The 2024 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards are currently in full swing, and young fans have already seen some of their favorites take home the iconic orange blimps. A few famous faces popped in during the ceremony to promote their highly-anticipated projects, including the cast of Transformers One. Chris Hemsworth, Keegan-Michael Key, and Brian Tyree Henry came together to share a clip from the first fully-animated Transformers movie in nearly 40 years. The movie recently got a standing ovation at the Annecy Film Festival and fans are excited to learn more at the movie's upcoming San Diego Comic-Con panel.

"Hello, Kids' Choice Awards," Hemsworth begins. "Greetings from the cast of Transformers One," Key adds. "Before we roll out our never-before-seen look at the movie," Henry chimed in. "We wanna give a special shoutout to the greatest yellow superhero of all time," Hemsworth continues. Key and Henry assume Hemsworth is going to say Bumblebee, but the Marvel star ends up saying Nickelodeon icon, Spongebob Squarepants. You can check out their intro followed by the Transformers One clip below:

What Is Transformers One About?

Set on Cybertron, Transformers One is the untold origin story of a young Optimus Prime and Megatron. Before they transformed into sworn enemies as the leaders of warring robot factions -- the Autobots and Decepticons -- they were brothers-in-arms Orion Pax (Hemsworth) and D-16 (Henry), who changed the fate of their planet forever. While working waste management in the bowels of Cybertron, Orion and D-16 meet workers B-127 (Key), a.k.a. Bumblebee, and Ariel (Scarlett Johansson), a.k.a. Elita-1, before embarking on a dangerous journey to the planet's surface world.

The star-studded voice cast includes Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as Sentinel Prime, Steve Buscemi (Transformers: The Last Knight) in an undisclosed villain role, and Laurence Fisburne (The Matrix) as Alpha Trion -- sworn protector of Vector Sigma, the mega-computer at the heart of Cybertron -- who unlocks the Transformers' full potential, giving the 'bots the ability to transform. The new movie comes from Paramount Animation (The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run), Hasbro Entertainment (Transformers: EarthSpark), and New Republic Pictures (The Tiger's Apprentice).

"We did our take on the origin, which is still staying true to the lore of Transformers," director Josh Cooley told ComicBook of the first-ever CG-animated Transformers movie, adding that Optimus Prime's origin story is "something we've never seen before on screen." "I wouldn't say that this is a direct prequel to anything that's been done with live-action ones," the director added. "But it's definitely its own story as well."

Transformers One opens only in theaters on September 20th.

Dragon Ball Cosplay Gets Creepy With Realistic Super Buu https://comicbook.com/anime/news/dragon-ball-super-buu-realistic-cosplay-anime/ Sun, 14 Jul 2024 00:38:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 0f732493-21e6-4376-93bd-f4f23b2e2445

Dragon Ball has introduced some of the wildest villains through its run over the decades, and now Super Buu has come to life with a viral cosplay imagining a realistic spin! Dragon Ball is now in the midst of celebrating the manga's 40th anniversary of hitting the pages of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, and it's hard to deny that the late series creator Akira Toriyama had gone on to craft some of the biggest heroes and villains through the series' tenure. Some of these villains were more frightening than others, and that's especially true for Majin Buu.

Buu took on a whole new level of danger when he became Super Buu, and the monstrous evil took over and went on to form the final saga for the original run of the series overall. Now Super Buu's come to life in a rather horrifying way through a viral cosplay from artist buureal on Instagram, who has brought the villain to our world with a realistic accuracy. Check it out in action below:

What's Next for Dragon Ball?

Dragon Ball is coming back in a big way later this year with Dragon Ball Daima, a brand new anime series currently set to release some time later this Fall to help celebrate the franchise's 40th anniversary. It has yet to confirm a concrete release date as of the time of this publication, but the late Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama helped to craft the original main story and character designs for Dragon Ball Daima. Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki are directing the series for Toei Animation, Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru is adapting Toriyama's designs for animation, and Yuuko Kakihara is supervising and writing the scripts.

Masako Nozawa is returning to the anime to once again provide the voice for Kid Goku, and she is currently the only confirmed member of Dragon Ball Daima's voice cast announced so far. Akira Toriyama previously teased the original story for Dragon Ball Daima as such before his passing, "Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they'll head off to a new world! It's a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Power Pole to fight, something not seen in a long time."

Look Back Creator Tatsuki Fujimoto Reacts to New Movie https://comicbook.com/anime/news/look-back-creator-tatsuki-fujimoto-review/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 23:59:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 49d9739c-8613-462a-ae3e-20a42ff33088

Look Back is now working its way through the theaters in Japan, and the creator behind it all has shared their first review for the new movie! Tatsuki Fujimoto took a break from the newest chapters of Chainsaw Man to share a few new one-shots telling all kinds of new stories. The first of these one-shots, Look Back, ended up being such a hit with Shueisha that now it's gotten a full anime feature film debut. While the film has yet to reveal a release date for territories outside of Japan, Fujimoto himself finally shared his thoughts about seeing it in motion.

"There is an expression like 'the characters come to life,' and it is so true, I felt as if I was watching the world in which Fujino and Kyomoto were living through the camera," Fujimoto stated (as translated @Chainsawpedia on X) The drawings and voice actors' performances were so natural and wonderful that I felt as if I watching the world in which Fujino and Kyomoto live."

How to Watch Look Back

"I cried because I thought that I would never be able to have my work made with such sincerity again in my life," Fujimoto's statement continued. "There were so many surprises and discoveries in the 58 minutes and that it is impossible to pick one by one and praise them all. A lot people were involved and it turned out really great, so I want to thank all of them. Thank you so much!"

Featuring an original story from Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, Look Back's original one-shot story first debuted with Shueisha in 2021, and is now licensed for an English language release by Viz Media. You can find the physical release on shelves, and the digital release with the Shonen Jump app or Shueisha's MangaPlus service. The feature film adaptation is written, directed, and with character designs provided by Kiyotaka Oshiyama for Studio Durian but does currently no have a release date for the United States as of the time of this publication.

Music for Look Back is composed by Haruka Nakamura, who also performs the theme song for the film, "Light song" together with singer urara. Yumi Kawai and Mizuki Yoshida are headlining the cast as the two main leads, Fujino and Kyomoto respectively. With a run time of one hour and two minutes, Avex Pictures teases what to expect from Look Back as such:

"Fujino, a fourth-grade student, serializes a four-panel manga in the school newspaper. Her classmates praise her work, but one day, her teacher tells her that they want to publish a four-panel manga by Kyomoto, a classmate who doesn't attend school. The connection between the two girls is their earnest passion for manga. However, one day, an event shatters everything... A gripping and breathtaking coming-of-age story begins."

Solar Opposites Season 5 Poster Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/solar-opposites-season-5-release-date-hulu-poster/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 23:27:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 7feea459-cc93-45b4-8027-b0497dc66a8f

Solar Opposites is finally coming back for Season 5 of the animated series later this Summer, and Hulu has shared a new poster to help celebrate! Solar Opposites made some big changes ahead of Season 4 following Hulu cutting ties with former co-creator and voice of Korvo, Justin Roiland, and the season itself followed through even further with some bigger changes to the actual status quo. It's made the wait for the new episodes even tougher as fans wait to see how many of those changes from the Season 4 cliffhanger actually stick. Thankfully, the wait won't be for too much longer.

It's been fairly quiet as for what fans can expect to see from the next season of Solar Opposites, and Season 5 thankfully will be making its return to Hulu beginning on August 12th. To help celebrate the upcoming premiere of the new episodes, Solar Opposites has confirmed its release date with a special poster for the season featuring the core members of its makeshift family. You can check out the first look at Solar Opposites Season 5 below.

What to Know Solar Opposites

Solar Opposites Season 5 will be making its debut on August 12th with Hulu, but has yet to confirm how many episodes it will be sticking around for. Dan Stevens took over from Justin Roiland as the voice of Korvo for Solar Opposites Season 4, and will be returning for Season 5 of the series along with Thomas Middleditch as Terry, Sean Giambrone as Yumyulack, and Mary Mack as Jesse all returning for their respective roles.

As for what went down in the newest season of the series, Hulu teases Solar Opposites Season 4 as such, "On season four of Solar Opposites, we pack up the sci-fi and get normal... for a second. Then it's back to classic Solar chaos, mayhem in the Wall, and some all new Silvercops adventures!" You can also check out the first three seasons and holiday specials with Hulu as well.

Solar Opposites producer Sydney Ryan spoke to ComicBook about getting Dan Stevens as the new voice of Korvo, "We didn't want to match the previous voice and felt like it would come across like we were doing a cover song," Ryan stated. "Solar is a show where wild stuff can happen, and since the aliens already have ray guns that can do all sorts of things, we thought it would be funny to use this in-show method to explain the voice change. Even with a big shift, we still wanted to preserve the humor and emotional aspects that we've built for Korvo over the years. We worked with our casting team, listened to a ton of auditions, and met with some incredible actors."

