different big crossover stories and even had a batch of animated shorts on Cartoon Network's DC Nation block in 2014.

Creature Commandos stars Sean Gunn as Weasel, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot, and Steve Agee (Peacemaker) reprising his role as John Economos.

The Boys Season 4 Brought Back Its Best Character And You Definitely Missed It https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-boys-season-4-brought-back-best-character-terror-the-dog/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 19:37:00 +0000 Spencer Perry 85a2d859-d370-4e0a-a5f5-1f25c6df7cbb

Minor spoilers follow for The Boys season 4! The penultimate episode of The Boys season 4 has put the show's characters in unique positions. Not only is Ryan fully questioning his dad Homelander thanks to Butcher, but Annie January/Starlight has been replaced by a shapeshifter ahead of the Presidential inauguration. But while all these major plot machinations were taking place, The Boys also brought back its best character in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo. When Ryan finds a present on the set of his Vought Christmas special that he quickly realizes is from Butcher, he opens it to find a framed photo of Butcher and Rebecca together. It's a tender moment, one that reminds Ryan of who he is and how he was originally raised, but most importantly it brings back Terror the bulldog to The Boys.

It's been two full seasons of The Boys since we last saw Terror the Dog and for fans of The Boys comics, and fans of good boys in general, this is entirely too long. The last time we saw Terror he was staying with Butcher's Aunt Judy, and was given a somber goodbye from Butcher as she would seemingly continue to watch him for the foreseeable future; we can only assume that is still the case.

Butcher and Terror in The Boys season 4``

- Prime Video)

Terror was a staple of The Boys comic books, but frankly The Boys TV series was never in a position to make him a cornerstone of its cast. As series creator Eric Kripke told EW back in 2019, the reason Terror wasn't a big part of the show was a "boring and practical one," mostly just the challenge of having an animal on set and always accounting for it in any given scene. The series eventually brought Terror in, but as Kripke revealed to EW after season 2, "shooting it was every bit the clusterf--k I thought it would be."

"We got that dog based on its ability to hump on command and if you notice in the episode not once does it do it because it wouldn't, of course, because it's a dog and dogs don't take direction," the showrunner revealed. "Terror is a star but a really inconsiderate diva. I just saw the endless amount of frustrated dailies, hours and hours of footage of the dog just sitting there and people trying to cajole it to do something that he doesn't want to do."

Thank you Eric for giving us what we wanted, even if it was just a stationary dog in a photo that was probably photoshopped.

The Boys has already confirmed it will return for season 5, its final season, so the hope for the return of Terror will no doubt live on.

Stranger Things' Winona Ryder Had One Condition for Joining the Netflix Series https://comicbook.com/horror/news/stranger-things-winona-ryder-casting-reaction-beetlejuice-sequel-schedule/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 19:31:00 +0000 Patrick Cavanaugh dbc7bb7e-f270-466e-a834-da262d3ab04c

Actor Winona Ryder was a staple of a number of classic genre films, including Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, and Beetlejuice, but she was introduced to an entirely fresh generation of audiences when she joined Stranger Things. Despite not being entirely aware of what "streaming" meant, Ryder recently recalled how she maintained true to her earliest collaborators, noting that she only agreed to take on the role of Joyce Byers in the Netflix series if creators Matt and Ross Duffer would grant her time away from the project if Tim Burton ever decided to move forward with a Beetlejuice sequel. While it took nearly a decade after that agreement for that sequel to actually happen, the Duffers honored that deal ahead of filming the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.

"At the time, Tim and I were talking about the Beetlejuice sequel," Ryder shared with Harper's Bazaar. "There have been moments over the last 15 years that we thought it was gonna happen but, again, that's a thing that it had to be perfect with everybody in order for it to happen. But I remember, in my first meeting with the Duffer brothers, I said, 'As long as, if Beetlejuice 2 happens, you let me go do that,' and they agreed. Luckily, it worked out. That was my one condition."

