The Immortal Iron Fist may soon be immortal no more. Danny Rand first appeared in the pages of Marvel Premiere #15 in 1974, and he'll soon receive a hearty celebration in the form of Iron Fist 50th Anniversary Special #1. Though such an occasion would typically call for a jubilee, the House of Ideas is teasing a "tragic turn" for the Protector of K'un-Lun. With the oversized one-shot featuring stories from every point in time, the publisher notes it Danny Rand's that will be most tragic. What that tragic turn has yet to be seen, other than the fact it will appear in one of the comic's five stories.

"Ever since I saw Danny Rand in those green and yellows, I was a fan--not just because we shared a name, but because that look was so iconic!" Marvel editor Danny Khazem shared of the anniversary issue. "So to be able to work on this issue with all of these talented creators is a huge honor and pleasure. Danny's story has spanned five decades, but the legacy of the Iron Fist spans MILLIONS of years! And this issue dares to be the next step in not only the future of Danny Rand, but the future of the entire Iron Fist lore! Strap in as this is just the beginning!"

Is Finn Jones returning as Iron Fist?

With some actors returning to their Marvel roles in the MCU, namely Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, it has yet to be seen if Iron Fist star Finn Jones will be one of those who receive a callback. When we spoke with the actor in 2022, he told ComicBook he'd love to play the Sworn Enemy of the Hand once more.

"I would love to continue playing that character. I think there's a lot of room for growth. Personally, where I would like to see the reintroduction of the character would be something like a Heroes for Hire TV series," Jones said at the time. " I think that would be the most dynamic and fun way to reintroduce those characters. I loved working with Mike and I loved the on-screen chemistry between Danny and Luke. I think it's a really interesting creative place that show can be taken in. I'd love to pick up that mantle again and keep moving this character forward and make the best possible Iron Fist there could be."

Both seasons of Iron Fist are now streaming on Disney+.

Marvel Studios SDCC 2024 Panel Start Time, Length Revealed https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-studios-sdcc-2024-panel-start-time-length-revealed-kevin-feige/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 18:16:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 13001506-7e70-4286-99ee-7fde1b359642

Marvel Studios massive San Diego Comic-Con panel has an official time. On Saturday July 27 at 6pm PT, fans will get a preview of what's next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios will be up there to unpack all the announcements and reveals for San Diego Comic-Con's biggest panel of the weekend. Fans have been expecting some pretty big moves from Marvel after some of the shuffling earlier this year. A lot of projects got pushed to 2025 and beyond. There's a new director for Avengers 5 to announce and possibly new castings to be unveiled. So, Feige and company are going to have to hit the ground running.

One interesting fact headed into the big Marvel panel is that Feige will be pulling double duty headed into this event. On Friday night, the Marvel Studios head will be a part of a panel with Marvel Comics bigwig CB Cebulski to talk about the publishing side of the company. Expect some big comics news during that as well. This week already brought Agatha All Along's trailer and a teaser for Captain America: Brave New World. Before this week, both of those clips would have been locks for the San Diego stage. Now, some fans are wondering what will take their place. So, there are probably going to be some surprises in-store for people who tune-in for the MCU showcase.

Fantastic Four To Have Major Comic-Con Presence

Fantastic Four is already making its presence felt in San Diego. Near the convention center, there are already banners touting the Future Foundation. There are little teases for The Fantastic Four's characters on light posts as well. It's no secret that Marvel Studios is excited for Matt Shakman's take on the iconic family. No one might be more pumped than Kevin Feige himself. He joined The Official Marvel Podcast to talk about 2025's big summer blockbuster.

"Our director, Matt Shakman has already moved to London, and we start filming at the end of July. Funny story, we start shooting the Monday after Comic-Con," Feige told the podcast. "We start filming the day after on Fantastic Four. I'm extremely excited, because those characters are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel Universe that we've never gotten to play with or explore in any significant way apart from [Doctor Strange in the] Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before, in the way we're doing that film. So, I'm extremely excited."

"It is a period film, and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air making a 4 symbol. There was a cityscape in that image," Feige smirked. "There were a lot of smart people who noticed that that cityscape didn't look exactly like the New York that we know or the New York that existed in the 60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I'll say..."

Deadpool & Wolverine Director Reveals What Part of Making Sequel Was Most Fun https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-shawn-levy-ryan-reynolds-fun-making-sequel-mcu/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 14:47:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 37f70374-4a5f-4f99-8ef7-a5ea365eed2e

Deadpool & Wolverine's director revealed what ended up being the most fun during the movie. Shawn Levy knows people love the slight gore and bad words in a Deadpool film. But, the filmmaker told The Finanaical Times that "self-awareness" is the most fun while filming the sequel. A lot has been said on social media about Disney possibly changing the movie and making the tone different from the first two Deadpool films. (Early reactions to footage from fans has quickly disproved this notion.) But, with that irreverent tone still clearly rolling along, the ability to critique anything and everything in the MCU and beyond. Levy thinks that freedom is something that sets these movies apart from other superhero entries.