One-Punch Man Artist Shares Special Naruto Tribute https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-punch-man-yusuke-murata-naruto-tribute/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 22:58:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 2c657f9b-c678-4bbf-8eff-d13a974a37e7

Yusuke Murata, artist behind series such as One-Punch Man, Eyeshield 21 and more, has shared some special new art paying tribute to Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto! Murata might currently be more celebrated with his work on series such as One-Punch Man, but the artist already made waves with Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine many years ago with Eyeshield 21. Teaming up with Riichiro Inagaki (who is now better known for creating Dr. Stone), the two went on to craft an American football manga series that went on for a lengthy run and anime adaptation at the peak of its success.

Eyeshield 21 ran with Weekly Shonen Jump magazine back in 2002, and this year it's actually celebrating its 21st anniversary. Launching with a special artbook in Japan, it's been revealed that a lot of the art comes from Murata himself as he pays tribute to many of the other major Shonen hits and creators who are wishing Eyeshield 21 a well anniversary. The latest sketch highlights his take on Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto, and you can check out Murata's take on the famous ninja below.

Where to Find Eyeshield 21

Originally written by Riichiro Inagaki (who went on to create Dr. Stone) with art from Yusuke Murata (the artist behind One-Punch Man), Eyeshield 21 is a little tough to check out the manga's run. There are physical volumes of the manga currently available on shelves as licensed by Viz Media, but there's currently no way to legally catch up with it online. Thankfully, you can still check out Eyeshield 21's anime adaptation now streaming with Crunchyroll.

The first volume of the Eyeshield 21 manga is teased as such, "What does a wimpy kid who's been bullied all his life have to depend on but his own two feet? Sena Kobayakawa is about to start his first year in high school and he's vowed not to get picked on anymore. Unfortunately, the sadistic captain of the football team already has his eye on Sena and his lightning-fast speed."

As for One-Punch Man, Season 3 of the anime is now in the works, but has yet to announce a release window or date as of the time of this publication for the new episodes. J.C. Staff will be returning from Season 2 to handle the animation production with Chikashi Kubota returning to design the characters together with Shinjiro Kuroda and Ryosuka Shirakawa, Tomohiro Suzuki will be handling series composition, and Makoto Miyazaki will be composing the music.

Rent-a-Girlfriend has announced that the anime is coming back for Season 4 some time in 2025! Rent-a-Girlfriend has been maintaining its strong grip on the romantic comedy anime scene over the last few years with the first three seasons, and now it's confirmed that the TV anime will be returning for a fourth. Rent-a-Girlfriend brought the third season of the series to an end last Summer, but unfortunately like the first two, it did not confirm whether or not there would be a continuation. That means fans have been held in a limbo in the months since.

Thankfully the wait for an update has ended as Rent-a-Girlfriend has officially announced that Season 4 of the TV anime is now in production for a release in 2025. While there are currently no concrete details about its release date, or potential returning staff or cast, Rent-a-Girlfriend is celebrating this announcement with the first teaser trailer hyping up what's to come. You can check it out in the video above teasing Rent-a-Girlfriend's Hawaii Trip arc coming in the new season, and a special illustration from creator Reiji Miyamura celebrating the new season below.

How to Watch Rent-a-Girlfriend Anime

The Hawaii Trip arc features some of the most infamous moments from Rent-a-Girlfriend's manga (with one panel in particular becoming a meme for all the wrong reasons), so it's going to be interesting to see how the new TV season brings all of that to life. If you wanted to catch up with the anime in the meantime, you can currently check out the first three seasons of Rent-a-Girlfriend now streaming with Crunchyroll to get up to speed with it all.

"Kinoshita Kazuya is a 20-year-old failure of a college student. He managed to kiss his girlfriend once, but was dumped after a month. 'Ugh... Damn it. I never want to go through that again.' Completely spiteful, Kazuya uses a certain method to date a girl. He goes to their meeting place and suddenly hears, 'You're Kazuya-kun, right?' A beautiful girl brushing her long, black hair behind her ear was there, smiling at him. Her name was Mizuhara Chizuru. Something real is born after just a single rental! A reckless rom-com filled with love and excitement is about to begin!"

The Dragon Prince Season 6 Trailer Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/the-dragon-prince-season-6-trailer/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 20:57:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 77359579-7b64-4184-94bb-10d6d5ffe504

The Dragon Prince is now inching closer to its return to Netflix with new episodes, and the animated series has dropped a dark new trailer for Season 6! The Dragon Prince has been steadily working its way through the Mystery of Aaravos saga since the start of the fourth season, and fans might have noticed just how much more intense the series has gotten compared to the earlier seasons. With what we have seen from Season 6 thus far, it looks like this trend is going to continue in the coming episodes as the animated series gets closer than ever to its end.

The Dragon Prince Season 6 will be the second to the last of the seasons ordered by Netflix to tell the animated series' story, so that likely means it's going to be full of gamechanging moments to help set it all up before the climax. The Dragon Prince Season 6 has been sharing ominous looks at the new episodes leading to its premiere, and that's especially the case for the newest trailer that you can check out below.

What to Know for The Dragon Prince Season 6

The Dragon Prince Season 6 will be releasing on Netflix on July 26th, but has yet to reveal how many episodes it will be sticking around for. This serves as the second to last season of the animated series, so now is the perfect time to catch up with every season of the series released thus far now streaming with Netflix. As for what went down in the previous season, Wonderstorm teases The Dragon Prince Season 5 as such:

"The Netflix animated series THE DRAGON PRINCE returns for a nine-episode fifth season on July 27, 2023. In this exciting next chapter of the 'Mystery of Aaravos' arc, we rejoin our heroes after their narrow escape from the depths of Umber Tor. With the map to Aaravos' prison in hand, Claudia and Terry race against time to save Viren's life. Meanwhile, Callum, Rayla, Ezran, and Soren seek out new friends (and old) to help them prevent the return of the infamous Startouch Elf."

Speaking to the darker tone in The Dragon Prince Season 5, series co-creator Justin Richmond noted the evolution happening in the later seasons to ComicBook as such, "Yeah, since the beginning, we'd always said that these seasons get progressively more mature and some of that means that we go to darker places and this is the first flexing of those muscles in terms of putting it into the show. That doesn't mean that it's grimdark and Warhammer-esque, but trying to go to emotionally different places with the characters, I think, was important. That being said, we still have two more to go, so there are definitely highs and lows in this season, and I think the peaks and valleys will continue as we head towards Season 7 and what we have planned there."

SpongeBob SquarePants Stars Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke Speak Out on Playing Iconic Characters https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/spongebob-squarepants-stars-tom-kenny-bill-fagerbakke-interview-iconic-characters/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 20:23:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 294e408f-70fd-439e-b368-8fdfa102b1a9

Bill Fagerbakke and Tom Kenny have played the parts of Spongebob and Patrick on Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants for almost twenty-five years. In that time, the series has skyrocketed in popularity as it has garnered hundreds of television episodes, several feature-length films, and a handful of spin-off series. In a new interview with the legendary voice actor, Tom and Bill were able to dive deeper into their respective roles and whether or not they've approached the parts of Patrick and Spongebob any differently since they first began the parts. While Spongebob is about to turn twenty-five, many fans are hoping for twenty-five more years of Bikini Bottom.

Tom Kenny kicked off the interview by stating that he hasn't changed his approach to bringing to life the Krusty Krab fry cook, "I would say that my approach to the character hasn't changed because regardless of what the technology is, whether its motion capture at a live event or we're doing an episode or a video game or cel animation from the first season or computer animation like from the movies, our job is the same as it was in 1999. We just had to be them. Just to be Spongebob and be Patrick, to channel them."

Spongebob, Patrick, Bill, Tom, And Steve

Bill Fagerbakke added to Kenny's thoughts, as the voice actor continues to portray Patrick in both the main series and his spin-off, The Patrick Star Show, "When you do Spongebob, I see it as a Venn Diagram where you're overlapping with him. I also see Spongebob intertwining with Hillenburg (the series creator)."

Kenny then took the chance to reflect on Stephen Hillenburg's influence on the series, "I kind of see that with Patrick and you too now that you mention it. So much of Spongebob's DNA is Steve and then there's a little bit of mustard that we can slap on the characters, what we bring to it. We just trust what's on the page and be them. The roadmap is so good and so clear, it's like Waze telling you where to go."

If you're looking for more from the Krusty Krab in our world, The 2024 Kids' Choice Awards, hosted by SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) live from Bikini Bottom, will air Saturday, July 13, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon. Fans in the U.S. can now cast their votes across 33 categories on the official Kids' Choice Awards website: KidsChoiceAwards.com.

Cells At Work's Live-Action Movie Drops New Poster https://comicbook.com/anime/news/cells-at-works-live-action-movie-new-poster/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 18:47:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 93def19d-cd50-46d9-b149-a9b372db476f

Live-action anime adaptations are slowly becoming more of a hot ticket item in the entertainment industry. While many anime fans never believed that anyone would be able to successfully create a live-action One Piece, many have been proven wrong by Netflix. Warner Bros Japan has already been trying their hand at the live-action anime game with productions such as Rurouni Kenshi, Tokyo Revengers, and even JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable. In a major twist, the WB is looking to do the same with Cells At Work as a new poster highlights the live-action take on the journey of the White and Red Blood Cells.