When Stranger Things was released, Ryder was easily the most famous name attached to the project, with the merits of the storytelling itself ultimately being what launched the project's popularity into becoming one of the biggest TV shows of the past decade. Ryder understandably couldn't have predicted the project would be such a hit, especially given that she signed on after only reading the first episode.

"She is a character that I'm literally on my tenth year playing her. Absolute first for me, to play a character for that long," the actor confessed. "It was a huge -- to say yes to one episode, they only gave me the pilot episode. I didn't, at the time, know what streaming was. It was terrifying in that regard."

Having starred in projects like Bram Stoker's Dracula, Little Women, and Alien: Resurrection, Ryder is no stranger to taking on high-profile roles in beloved projects, but the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will mark the first time she's reviving a character she helped create.

Stay tuned for updates on the final season of Stranger Things. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice lands in theaters on September 6th.

Martin Prequel Series In the Works With Martin Lawrence https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/martin-prequel-series-martin-lawrence/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 19:21:00 +0000 Timothy Adams b9899125-4006-472a-81c6-fe81cf2a4e1c

Martin Lawrence is revisiting his hit comedy series Martin. The multi-talented comedian and actor is fresh off his record-setting Bad Boys: Ride or Die but is already plotting the next project for his production company, RunTelDat. Deadline reports Martin Lawrence is developing a prequel series to Martin, aptly titled Young Martin. Similar to Bel-Air, Young Martin will be an hour-long drama that centers on Martin Payne, the radio host that Lawrence portrayed on Martin. The show will focus on Martin Payne transitioning from a teenager into adulthood. RunTelDat will produce in collaboration with Marvin Peart's WonderHill Studios.

"Out of all the hit shows during the 90's, there was only one Martin -- a show that defined culture and positivity. Martin reflected a real group of friends from our community that wound up on TV screens all over the world," WonderHill CEO Marvin Peart said. "I respected and revered Martin Lawrence for creating Martin Payne and what he did for African Americans on television in front and behind the camera. In many ways, he influenced my path in the entertainment industry and it's an honor to partner with Martin and his younger self and share him with the next generation of fans."

What is Young Martin about?

The description of Young Martin reads, "Set in modern-day Detroit, Young Martin follows Martin Payne, a spirited teenager whose journey is characterized by ambition, humor, and a genuine compassion for those around him. The show will explore themes of family, friendship and life while the young Payne balances on the tightrope between adolescence and adulthood. Martin's quick wit and magnetic personality draw him into high-stakes situations, where he must confront obstacles, emotions, and ultimately, find his path to success.

Will the success of Bad Boys: Ride or Die lead to Bad Boys 5?

Bad Boys stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence revealed the conditions for the Bad Boys 4 sequel to actually happen.

"Well, these younger actors are going to need to do more of the stunts, that's for sure," Smith told EW.

On a more serious note, Smith expressed that the Bad Boys franchise has grown into an entire universe of characters, with its own mythos and history. So long as the creative team finds good stories to tell in that world, they'll keep doing it, but sequels for sequels' sake aren't enough:

"It is a world and characters that are just an absolute joy to be with. In a movie theater with Mike and Marcus, it just feels like home," Smith said. "So, as long as there's a reason - I never wanted to be one of those dudes who make sequels just because people will go. I want to make them because there is something to say and the characters have a place that they're developing to that will be interesting and fun to watch and maybe even a little helpful."

Martin Lawrence was in perfect agreement with his co-star, saying, "We'll have to see," about Bad Boys 5. "You know I never say never, but it also has to make sense. If the fans ask for it, you know we could be back... We always have so much fun making these movies... Will and I have a great time working together, so as long as the fans want it and the demand is there, I'll keep trying to give them what they want."

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has also gone on the record to state that Bad Boys 5 is being discussed.