"People think of the R rating, the very foul language and audacious violence, but what's really the most fun about making Deadpool is the self-awareness," Levy muses. "He is literally turning and talking to the audience and commenting on culture, Hollywood and the movie itself. That opens up lanes of comedy that are a blast because you get to talk shit about everything."

"Male friendship is one of the central themes of Deadpool & Wolverine -- the question of how grown men connect, bond, communicate," he added. "And if you're Deadpool and Wolverine, sometimes it's through stabbings."

Deadpool & Wolverine Ended Up Hinging On Hugh Jackman

Deadpool 3 has been in the works for a long time now. Originally, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy couldn't quite crack the story. But, the duo ended up getting saved by Hugh Jackman deciding to come back as Wolverine. From there, everything actually started clicking into place. During a recent stop on the press tour, Reynolds recounted the story of how long it took to get to Deadpool & Wolverine. Apparently, Logan was the secret sauce that made the movie work. Kevin Feige heard that Jackman asked to come back and approved the idea almost immediately. (All he wanted was Wolverine in the yellow suit apparently.)

"I had met Kevin Feige six years ago to discuss this, and the first thing I said to him, 'I just want to make Wolverine and Deadpool together. I just want these two together on screen.' At the time, Kevin said, 'Forget it. It's never going to happen,'" Reynolds shared. "And I said, 'Okay, that's fine.' As we marched inexorably forward, Shawn and I were coming up with different pitches and different ideas, and we pitched Marvel everything you could imagine -- little movies, big movies, anything -- and it wasn't working out."

"And then one day, we were on our last pitch. We were about to say to Kevin Feige, 'I think we're going to walk away and we'll come back later, maybe in a couple years, when we have a better sense of things.' And Hugh happened to call me," The star continued. "Shawn and I just pivoted in the middle of our pitch to Kevin and said, 'Look, this thing just happened. It seems kind of miraculous. Hugh called me, what do you say?' And for some reason, Kevin immediately said yes."

Captain America: Brave New World Star Giancarlo Esposito Reacts To Trailer https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/captain-america-brave-new-world-star-giancarlo-esposito-reacts-to-trailer/ Sat, 13 Jul 2024 00:54:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak d0161c19-50b1-40de-89e3-0cf8bf293af3

Captain America: Brave New World is finally hitting theaters next year, and the film's first trailer hit the Internet earlier today. The footage shows Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson suiting up as the new Captain America while Star Wars and Indiana Jones legend Harrison Ford takes over as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross who is now the President of the United States. You can also glimpse Giancarlo Esposito in the trailer as a villain who was added to the production during reshoots. While some believe the Breaking Bad alum is playing George Washington "G.W." Bridge, his role has not been officially confirmed. However, Esposito did take to Twitter today to celebrate the trailer release.

"Honored to be part of the MCU, let's go! ???," Esposito wrote in response to the trailer. You can view the tweet below:

What Is Captain America: Brave New World About?

Captain America: Brave New World will follow the new adventures of Sam Wilson/Captain America (Anthony Mackie) following the events of The Falcon and Winter Soldier. The film will also star Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Shira Haas as Sabra. Xosha Roquemore, Seth Rollins, and Rosa Salazar have been cast in currently undisclosed roles. Giancarlo Esposito was also added to the cast as an unknown villain during reshoots.

Captain America: Brave New World wrapped principal photography before the WGA and SAG strikes last year, but the film's post-production was delayed. In December, Matthew Orton (Moon Knight) was hired to work on the new pages. Though reshoots once meant a film was performing poorly in test screenings, Marvel Studios has always scheduled additional photography to clarify questions that come up with test audiences.

"'Reshoots' was a bad word. 'Oh this movie's in reshoots, there must be a problem,'" Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously said of the process.

However, it's not exactly common for a film to add a new villain played by a big actor this late in the process. It seems likely that Esposito is eventually getting his own series, but is being introduced in Cap 4. We can only hope this is a positive for the production.

Stay tuned for more updates about Captain America: Brave New World, which is currently scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025.