Cells At Work has seen serious success in the anime world not just thanks to its main series but its many spin-offs that have been released over the years. Cells At Work: Code Black, Bacteria At Work, Cells That Don't Work, Cells At Work: White, and Cells At Work Baby don't cover the full gamut of the side stories for the popular anime series. While the main series did end its main series, it is continuing via its spin-offs.

Cells At Work Movie Poster

The Cells At Work live-action movie will hit Japanese theaters on December 13th this year. Unfortunately, there has been no word on when, or if, it will do the same in North America.

If you want a breakdown of the upcoming movie, here's how Warner Bros Japan describes the live-action adaptation, "The smallest protagonist in film history - a human cell! There are a staggering 37 trillion cells in the human body. Red blood cells that carry oxygen, white blood cells that fight bacteria, and countless other cells work tirelessly day and night to protect your health and life. High school student Niko (Mana Ashida) lives with her father, Shigeru (Sadao Abe)."

The description continues, "Because of Niko's diligent nature and her healthy lifestyle, the cells inside her body are always working joyfully. Meanwhile, inside Shigeru's body, the cells are always complaining, exhausted from the brutal working environment, as he leads an irregular and unhealthy life. On the outside they may look like a happy father and daughter, but on the inside their bodily environments couldn't be more different. As their lively days go on, pathogens start to sneak up on their bodies... The most epic battle in the history of human cells, with the future of Niko and Shigeru at stake, is about to begin!"

Delicious in Dungeon Cosplay Takes on Senshi's Strangest Fit https://comicbook.com/anime/news/delicious-in-dungeon-cosplay-senshi-best-anime-boy/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 18:28:00 +0000 Evan Valentine f62e6f96-4a58-4491-8e2b-f16a6fb97e0f

Of the many characters that make up Delicious in Dungeon, Senshi might just be one of the most important. When the dwarf first meets Laios and his fellow adventurers attempting to save Laios' sister, he is able to aid the dungeon crawlers by leaps and bounds. While the anime characters thought about eating the monsters they encountered in the dungeon to save on their supplies, only Senshi had put this into practice. During one particular adventure, Senshi goes through quite a change as he is transformed from a dwarf into an elf and one cosplay has captured the mind-bending change.

The dungeon that Laios and company would explore was unlike any dungeon that had been seen in any anime before. On top of struggling with countless monsters, there were also scenarios that are hard to contemplate, such as the one that changed Senshi into an elf. During one particularly strange adventure, Senshi wasn't the only one as everyone found themselves residing in new bodies.

Delicious in Dungeon: Senshi's Big Change

Luckily, while the first season by Studio TRIGGER might be over, the anime adaptation will continue. Quickly following the season finale, TRIGGER and Netflix confirmed that a second season was in the works. While not confirmed, the manga has already released its final chapter, meaning that the anime's second season could very well be its last.

If you have yet to check out the first season of Delicious in Dungeon's anime adaptation, the series is available to stream on Netflix. Here's how the streaming service describes the story of Laios and company, "When young adventurer Laios and his company are attacked and soundly thrashed by a dragon deep in a dungeon, the party loses all its money and provisions...and a member! They're eager to go back and save her, but there is just one problem: If they set out with no food or coin to speak of, they're sure to starve on the way! But Laios comes up with a brilliant idea: "Let's eat the monsters!" Slimes, basilisks, and even dragons...none are safe from the appetites of these dungeon-crawling gourmands!"

Look Back Shares New Images For Hit Anime Film https://comicbook.com/anime/news/look-back-anime-new-images/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 17:40:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 4730e131-4a26-4d09-bf6e-1d2983de96c2

Tatsuki Fujimoto might be best known for the brutal and mind-bending story of Denji in Chainsaw Man but the artist isn't just limited to telling stories about devils and chainsaws bursting from anime characters' faces. Look Back was initially released as a manga short story that followed young characters in a heart-warming and tragic tale that focuses on their creative endeavors to become artists themselves. While the movie has already hit theaters in Japan, the film has released some new images to give fans a closer look at Fujino and Kyomoto.

On top of Look Back, Fujimoto also cut his teeth on the short story, Goodbye, Eri. While this story just so happens to follow a creature of the night pretending to be a regular teenager, it remains a heart-warming story in the same vein as Look Back. At present, Fujimoto is continuing to create new chapters for Chainsaw Man that are throwing some major curveballs at manga readers. While a second season of the bloody anime adaptation has yet to be confirmed, Studio MAPPA has released a trailer for the first film of the franchise that will introduce the enigmatic character Reze to the series.

Look Back New Images

Unfortunately, the film has yet to confirm when, or if, it will hit North America though considering the popularity of anime in general, it seems like a safe bet that it will eventually hit the West. This however doesn't mean that we'll see it on the silver screen, especially considering that the runtime is less than ninety minutes.

If you never got the chance to check out Look Back, here's a description of the original manga created by mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto, "Fujino, a fourth-grade student, serializes a four-panel manga in the school newspaper.

Junji Ito Talks Sanrio/Tomie Crossover https://comicbook.com/anime/news/junji-ito-sanrio-hello-kitty-tomie-crossover-comments/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 17:02:00 +0000 Evan Valentine be00d46f-972b-4d4b-a492-269a17e92811

Anime fans have seen some wild crossovers featuring the cute and colorful characters of Sanrio. Franchises like Mobile Suit Gundam, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, and Jujutsu Kaisen are just a few of the anime series that have met Hello Kitty and her friends. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the wildest crossover to date would take place as Junji Ito's Tomie would be teaming up with the albino kitten in a surreal meeting. Now, Junji Ito himself has taken the opportunity to dissect the crossover and how his family was instrumental in having Ito's succubus meet with the world's most popular mascot.

In discussing the mind-bending crossover featuring Hello Kitty and Tomie, Ito shared his surprise that the meeting was even proposed, "When I was approached about collaborating with Sanrio's characters, I wonder why a horror mangaka should be involved, but my wife and daughter love Sanrio products. I jumped on the chance to do it, as I wanted to boost my 'father stock'. When I actually started drawing, I realized the cuteness of Hello Kitty and other characters comes from an exquisite design. I was impressed by the essence of the characters and learned a lot from it."

Tomie might not have the same level of popularity as the Sanrio mascot but she is arguably the most popular character created by Junji Ito. While the manga succubus has appeared in an anime format several times, she has also received several live-action films in Japan that ranged from spooky to silly, especially when it comes to movies like "Tomie Vs. Tomie".

Later this year, Adult Swim will be bringing one of Junji Ito's biggest horror stories to the small screen in Uzumaki. Here's how the Cartoon Network programming block describes the creepy anime adaptation, "Let's leave this town together,' asks Shuichi Saito, a former classmate of Kirie Goshima, a high school girl who was born and grew up in Kurouzu-cho. Everything from a strange whirlwind, billowing smoke from the crematorium, and the residents is turning into spirals. People's eyes spin in whirls, a tongue spirals, and the bodies twist unnaturally. In an attempt to escape the curse of the spirals, Kirie decides to flee from Kuouzu-cho, but can she get away from this turmoil?"

Attack on Titan Reveals New Trailer for Upcoming Amusement Park Ride https://comicbook.com/anime/news/attack-on-titan-amusement-park-ride-trailer-watch/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 16:36:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 758a812f-ce7b-4cb6-9951-b124b7986774

Attack on Titan might have ended both its manga and anime but the world won't soon forget the tragic story of the Scout Regiment. Recently, creator Hajime Isayama returned to the bleak universe to lay out a new look at the earlier years of Captain Levi via "Attack on Titan: Bad Boy". While Isayama hasn't revealed any plans to weave new stories in the manga format, the Titans are set to return in Taiwan as the creator of iRide have revealed a brand new trailer for an Attack on Titan event that will see riders soar the skies with the Survey Corps.

This attraction in Taipei won't be the first time that Attack on Titan has created an attraction, as Universal Studios Japan has featured the bleak anime franchise more than once in the past. Aside from creating "4-D rides" that would put park visitors into the shoes of the Scout Regiment soldiers, Universal Studios also recreated several Titans and environments from the anime franchise. Unfortunately, the Universal Studios parks in North America have yet to confirm that they will bring the Titans to the West in the future.

Attack on Titan: Declaration of War Attraction

"Declaration of War" is a familiar title for Attack on Titan fans as this was the title of the fourth season of the fifth episode of the anime adaptation. During this installment, Eren would finally have a reunion with the Armored Titan Reiner while also unleashing the power of the Attack Titan on Marley. This acted as a major moment in the history of the series as it was a major building block in leading Jaeger down his nefarious path.

Here's how iRide describes its technology that is soon to team up with Attack on Titan, "Originating from everyone's desire to fly, the imagination of flying freely in the clouds with your feet dangling in the air, now the "i-Ride Unlimited Flight Bureau" will take you on an immersive adventure. i-Ride has the most advanced somatosensory simulation system, allowing you to travel through worlds you have thought about or even unexpectedly, and experience the infinite charm of roaming in the air with the most realistic feeling. Can't wait to take off? Come with i-Ride now ------ Feel the Flight."