"We've had discussions but we want to see how this one did at the box office, and I'm sure we'll have conversations this week," Bruckheimer told Deadline. "It happens, I can't give you a specific date," the producer added when asked about his history with box office highs and lows. "I know we've had dips for certain pictures that were sure winners that didn't happen and something else sneaks in there and becomes a huge hit. The audience is there, you just gotta give them something that they want to see. And we don't know what that is, but we do our best efforts."

Marvel To Reveal X-Men '97 Season 2, Spider-Man, Black Panther Animated Series First Looks at D23 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvel-x-men-97-season-2-spider-man-black-panther-d23-animated-series-first-looks/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 19:06:00 +0000 Aaron Perine bd3a372b-76c4-405a-b1bb-3d906949772a

Marvel is rolling out new looks at X-Men '97, Spider-Man and more animated favorites at D23. Marvel Television broke down what shows are making the trek to Anaheim this year. The "Ultimate Disney Fan Event" will play host to Eyes of Wakanda, What If...? Season 3 and even more surprises. People were expecting news about X-Men '97 Season 2 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, so it's nice to see those two titles getting some shine. One would have to expect Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum will be in the house for some of these announcements and seeing the sneak previews.

"We are thrilled for fans of all ages to join us in Anaheim next month for what will truly be the ultimate Disney fan experience," Michael Vargo, head of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club said in a statement. "This year, D23 has been reimagined to showcase even more of what they love from across the worlds of Disney. Guests will enjoy the incredible programming and show floor offerings we have in store at the Anaheim Convention Center, where our exceptional storytelling and experiences will come to life through spectacular entertainment with many of the creative masterminds behind the magic."

Black Panther's new show is a biggie.

For MCU obsessives, you're going to want to keep a close eye on Eyes of Wakanda. The Black Panther animated series is more closely related to the movies than any of the other shows mentioned here. Brad Winderbaum stopped by The Official Marvel Podcast to talk about a bunch of what Marvel Television has coming. So, the future is bright for what the studio has planned for the small screen.

"Eyes of Wakanda, more than any other show we're doing in animation, ties directly into the MCU," Winderbaum explained of the Black Panther spinoff. "This is a story about Wakandan history. It's produced by Ryan Coogler and directed by Todd Harris who is one of our longtime storyboard artists who I first met when he designed the Hulk vs. Thor fight in Ragnarok."

"It's an awesome show. The action is insane and the storytelling is fantastic. It's both about the history of Wakanda, but also expands into the greater MCU at different time periods," the executive added. "If you're a fan of the movies, I think this show is going to be a real treat."

The Penguin Panel, New Trailer Set for San Diego Comic-Con 2024 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/dc-the-penguin-hbo-the-batman-san-diego-comic-con-2024/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 18:00:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 55bc61f1-c7e7-4734-a639-0e26b678b34e

Welcome to the wonderful world of Oz. Before Colin Farrell's Oz Cobb attempts to seize Gotham City's underworld in The Penguin, the HBO-branded next chapter in The Batman saga from filmmaker Matt Reeves, the DC series is taking over San Diego Comic-Con 2024. Streamer Max announced today that the eight-episode DC drama is bringing a star-studded cast panel, immersive fan experiences, and a new trailer to the San Diego-based confab, which runs July 25th--28th.

"We are incredibly excited to tap into the rich and passionate fanbase in San Diego this year by introducing them to our new series, The Penguin," said Pia Barlow, Executive Vice President, Originals Marketing, HBO and Max. "With our in-world activations, fans will have the chance to engross themselves in the underground world of Oz Cobbs's Gotham, picking up where we left off in Matt Reeves' The Batman, as we look to generate excitement for the series premiering this September."

Farrell will virtually join fellow cast members and in-person panelists Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), Matt Reeves (executive producer), Lauren LeFranc (showrunner and executive producer), and Dylan Clark (executive producer) for a revealing Hall H panel moderated by MTV host Josh Horowitz and an official trailer premiere.