Godzilla Minus One Minus Color Reveals Netflix Release Date https://comicbook.com/anime/news/godzilla-minus-one-minus-color-netflix-release-date/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 15:58:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 3494eb44-db3a-4bbb-9876-7ce9c2492ed0

Godzilla Minus One rampaged up the charts when it came to the numbers that the lizard king was netting on Netflix. While the physical Blu-Ray/4K set is coming to North America this September, Netflix subscribers already have the chance to revisit what is considered by many to be the greatest Godzilla movie of all time. Thanks to the movie's ever-growing popularity, Netflix has announced that the legendary take on the film, "Godzilla Minus One Minus Color" is joining the platform's roster. Considered by the director to be far scarier than the original version, it might be worth returning to the world of Godzilla this summer.

Earlier this year, Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki described to the LA Times why he felt that the black and white version of his Academy Award winning film was the scarier iteration, "I want to say it's scarier because it feels like it's happening in real life. It's a different level of scariness than the color version. We didn't just tint it and turn on a black and white switch; almost each cut, we added a touch of special effects to meet the standards of what this would look like if it were shot in black and white."

Godzilla Minus One Minus Color's Release Date

Godzilla Minus One Minus Color will hit Netflix on August 1st. While the new take on the king of the monsters doesn't include new footage, it does give the film a far eerier take and once again reflects the origins of the kaiju since Godzilla's first movie was also shown without color.

In a separate interview for the black and white version of the kaiju film, Yamazaki broke down the process of creating the new take on the classic king of the monsters, "What I was aiming for was a style that looked like it was taken by masters of monochrome photography. We were able to unearth the texture of the skin and the details of the scenery that were hidden in the photographed data. Then, a frightening Godzilla, just like the one in the documentary, appeared. By eliminating color, a new sense of reality emerges. Please live and resist further fear at the theater."

My Hero Academia: You're Next Reveals Its Mafia-Style Villains https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-youre-next-mafia-villains-first-look/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 15:30:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 3222bebd-4877-4bc5-bb21-1e201e1d807e

What is a good villain without good henchmen anyway? In the first three films of the My Hero Academia franchise, the big bads of each movie had their own respective goons that would cause problems for the students of UA Academy. It seems that the mysterious Dark Might will be no different as various underlings have been featured in the lead-up to the movie hitting Japan next month. Revealing a closer look at the mob-style villains, My Hero Academia is letting fans examine the antagonists that clearly have an affinity for the mob while backing up All Might's dark doppelganger.

The mafia-style villains are known as the Gorrini Family and while the movie has yet to break down their Quirks, they appear menacing enough to offer a challenge to the anime crime fighters. When it comes to "Dark Might" there are still plenty of questions surrounding the mysterious foe as the only thing fans know so far is that he sports both a similar appearance and powerset to the former Symbol of Peace. While we've seen the likes of Deku and his young allies increase the strength of their Quirks in recent days, taking on a being who is on the same level as All Might is going to be no easy task.

The Gorrini Family Revealed

My Hero Academia: You're Next revealed new images that take a closer look at the Gorrini Family. In the first image, you can spot the likes of Hugo (Ken Uno), Jill (Voice Actor Unknown), Kamil (Yuki Ono), and Deborah (Minako Kotobuki). In the second image, you can see Paulo (Yusuke Kobayashi), Simon (Michitake Kikuchi), and Bruno (Masaki Terasoma).

If you want to learn more about My Hero Academia's fourth film, here's how Studio Bones describes the movie on the official website, "An all-out war between the two. Izuku confronts Shigaraki Tomura, who has acquired a terrifying power, and they clash violently. Both sides suffered heavy damage, and the battle came to an end with Shigaraki's retreat, but the time for the two sides to meet again was fast approaching. In a society devastated by the effects of this all-out war, a mysterious giant fortress suddenly appeared, swallowing up towns and people one after another. Then, a man reminiscent of a "symbol of peace" stood before Izuku and his friends..."

Marvel's Agatha All Along Star Says Series Is Surprisingly Scary https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvels-agatha-all-along-star-says-series-is-surprisingly-scary/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 15:11:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 9d64f0d9-f77c-4321-aab5-a0697be1686f

It's been a long road and a number of title changes, but this Halloween, Agatha All Along will finally debut on Disney+. The series, a direct sequel to WandaVision, stars Kathryn Hahn in the role of Agatha Harnkess. Picking up where she left off, Agatha has lost most of her magical mojo, but she's still smart and determined to get back on top. The series was promoted with the signature humor that Agatha brought to most of her scenes in WandaVision, but of course she was still a pretty serious threat in that show -- and according to co-star Sasheer Zamata, this will be a little more Werewolf By Night and less Married...With Children than people might expect.

Speaking with ComicBook in support of Apple TV+'s new Exploding Kittens show, Zamata said that it's "quite scary" and that she thinks it will shock the audience.

"I, and I think the fans, will be surprised at how much horror is in the show," Zamata told ComicBook. "It really is quite scary and dramatic and violent and all the things. And also funny! But I think the range of what the show is going to do will be a shock for people."

In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches' Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they're missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road...

In addition to Kathryn Hahn, Agatha All Along stars Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, with Debra Jo Rupp, with Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza. The executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Mary Livanos and Jac Schaeffer.

Directors for the series include Jac Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg (Gen V), and Gandja Montiero (The Walking Dead: Dead City). The series boasts a strong lineup, which is important since they are clearly still dipping in and out of different styles of filmmaking at least at the start of the season.

Marvel Television's Agatha All Along will premiere September 18 at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET, with the first two episodes on Disney+, then debut one episode per week thereafter.

Apple TV+'s Exploding Kittens premieres later this month.

One-Punch Man Artist Shares New Bleach Crossover Art https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-punch-man-artist-bleach-crossover/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 15:03:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 8f2d3f9e-5f5f-4586-bbbb-f49c62138f55

One-Punch Man's artist has penned some of the biggest battles in manga history and Yusuke Murata hasn't been shy regarding his love of all things anime. Before taking on Saitama and the world of the Hero Association, Murata worked on an American football manga known as Eyeshield 21. Ending in 2009, Murata has been on a campaign to take on other anime characters while integrating the football heroes and villains into said art pieces. Now, Yusuke has taken the chance to work on Ichigo Kurosaki and the Soul Society of Bleach, creating an anime crossover for the ages.

At present, One-Punch Man has its third anime season in the works, though fans are still wondering when the "Hero For Fun" will make a comeback. J.C. Staff, the production house that is returning to the hard-hitting anime adaptation, has kept their cards close to their chests and anime fans are wondering if season three will arrive this year or make landfall in 2025. Luckily, the other side of the equation, Bleach, has confirmed that the third cours of the Thousand-Year Blood War will hit the small screen this October as was announced at this year's Anime Expo.

One-Punch Bleach

As a part of celebrating the American football manga, Murata has been on a campaign to cross anime worlds as both himself and other manga artists lend their talents to the franchise. Combining Eyeshield 21 with Bleach, the One-Punch Man artist has created a crossover that will most likely never hit the small screen but is making ripples in the anime world all the same. Ichigo and Rukia are front and center in the art that once again brings the sports anime back into the public eye.

When it comes to Bleach's upcoming anime return, Ichigo and his human allies are now face-to-face with the leader of the Sternritter, Yhwach, as the powerful villain has decimated the Soul Society's Royal Guard. On the flip side, One-Punch Man's third season will once again place a spotlight on the Hero Killer Garou as he has now become a part of the Monster Association.

Major anime franchises such as Solo Leveling, Noblesse, and Tower of God are only a few examples of Webtoons that became a hit in the anime world by leaping to the small screen. Now, YouTube's Try Guys are getting in on the Webtoon game with a brand new project known as Souper Sick, which appears to be leveraging their style of humor to the ever-growing medium.

Try Guys' founder Zach Kornfeld couldn't be more excited for the endeavor, sharing his thought, "WEBTOON is our latest obsession, so it was only a matter of time before we tried to make our own webcomic. Going into this, we were skeptical about our abilities as comics creators, but it turns out that webcomic storytelling works with The Try Guys' process in a way we didn't expect. Our day at WEBTOON proved to us that if we can create a digital comic, it's true that anyone really can!"

Here's how WEBTOON describes the project which will see the Try Guys exploring a new side of their creative endeavors, "Souper Sick" is a three-episode webcomic created by The Try Guys' founder Keith Habersberger and members Jonny Manganello and Kwesi James in collaboration with WEBTOON creator Shen ("Bluechair") and artist Valery. In "Souper Sick," Try Guys Keith, Jonny, and Kwesi embark on a mission to craft their own webcomic. Except there's one problem: their castmate Zach, the ultimate comic fan, is sick! The webcomic hilariously chronicles their journey, capturing every moment of their creative process as they bring the story to life"

So when can we expect the new project to arrive? Sooner than you might think according to the press release, "The new webcomic, "Souper Sick," will launch exclusively on WEBTOON's English-language platform on July 12, along with a new Try Guys video on 2ndTry showing how the Guys brought the story to life on WEBTOON. Seth Rogen says the planned sequel to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is coming along pretty well. There's apparently a full-storyboarded animatic of the movie, and it has a title -- one that Rogen says he's very excited about. The star has been a steady presence in animation recently, with Mutant Mayhem joining things like Invincible and The Super Mario Bros. Movie on his resume. His latest animated outing, Prime Video's Sausage Party: Foodtopia, just dropped on the streamer, and Rogen spoke with ComicBook in support of the show. That's when Chris Killian took the chance to ask a little more about Mutant Mayhem.

One Piece Editor Teases Big Twist for Egghead Arc's Finale https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-editor-egghead-finale-big-twist/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 21:58:00 +0000 Evan Valentine b930f00d-ccae-44de-954e-aeaf98d66d85

Once the Wano Arc came to a close, many One Piece fans wondered how Eiichiro Oda would manage to up the stakes when it came to the Straw Hat Pirates' final saga. Luckily, the mangaka has been able to exceed expectations with the Egghead Arc. Coming face to face with the elusive Dr. Vegapunk, Luffy and his crew have already learned some stunning revelations about the Grand Line in their short visit to Future Island. In a new interview, one of the biggest editors of One Piece's manga took the chance to hint at a major twist that is looking to shake the world of the Straw Hats in the Egghead Arc finale.

In the anime, the Straw Hat Pirates have already fought against Rob Lucci and his fellow government agents once they hit Future Island, but the battles of the manga have exceeded expectations. For the first time, the Five Elders hit the field and without revealing much in the way of spoiler territory, they present a challenge that Luffy and his fellow pirates have never faced before. As the mysterious Imu waits in the shadows, ruling above the Elders, there are still plenty of questions that remain unanswered when it comes to the Grand Line.

What Lies in Wait on Future Island?

In the past, current One Piece editor, Kaito Anayama, has revealed that Eiichiro Oda revealed to him just what the legendary One Piece was. In continuing his editorial duties, Anayama confirmed that there is still at least one mind-blowing moment left on Egghead Island, "It's been stated that Egghead would conclude with a major incident. However, there is still one more big twist to it. I won't say anything else or they'll erase me lol"

While the anime is still going strong past eleven hundred episodes, Wit Studio and Netflix are working on a reboot of the series titled "The One Piece". While the reboot has yet to reveal a release date, the streaming service and the production house are hoping to bring a new generation into the adventures of Luffy and company by adding some wild new animation to the earlier stories. However you look at it, it's a great time to be a One Piece fan.

Gurren Lagann Vs. Kill la Kill Hits Japan https://comicbook.com/anime/news/gurren-lagann-vs-kill-la-kill-japan-anime/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 21:01:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 9ff99ecf-26c3-42c4-9934-1ef0bb2225ed

Studio TRIGGER might have worked on the likes of Delicious in Dungeon and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners most recently but the production house "cut its teeth" on the likes of Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann. While neither Gurren Lagann nor Kill la Kill have returned with new anime projects in years, the former did recently return to theaters to re-introduce fans to the movies of the franchise. In a wild new anime exhibit in Japan, TRIGGER has pitted the two series against one another in a locale known as "Gurren Lagann Vs. Kill la Kill" that collects original art, memorabilia, and even a mech recreation.

While both franchises were brought to the screen by TRIGGER, Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann are two very different anime stories. Kill la Kill focuses on the story of Ryuko Matoi, a transfer student who arrives at a school with a very unique hierarchy. Wielding a super-powered suit of clothing that gives Ryuko a leg up during her schoolyard brawls, the series was able to capture some serious attention thanks to its dynamic battles and mind-bending attire. My Hero Academia Season 7 Part 2 Preview Released: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-seventh-season-part-two-preview-watch/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 20:26:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 72d80d80-8f98-4737-8228-aa40fafdd39f

My Hero Academia's seventh anime season took a week off to act as a break between the first and second cours of the first leg of the final battle. The series is aiming to roar back to the small screen by picking up where it left off. When last we saw the final battle, Endeavor and Hawks were joined by Jiro and Tokoyami in a four on one fight against All For One. Despite having the numbers on their side, the Demon Lord isn't going down easy as his vast array of Quirks are proving a problem for heroes young and old. In a recently release preview, anime fans can get a glimpse at what will take place in the seventh season's tenth episode.

While All For One and Shigaraki are the leads of the villainous army, there are more than a few battles that are a part of the final fight. So far, My Hero Academia has seemingly already brought the fight between Shoto Todoroki and his villainous brother Dabi. Now that the number one hero Endeavor is trying to pay for his past sins, his Quirk might not be enough to take down All For One as he has already suffered a grievous injury in their head-on confrontation.

My Hero Academia's Seventh Season Cours 2 Preview

My Hero Academia's next episode will air on July 13th, detailing whether Tokoyami, Jiro, and Endeavor can bounce back from their various injuries. The fight might not be entirely lost for the heroes but they are going to have to turn things around quickly as All For One is still in peak physical condition with his monstrous Quirk intact.

The tenth episode of My Hero Academia's seventh season is titled, "Immolation". To learn more about the next installment, the following official synopsis was shared by the shonen series, "Endeavor collapses before All For One's threat, and Hawks, Jiro, and Tokoyami are also cornered. Still, Jiro cries out as a hero and Endeavor, who was thinking about himself, also inspired himself!"

As manga fans know, My Hero Academia's printed story will come to a definitive end this August. While season seven hasn't been confirmed as the anime's last, it's a safe bet that season eight will be the franchise's last. However My Hero Academia ends, the lasting legacy of UA Academy on the anime world won't soon be forgotten.

Creature Commandos: New Look at DC Studios Animated Series Released https://comicbook.com/anime/news/creature-commandos-new-look-at-dc-studios-animated-series-released/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 20:01:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 90a8935f-bf33-4c09-9239-8dd130ef9dc0

A new piece of art from Creature Commandos, the DC Universe's flagship animated series, has been released ahead of Comic Con International in San Diego next week. The image serves as the cover to a Comic Con-exclusive edition of Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #1, which you can pick up at the show. Similar covers reveal the DC Universe's new Superman movie logo and a Silver Age throwback cover for Absolute Power #1. The Frankenstein issue will also include the first appearance of the Creature Commandos in Weird War Tales #93.

The Creature Commandos series will center on a team led by Rick Flag's father, and including Nina Mazursky, Dr. Phosphorus, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, and Weasel. It seems as though this will give background as to how Weasel came to be in the possession of Amanda Waller at the start of The Suicide Squad (although exactly how much of The Suicide Squad is canon is still not clear). You can see the new art below.

creature-commandos.jpg

"Creature Commandos is based on the great team from DC," Gunn explained. "What we're doing with the DCU is, we are having animation tied directly into live action. Television, movies, and games all intertwine within the same universe. We're going to cast actors that are going to be able to play the characters in this as well as in other things, some of which we've already cast. I've written all seven episodes of the show, and it's in production. So that's the first thing, and I love it."

As a team, the concept of the Creature Commandos might seem like it goes way back, but not as far as you might think. The team was created by J.M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick, and first appeared in 1980's Weird War Tales #93. They have only appeared in a few different iterations, but since 2011's Flashpoint, have appeared in a few different big crossover stories and even had a batch of animated shorts on Cartoon Network's DC Nation block in 2014.

Creature Commandos stars Sean Gunn as Weasel, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot, and Steve Agee (Peacemaker) reprising his role as John Economos.

Minions 3 Finally Revealed With 2027 Release Date https://comicbook.com/movies/news/minions-3-finally-revealed-with-2027-release-date/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 18:15:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 719c1c54-308e-4f87-b950-0d37a23ffa20

Minions 3 is officially happening. The sequel will arrive in theaters on June 30, 2027, Illumination announced today. That date puts it on track to be the big July 4 weekend opener -- something that makes a lot of sense, given that Despicable Me 4 just earned over $200 million in its global opening. The movie will be written by Brian Lynch (Minions, Big Helium Dog) and directed by Oscar nominee Pierre Coffin, a director on the first three Despicable Me movies and Minions. The film will be produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and by Bill Ryan.

There are no details on Minions 3 yet, but it seems safe to assume that it will once again involve the Minions in the past, helping Young Gru (Steve Carell) get into some shenanigans. On the other hand, some fans online have already started to speculate about the possibility of moving the Minions movies up into the present day and starting to focus them on Poppy Prescott (Joey King), who first appears as an aspiring supervillain in Despicable Me 4.

Coffin, in addition to directing, will provide Minions voices, which he has done since they debuted in 2010's Despicable Me. Variety first reported the news.

The franchise has been a pop culture phenomenon since then, closing in on $5 billion in total box office. The last Minions movie, Minions: The Rise of Gru, debuted at $125 million at the domestic box office and ended up making $939 million worldwide. Last week's Despicable Me 4 earned $122 million domestically, and is one of only a handful of big-budget tentpoles released this year to make a big splash.