Warner Bros. Discovery is set to turn the Gaslamp Quarter into Gotham City with a recreation of Gotham's Iceberg Lounge as seen in 2022's The Batman movie, and a Gotham Ice truck in front of the San Diego Convention Center.

San Diego Comic-Con 2024: The Penguin Panel Schedule and Details

  • On Friday, July 26th and Saturday, July 27th, Max, in partnership with Giant Spoon, will transform the Bloom Nightclub into Gotham's famed Iceberg Lounge. Upon arrival at "The Iceberg Lounge" Experience, guests will enter the "Iceberg Descent," created in partnership with BUCK and VT Pro Design, an immersive experience filled with special effects, haptic technology, interactivity and exclusive content displayed on Samsung big screen TVs. This multi-sensorial, subterranean descent drops users into Gotham's notorious Iceberg Lounge lobby to navigate through the wreckage left by The Riddler at the end of The Batman (2022) film to reach the party deeper within.
  • Fans will party with Oz's crew by venturing through the dark corners of the club for a chance to be inducted into the Penguin's inner circle... if they dare. This multi-room experience offers complimentary drinks, live DJ sets, exclusive giveaways including a Jefferson's Bourbon tasting, and photo opportunities including Oz's iconic purple Maserati -- giving partygoers an unprecedented glimpse into Gotham's criminal underworld. By exploring the main club, guests can discover a password that will give them access to the inner sanctum, 44 Below, the club within the club, diving deeper into the world of The Penguin.
  • Max is providing 21+ adult fans with three ways to get a chance to receive an invitation to "The Iceberg Lounge" from today through Saturday, July 27:

1. Fans can now register on 1iota.com for an exclusive invitation to Gotham's hottest nightclub, available on a first-come, first-served basis.

SpongeBob SquarePants Stars Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke on the Endurance of SpongeBob & Patrick https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/spongebob-squarepants-stars-tom-kenny-bill-fagerbakke-spongebob-patrick-kids-choice-awards-interview/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 17:02:00 +0000 Evan Valentine a39faab0-df3c-43a8-8bd8-13c40e453353

Spongebob and Patrick have been best friends for twenty-five years, as Spongebob Squarepants remains arguably the biggest series running on Nickelodeon. So popular did the franchise become, that even Patrick got a spin-off series in The Patrick Star Show. Later this year, a feature-length animated film will arrive on Netflix focusing on Sandy Cheeks, as the streaming service also has a movie featuring the villainous Plankton front and center. We here at ComicBook recently had the chance to chat with Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke, the voices of Spongebob and Patrick, and discussed the longevity of the animated friends.

To start the interview, Kenny discussed the comedic pairing of Spongebob and Patrick, noting that the Bikini Bottom residents were aspiring to be synonymous with the likes of Laurel and Hardy, "The secret to the endurance of the characters is who they are as characters and how they interact with one another as characters. Individually, Spongebob and Patrick are cool but when you put them together, then you get a comedy team happening in the classic sense like Laurel and Hardy. That's what we aspired to emulate anyway."

Spongebob x Patrick: Bikini Bottom's Best Buds

Bill Fagerbakke added to the series that highlights the friendship between the Krusty Krab fry cook and the unemployed starfish, "The blueprint and idea for the show that Stephen Hillenburg laid out for years as a marine biologist and lover of animation and an animator, how that happened. Then he cast these people like Clancy Brown, Mary Jo Catlett, Roger Bumpus, Carolyn Lawrence, and Mr. Lawrence. It just all happened and we got lucky."

While Spongebob Squarepants has run for decades, the cast doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon. Earlier this year, Kenny and Fagerbakke provided commentary for the Super Bowl and are planning to be a part of a special panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

The 2024 Kids' Choice Awards, hosted by SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) live from Bikini Bottom, will air Saturday, July 13, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon. Fans in the U.S. can now cast their votes across 33 categories on the official Kids' Choice Awards website: KidsChoiceAwards.com.