The first Minions movie saw the gibberish-talking, indestructible goofballs working for Scarlett Overkill (Sandra Bullock), the world's first woman supervillain. By the end of the movie, she declared war on her own minions and lost -- leading them right to the doorstep of a very young Gru. In the second film, the Minions helped Gru and his favorite supervillain, Wild Knuckles (Alan Arkin), in a battle with a team of supervillains bent on killing them.

Lynch also wrote both Secret Life of Pets movies, Hop, and has story credits on Minions: The Rise of Gru and Puss in Boots. In addition to his work on the Despicable Me franchise, Coffin serves as the series director for the French animated series Pat et Stanley.

SpongeBob SquarePants Stars Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke on the Endurance of SpongeBob & Patrick https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/spongebob-squarepants-stars-tom-kenny-bill-fagerbakke-spongebob-patrick-kids-choice-awards-interview/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 17:02:00 +0000 Evan Valentine a39faab0-df3c-43a8-8bd8-13c40e453353

Spongebob and Patrick have been best friends for twenty-five years, as Spongebob Squarepants remains arguably the biggest series running on Nickelodeon. So popular did the franchise become, that even Patrick got a spin-off series in The Patrick Star Show. Later this year, a feature-length animated film will arrive on Netflix focusing on Sandy Cheeks, as the streaming service also has a movie featuring the villainous Plankton front and center. We here at ComicBook recently had the chance to chat with Tom Kenny and Bill Fagerbakke, the voices of Spongebob and Patrick, and discussed the longevity of the animated friends.

To start the interview, Kenny discussed the comedic pairing of Spongebob and Patrick, noting that the Bikini Bottom residents were aspiring to be synonymous with the likes of Laurel and Hardy, "The secret to the endurance of the characters is who they are as characters and how they interact with one another as characters. Individually, Spongebob and Patrick are cool but when you put them together, then you get a comedy team happening in the classic sense like Laurel and Hardy. That's what we aspired to emulate anyway."

Spongebob x Patrick: Bikini Bottom's Best Buds

Bill Fagerbakke added to the series that highlights the friendship between the Krusty Krab fry cook and the unemployed starfish, "The blueprint and idea for the show that Stephen Hillenburg laid out for years as a marine biologist and lover of animation and an animator, how that happened. Then he cast these people like Clancy Brown, Mary Jo Catlett, Roger Bumpus, Carolyn Lawrence, and Mr. Lawrence. It just all happened and we got lucky."

While Spongebob Squarepants has run for decades, the cast doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon. Earlier this year, Kenny and Fagerbakke provided commentary for the Super Bowl and are planning to be a part of a special panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.

The 2024 Kids' Choice Awards, hosted by SpongeBob SquarePants (voiced by Tom Kenny) and Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) live from Bikini Bottom, will air Saturday, July 13, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon. Fans in the U.S. can now cast their votes across 33 categories on the official Kids' Choice Awards website: KidsChoiceAwards.com.

Watchmen Chapter 1: J. Michael Straczynski Wrote Script for Animated Adaptation https://comicbook.com/movies/news/watchmen-chapter-1-j-michael-straczynski-wrote-script-for-animated-adaptation/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 16:58:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 23589c57-0870-4b6d-bec3-2d8d512934ef

Fan-favorite comics and TV writer J. Michael Straczynski will provide the screenplay for Warner Bros. Animation's forthcoming adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' seminal comic book Watchmen. The two-part, animated movie aims to be the most direct adaptation to date (if you ignore the motion comics that actually did get a DVD release in 2009). Addressing the movie's just-released trailer on social media, the Babylon 5 creator warned fans not to watch out for any of his signature touches, as he did his best to basically translate the comic into a format that worked for animation.

Per Straczynski, he actually insisted on an "adapted by" credit for the movie, rather than the standard "written by." There's no word on whether Moore and Gibbons will get an onscreen credit; when a Watchmen sequel was brought to the small screen in 2019, Moore asked that his name be left off it.

"I can now talk about it as the news is breaking. I adapted Watchmen for Warners animation," Straczynski said on social media. "By 'adapted' I mean strictly configuring the structure to work in a movie. I saw no need to write more material or change what works in the book. It's pure Moore."

Straczynski has already written more material featuring these characters; he wrote three of the Before Watchmen miniseries that were released in 2012. At the time, he was defiant when presented with criticism of the project.

"I think that Alan loses the moral high ground when you look at the last ten, fifteen years of his career, and he's working with other people's characters--in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Lost Girls, on and on--almost creating slash fan fiction," Straczynski told me in 2012. "That's kind of the cowardly way to look at it. At least we're doing this while Alan is still alive and he can have a voice."

On X, Straczynski also seemingly took a shot at Zack Snyder's live-action Watchmen movie, which removed the Tales of the Black Freighter sequence from the film, but released it as a stand-alone animated movie. Tales of the Black Freighter was a comic book within the universe of the Watchmen narrative, and readers experienced it along with a young reader at a newsstand. While it was a story-within-a-story, it interacts narratively with what's happening in Watchmen, and its removal from the theatrical film was one of the common criticisms by comic book fans.

"That material isn't expendable, as it reflects, comments upon and counterpoints what's going on in the present storyline," Straczynski said. "Treating it like something apart means one doesn't actually understand what it's there for."

Of course, the Ultimate Cut of Snyder's Watchmen restored the Black Freighter material, so maybe we're overthinking what Straczynski was trying to say there.

Here's how WB describes the animated movie: "In an alternate world, the murder of a government sponsored superhero draws his outlawed colleagues out of retirement, into a mystery that threatens their lives and the world itself."

Watchmen Chapter 1 will be available digitally on August 13.

The English voice actor cast includes Joe Daniels as Rick and Jerry, Gabriel Regojo as Morty, Donna Bella Litton as Summer and Patricia Duran as Beth. On the flip side, the Japanese voice actor cast includes Youhei Tadano, Keisuke Chiba, Akiha Matsui, Manabu Muraji and Takako Fuji.

Rick And Morty: The Anime Trailer & Release Date

Rick And Morty: The Anime's release date is August 15th at 12 AM on Adult Swim, premiering with its English version to start. On August 17th at midnight, the series will unveil the Japanese Dub with English subtitles for Adult Swim fans.

Adult Swim President, Michael Ouweleen, discussed the upcoming series and Takashi Sano's involvement in the project, "Takashi Sano, in addition to being a super-talented director, is also a huge 'Rick and Morty' fan. If you want to learn more about the upcoming Adult Swim anime, here's how the programming block describes the Rick And Morty spin-off, "In Rick and Morty: The Anime, a new series from the world of 'Rick and Morty,' Rick relaxes in a pseudo-world between multiverses, Summer helps Space Beth fight the evil Galactic Federation, and Morty falls in love with a mysterious girl who happens to be an atemporal being."

Jujutsu Kaisen's Creator Believes Yuji Makes The Series "Bland" https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-creator-gege-akutami-yuji-itadori-bland-interview/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 16:05:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 0d7d625e-c8af-4d5d-b308-2b541a85f5a3

Jujutsu Kaisen has become a juggernaut in the anime world, selling millions of manga volumes and becoming a hit on both the small and silver screen. The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen put Yuji Itadori and his friends through the wringer as they found themselves trying to survive the Shibuya Incident Arc. As creator Gege Akutami sets the stage for the grand finale that will end the franchise, the mangaka took the opportunity to talk about his protagonist Yuji and the distinctive approach the artist took when it came to his place in the cursed world.

Yuji Itadori has several elements in common with other shonen protagonists, including the likes of Naruto Uzumaki and Ichigo Kurosaki. The Naruto and Bleach stars both have struggled with their own unique inner demons, but Yuji's might just be the most nefarious of them all. Sukuna, the king of curses, hasn't just been the dark half of Yuji, he has been one of the biggest villains of the series and is considered to be the "Big Bad" of Jujutsu Tech.

Gege Akutami's "Bland" Main Character

In a new interview as a part of the opening of the Jujutsu Kaisen Exhibit in Japan, creator Gege Akutami took the chance to explain why he decided to create Yuji Itadori and how the protagonist works in the realm of the shonen series, "Itadori's versatility is in the sense that he's easy to fit into shounen-type stories, but this can also make the stories a bit bland. When Itadori does something straightforward, like saving someone, there's no real need for a reason behind it, so the story is easy to move forward but it also can lead to the reader not feeling much or not getting a good taste of his actions."

Akutami then described how he wanted Yuji Itadori to be a 'universal character', "My idea was to use other characters to pave a defined path and portray a universal protagonist. I wanted Itadori to be a flexible character."

Jujutsu Kaisen is already confirmed for a third season, which will see Yuji Itadori struggling with the arrival of the Culling Games. Now that countless cursed energy users have awoken thanks to Suguru Geto's machinations, Yuji and the world are going to sail some rough seas ahead.

New My Hero Academia: You're Next Trailer Highlight Fight Against Dark Might https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-youre-next-trailer-watch/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 15:29:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 307a7b01-8cda-455e-9559-00a6e1e22479

My Hero Academia's movies take place in the main continuity and have each presented unique challenges to Deku and his classmates in Class 1-A. Villains like Wolfram, Nine, and Humarize have each attempted to create new worlds that were at odds with Hero Society. In You're Next, the fourth film of the shonen franchise, a new threat is on the horizon that is a little too familiar. Dark Might, a nefarious doppelganger of All Might, is set to take on the students of UA Academy and a new trailer highlights how several young superheroes fight against the smiling foe.

As mentioned earlier, each of the feature-length films takes place in the timeline of My Hero Academia's story. When it comes to You're Next, it will be interesting to see if this takes place in the week before the fight that caps off the "Final Arc" or if it happens after the battle against All For One and Shigaraki. The manga is looking to release its final chapter this August so the future of the films remains up in the air. With Studio Bones sticking with Deku's tale, there's a possibility that the movies will continue past the conclusion of both the manga and the television series.

My Hero Academia: Dark Might Rises

While Dark Might might be a copy of All Might, there are still many questions surrounding the villain's origin. While One For All has been transferred to new users, it will be interesting to see how the villain has been able to mimic the all-powerful Quirk.

Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Explains How Bleach and Naruto Inspired the Manga https://comicbook.com/anime/news/jujutsu-kaisen-manga-gege-akutami-bleach-naruto-inspiration/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 02:50:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 64b4bd59-dfb5-41ff-ac2a-b9e4bcefe19e

Jujutsu Kaisen's creator opened up about how Bleach and Naruto ended up influencing the first chapter of their manga series! Jujutsu Kaisen is now in the midst of the Shinjuku Showdown arc, and each new chapter of the manga has been more intense than the last. But at the same time, the franchise has also never been bigger as the success of the anime has pushed its worldwide recognition to a whole new kind of level with collaborations with the likes of McDonald's, Megan Thee Stallion, Fanta and more. So it's the perfect time to celebration how far the manga has come.

Jujutsu Kaisen has launched a special exhibition in Japan showing off new looks at the manga, and with it comes some extra behind the scenes information from series creator Gege Akutami himself. With the creator answering questions about his inspirations (as translated by @soukatsu_ on X), he also elaborated more on how the manga was ultimately inspired by Tite Kubo's Bleach and Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto for the first chapter of the manga and the dynamic between Yuji and Sukuna.

jujutsu-kaisen-manga-gege-akutami-bleach-naruto.jpg
(Photo: Shueisha)

How Bleach and Naruto Inspired Jujutsu Kaisen

"In Naruto, it's the relationship between the main character Naruto Uzumaki and the Nine-Tailed Fox," Jujutsu Kaisen series creator Gege Akutami began when opening up about the connections between Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen. "For Itadori, it's Sukuna and for Okkotsu, it's Rika. In Volume 0, the story ended in reconciliation like in Naruto, but I thought Jujutsu Kaisen needed a different approach, so I tried to portray Sukuna as someone completely incompatible [with Itadori]."

As for the Bleach side of things, Akutami mentioned how Yuji was inspired to be a more driven character to answer the call to action much like Ichigo was in that series, "For Bleach, it's the story framework. The protagonist Ichigo becomes a shinigami of his own volition after getting swept up in an unexpected incident. I was really conscious of the 'of his own will' aspect in Jujutsu Kaisen when Itadori gets the cursed object."

Jujutsu Kaisen has worn its Shonen Jump manga inspirations on its sleeve often noting connections both in and out of the series' universe, so to find out that these connections bury even deeper into the core of how the manga first began certainly is fun to see considering how much of a hit that Jujutsu Kaisen has become these days.

My Hero Academia Epilogue Cliffhanger Teases New First Years https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-manga-ending-new-first-years/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 00:04:00 +0000 Nick Valdez 086331fd-8e3f-4d03-8fcc-088645c41561

My Hero Academia is now in its final slate of chapters before the manga comes to an end, and the final moments from the newest chapter of the epilogue has introduced a new wave of first year hero students! My Hero Academia is now in the midst of working through a special epilogue arc following the end of the fights between Tomura Shigaraki and All For One, and Izuku Midoriya and the rest of the young heroes have now started to move on with the rest of their lives. This means that the manga has also broken a streak that went on for nearly five years.

My Hero Academia has brought Deku and the other members of Class 1-A, and it was revealed that following the war they have officially kicked off their second year of U.A. Academy. Now that the two of them are in the start of their new year, it's time for the school to also bring in a new wave of hero students who are starting their journeys from the very beginning. It's something that Deku and the others are going to need to adjust to as they are now the older ones here.

My Hero Academia: New First Years Join School

My Hero Academia Chapter 427 continues working its way through the epilogue are as Deku is seeing how some of the surviving heroes and villains are moving on following the final war. The final pages of the chapter then sees Aizawa warn them to change their somber moods because the new first years will be starting their time at school, and it's already taken all of them by surprise. Due to how big their roles in the war were, the first years all immediately recognize them and rush them upon first meeting.

Katsuki Bakugo and Shoto Todoroki are immediately very popular as the wave of new first year students all wait to take selfies and meet them directly, and it's clear that they have already gotten popular even before becoming professional heroes. It's yet to be revealed what this means for Deku's future as well within the school, but now the heroes are all moving on with their lives and moving forward in school.

With only a few chapters of My Hero Academia left to go before it ends, now is the time to catch up with the series with either Viz Media's digital Shonen Jump library or Shueisha's MangaPlus service.

Craig of the Creek only has a few more episodes left to air before it all ends according to one of the creators behind it all! Craig of the Creek has been through some big changes in the last few years as following the announcement of a full fifth season of the TV series and a new movie, the fifth season ended up getting cut to a few episodes shorter than originally ordered. With the release of the movie, Craig Before the Creek, and the first half of Season 5 last year, it's now time for the final episodes to air.

Craig of the Creek returned earlier this Spring with the first half of the final episodes of the season. This special event, The Sleepover Chronicles, kicked off a special story where Craig has been spending the night with many of the other kids in the creek. But with the final episode of this special airing, Craig of the Creek co-creator Ben Levin revealed to fans on social media that there are actually only four more episodes of the series left before it ends. So fans will want to mark their calendars for later this Fall.

When Will Craig of the Creek End?

As shared by Craig of the Creek co-creator Ben Levin on Instagram after the Sleepover Chronicles, "...there are only FOUR episodes left of Craig of the Creek. They'll be airing 9/7-9/28. I'll be posting more up until then, but all I say now is that we've got some really special final episodes to say farewell to the show." So for fans hoping to see the show stick around for much longer, there are only four episodes left that will begin airing on September 7th. It's time to get ready for the end.

But when he learns that the nearby creek is hiding a lost treasure that could make his wish come true, Craig sets off on a journey to find it - navigating the perilous suburban wilderness, forging new friendships, all while being pursued by a fearsome band of pirates who are bent on destroying the Creek itself."

The Apothecary Diaries Releases Special Mini-Drama: Watch https://comicbook.com/anime/news/the-apothecary-diaries-short-anime-watch/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 21:37:00 +0000 Evan Valentine f998a857-51ed-4df7-8653-3ac7dfc71b90

The Apothecary Diaries have become a major play in the anime game, which is a fact that might leave those unfamiliar with the franchise scratching their heads. Produced by Toho and OLM, the anime adaptation's first season arrived in October of last year and has garnered some serious attention from anime fans. At this year's Anime Expo, the series confirmed that a second season was on the way for 2025, while also sharing a new trailer to get fans hyped. Now, The Apothecary Diaries has a new short to tide fans over until season two arrives.

To prove how popular The Apothecary Diaries has become, it sits as one of the highest-selling manga series in the world in 2024. Defeated only by Jujutsu Kaisen and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End so far, Maomao's story far surpasses the sales of One Piece, which is made all the more surprising considering how popular the Straw Hat Pirates remain. While we still have several months until the end of this year, it's a safe bet that The Apothecary Diaries will still be a top-selling manga before year's end.

The Apothecary Diaries' Special: Watch

The new short might be only one minute long but it does bring back the series' stars. Nekoneko and Jinshi once again return in the video that you can watch below as anime fans wait for the second season of the anime franchise that is tearing things up in the manga world.

If you haven't seen the first season of The Apothecary Diaries, the series is streaming on Crunchyroll. Here's how the streaming service describes the popular anime series, "Maomao, a young woman trained in the art of herbal medicine, is forced to work as a lowly servant in the inner palace. Though she yearns for life outside its perfumed halls, she isn't long for a life of drudgery! Using her wits to break a "curse" afflicting the imperial heirs, Maomao attracts the attention of the handsome eunuch Jinshi and is promoted to attendant food taster. But Jinshi has other plans for the erstwhile apothecary, and soon Maomao is back to brewing potions and...solving mysteries?!"

The Dragon Prince Season 6 Releases New Posters https://comicbook.com/anime/news/the-dragon-prince-season-6-posters/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 20:51:00 +0000 Nick Valdez ebe076ec-e99c-48fa-b3c2-b5d3813070c1

The Dragon Prince will be making its return to Netflix with Season 6 of the animated series later this month, and fans have gotten a mysterious look at what to expect next with some ominous posters for the new episodes! The Dragon Prince kicked off The Mystery of Aaravos saga a bit ago as it started to skew the animated series in a much darker direction than seen in the first few seasons. As the Netflix animated series gets closer to its grand finale, however, this is only going to get more intense for all the characters involved with these final seasons.

The Dragon Prince Season 6 will be making its premiere worldwide with Netflix later this month, and is going to continue down the dark path of the Mystery of Aaravos saga through to its ordered final seventh season. But there's still a ton of questions about what to expect from the coming episodes, and that's only more intriguing with the release of a few ominous looking posters that you can check out below ahead of The Dragon Prince Season 6's premiere later this month.

The Dragon Prince Season 6 Release Date

The Dragon Prince Season 6 will be releasing on Netflix on July 26th, but has yet to reveal how many episodes it will be sticking around for. This serves as the second to last season of the animated series, so now is the perfect time to catch up with every season of the series released thus far now streaming with Netflix. As for what to expect, Wonderstorm teases the latest season of the series as such:

"The Netflix animated series THE DRAGON PRINCE returns for a nine-episode fifth season on July 27, 2023. In this exciting next chapter of the 'Mystery of Aaravos' arc, we rejoin our heroes after their narrow escape from the depths of Umber Tor. With the map to Aaravos' prison in hand, Claudia and Terry race against time to save Viren's life. Meanwhile, Callum, Rayla, Ezran, and Soren seek out new friends (and old) to help them prevent the return of the infamous Startouch Elf."

Speaking to the darker tone in The Dragon Prince Season 5, series co-creator Justin Richmond noted the evolution to ComicBook as such, "Yeah, since the beginning, we'd always said that these seasons get progressively more mature and some of that means that we go to darker places and this is the first flexing of those muscles in terms of putting it into the show.

One Piece Releases Emotional Trailer All About Kuma https://comicbook.com/anime/news/one-piece-emotional-kuma-trailer-watch/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 20:19:00 +0000 Evan Valentine a0be902e-39fd-44d2-9917-4bfe8c13d14c

Bartholomew Kuma has been a major part of the One Piece series for quite some time. As Eiichiro Oda continues to assemble the heroes and villains of the Grand Line to big a "fond farewell" to the Straw Hat Pirates, the larger-than-life figure has been a key part of Future Island. With his daughter Bonney looking to save her father's body and brain, it should come as no surprise that Kuma has become a pivotal figure. In promoting the action-packed manga series and its final saga, Weekly Shonen Jump has shared a new trailer compiling the highs and lows of the cyborg.

While Kuma has been under the thumb of the military for quite some time, things are starting to change thanks to the events taking place in the Egghead Arc. Finally managing to come into his own once again, Kuma is looking to protect his daughter and even took the opportunity to deliver a devastating blow to the Five Elders in the process. While Luffy has found some serious strength via his Gear Fifth transformation, gaining an ally as strong as Kuma was a much-needed boost to the Straw Hats' chances in surviving the final saga and achieving their respective dreams.

One Piece: The Kuma Trailer

One Piece's manga shared a longer trailer that touches upon some of the recent big moments of the manga focusing on Kuma. In the anime, the final saga recently featured Bonney witnessing the earlier days of her father and the abuse that he underwent to make him the man he is today. It might be some time before we see Kuma jump into action in the live-action adaptation on Netflix but his presence is felt far and wide in One Piece's recent days.

While this might be the final saga for the Straw Hat Pirates, that doesn't mean that One Piece is ending any time soon. Eiichiro Oda hasn't confirmed the release date for the manga's final chapter and typically, sagas in the shonen's history have continued for years. Certainly, with the number of characters and elements that are still hanging, it might be some time before we see the Thousand Sunny sail off into the sunset.

Want to see if Kuma is able to survive breaking free of the military? Follow along with Team Anime on ComicBook for all the latest updates on the Grand Line.

My Hero Academia Cosplay Cleans Up With Wash https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-cosplay-perfect-wash/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 19:14:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 05690cd6-5ec8-4918-812b-c15e8ba617be

My Hero Academia might be close to its grand finale but anime fans won't soon forget the story of Deku and his classmates at UA Academy. While the high-schoolers received the lion's share of attention in the series, they weren't alone when it came to fighting against the likes of All For One, Shigaraki, and the vast army that made up the Paranormal Liberation Front. While heroes like All Might and Endeavor were powerful enough to climb the superhero ladder, strength wasn't the only element of becoming a top hero as Wash proves. Now, one cosplayer has brought the laundry-themed hero to life.

One of the biggest elements of My Hero Academia is the Quirks of the universe's citizens. Heroes such as Chargebolt and Lemillion initially had Quirks that had some serious drawbacks and were considered by many to not make the grade. Luckily, despite some Quirks' weaknesses, UA Academy has helped the young heroes forge themselves into amazing crime fighters. Wash, aka Susugu Mitarai, looks like an actual laundry machine, having powers that would also fit perfectly for a walking/talking washing machine. While it's unknown if we'll see Wash one more time before the series finale this August so fans might have already said goodbye to the professional hero on the printed page.

It's A Wash

On its face, having the ability to create and control "soapy water" doesn't seem all that impressive but with Wash, it's all about what you do with it. Susugu has managed to find ways to both strengthen and master this power to make said soapy water both an offensive and defensive technique. While Wash might not be the most powerful hero around, the laundry hero has earned their place in the upper ranks of Hero Society.

While My Hero Academia's manga is ending this summer, the anime adaptation still has some gas in the tank. Season Seven is underway and while season eight could very well be the anime's last, there are still plenty of wild battles and character moments that have yet to take place on the small screen.

Do you want to see if Wash will appear in My Hero Academia's grand finale? Follow along with Team Anime on ComicBook for all the latest updates on Class 1-A.

Demon Slayer Began Work on Hashira Training Arc Way Before We Knew https://comicbook.com/anime/news/demon-slayer-season-four-hashira-training-origin/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 18:22:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 75906dba-379f-4d67-a84c-9f4c6ca2359f

Demon Slayer's fourth season has ended with a bang. Quickly following the conclusion of the Hashira Training Arc, Ufotable confirmed that the series would continue via three theatrical films that will cover the battles taking place in the Infinity Castle Arc. It's no secret that a great anime takes time to create as it takes a lot of moving pieces to forge a story, especially one as dynamic as Tanjiro's. In the upcoming Blu-Ray for the fourth season, Demon Slayer revealed that the Hashira Training Arc's anime adaptation has been in the works for longer than you might expect.

Demon Slayer's fourth season didn't see Tanjiro taking on demons, for the most part, but rather, had the anime protagonist focusing on his skills by learning from the Hashira. Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu went through hell and back to make sure that their skills were at their highest level, which makes sense considering the challenges that are lying in wait. The Demon Lord Muzan is vying to take Nezuko to help him in his quest to survive in the sun, as the Swordsmith Village Arc changed the game. When the latest season ends, Tanjiro and the Hashira find themselves trapped in the Infinity Castle and will have some of their biggest battles taking place in the movie.

Demon Slayer's Hashira Beginnings

In the upcoming Demon Slayer Season Four Blu-Ray Set, it is revealed that the anime season first began production in 2022. This means that it was being worked on while the second season was still airing. The first episode storyboard draft was updated on April 16, 2022 and dubbing began later that year on June 2. While the Infinity Castle films have yet to reveal their release dates, this previous schedule hints to the idea that anime fans might not be waiting as long as they might think.

Demon Slayer's original story that took place in the manga ended in 2020, meaning that the anime has taken some time in playing catch-up with Tanjiro's story. Unfortunately, creator Koyoharu Gotouge hasn't confirmed that a season and/or spin-off is on the way so you might want to prepare to say goodbye to Tanjiro and his friends forever when it comes to the anime and the upcoming film trilogy.

My Hero Academia: You're Next Team Dissect Dark Might https://comicbook.com/anime/news/my-hero-academia-youre-next-team-dark-might-explained/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 17:57:00 +0000 Evan Valentine 502f1e03-3dfd-488a-8d6e-a84a1748a082

My Hero Academia: You're Next will hit Japan this August and North America this December to act as the fourth feature-length film of the shonen franchise. In a giant twist of fate, Deku and his fellow classmates at UA Academy will be taking on a dark iteration of the one-time Symbol of Peace in Dark Might. While the origins of this character remain a mystery, if the villain has the same power level as All Might, than Class 1-A is in for the fight of their lives. In a new interview, series creator Kohei Horikoshi and screenwriter Yosuke Kuroda talked Dark Might and the battle he was bringing to the silver screen.

To start, Horikoshi discussed the creation of All Might's dark double, "I brought it up casually, like 'what about a villain like this?", but now that I think about it, there was a "Black All Might" idea in the plot proposals that Kuroda-san had come up with. So I probably had that vaguely in mind. I also thought it would look good to add flowers or something stylish like that. I think we discussed how it would be interesting to change the 'colors'."

Dark Might Is Coming

Following up on Horikoshi's explainer, screenwriter Yosuke Kuroda stated the following, "We started with the idea of a villain that misinterprets 'connections' between people. That's when Horikoshi-sensei showed me a drawing of 'Dark Might'. It was a perfect idea as to be expected of Horikoshi-sensei. He filled the piece of the puzzle we were still missing. After that I was able to dive into my work for the movie without hesitation."