The Fantastic Four's Paul Walter Hauser Teases Marvel Comics Research https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/the-fantastic-fours-paul-walter-hauser-teases-marvel-comics-research/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 23:55:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 7ee5a9b8-fcef-4a2a-a122-80a448506faa

Marvel Studios' long-awaited The Fantastic Four film is set for a 2025 release, and the movie has a stacked cast. It was announced earlier this year that the film's core four will be played by Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing). The film is also set to feature Ralph Ineson as Galactus, Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and John Malkovich and Natasha Lyonne in unknown roles. Turns out, Malkovich and Lyonne aren't the only stars whose parts are being kept under wraps. Emmy-winner Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird, Inside Out 2) is also in the film, and he recently spoke to Variety about prepping for his Marvel role.

"I have not dipped my toes into [Mike Batlan's Deliver Me From Nowhere] yet because before I do that, I'll be doing this film with Mark Wahlberg called Balls Up, and then after that, I'll be doing Fantastic Four for Marvel," Hauser shared. "So I'm mostly focused on those two right now. But once I start wrapping Balls Up in late summer, that's when I'm going to get heavy into Batlan and dive into that. If I prep too much now I'll probably try to cement choices and believe I have a handle on the character. And you never have a handle on the character until you basically wrap."

"Pre-production for me has been reading comic books and reading the screenplay," he added of The Fantastic Four. "A lot of it is assessing where I fit into that story and how to best utilize my time in it. You don't want to make choices or do things that are redundant in a film. It's important to know what the film is and what everyone's jobs are so that you're bringing your own unique take to something. That was incredibly important in BlacKkKlansmen. I was playing one of a half dozen racist idiots in the film, and you have to bring your own racist idiot to the table. It can't just be everybody else's. Whenever I'm in an ensemble, I'm trying to figure out how to be unique or specific without being distracting."

"It's so fun, man," Hauser added of reading comics. "I didn't really read Fantastic Four when I was a kid. I was very Batman-centric. But reading the Fantastic Four comics has been a blast. I love it."

In a new conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor revealed why he was initially hesitant to take the role.

"Don't think that didn't weigh in as I was deciding whether or not to take the job," Hauser explained. "That movie has not fully been nailed just yet ... But I really do think the combination of the screenplay, and the department heads that are working on the film, and that classy cast of really exciting actors - some of them known for a long time, and some of them having a moment right now - [make me feel that] this movie is special, and it was something I wanted to be a part of."

Captain America: Brave New World Removed Key Footage From CinemaCon https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/captain-america-4-footage-fight-scene-avengers-cinemacon/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 21:51:00 +0000 Brandon Davis bd2fc317-12c6-405c-9355-00a6e86e35bd

Captain America: Brave New World released its first official teaser trailer on Friday morning, drumming up quite a response from Marvel fans looking forward to the next adventure with Sam Wilson. As exciting as the new trailer is, offering a gritty, grounded tone which is immediately reminiscent of the widely acclaimed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, there is more footage which Marvel Studios has shown off which was removed from this trailer. Yes, an entire movie's worth of footage exists, but Marvel previously rolled out more footage from the fourth Cap movie and it only makes today's trailer that much more exciting.

Much of the footage in the first teaser trailer was featured at CinemaCon. However, much of what was featured at CinemaCon was not featured in the teaser. The biggest change is the removal of a line of dialogue from Harrison Ford's President Ross. In his meeting with Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson. the President of the United States tells him, "I want Captain America to help me rebuild the Avengers." This leads to a dialogue similar to that seen in the trailer, where Sam questions what will happen if he doesn't agree with the President's orders.

The footage at CinemaCon went on to see the President address a room full of soldiers and world leaders. During his speech, music started to play which triggered a Winter Soldier-like brainwashing to activate Isaiah Bradley as an assassin. A shortened version of the moment is featured in the teaser trailer. This leads to a shootout and brawl, culminating in Isaiah tossing a table across a room with ease and leaping out of the building through a glass window. Essentially, the footage shown as CinemaCon was from the same scenes as many early sequences in the now-released teaser trailer but thoroughly extended versions with almost entire scenes playing out rather than quickly edited bits for the trailer. The tone of the CinemaCon footage was similar to that of the teaser trailer.

The teaser trailer, however, did feature several new pieces of footage and reveals which were not included or hinted at back in April's CinemaCon presentation from Marvel Studios and Disney. Not only was the Red Hulk revealed for the first time in the final moments of the teaser trailer but the footage showed a major connection to 2021's Eternals movie. Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres, now officially suited up as the Falcon to fulfill his comic book destiny, are seen flying over the Indian Ocean. More specifically, they are engaged in a battle around the partially emerged corpse a Tiamut, the Celestial being which had its apocalyptic birth halted in Eternals. Furthermore, all of the clips with Giancarlo Esposito's new and mysterious character were not featured during CinemaCon, as his addition to the film is a product of reshoot efforts throughout 2024.

Captain America: Brave New World Trailer Sees MCU Finally Acknowledge Eternals https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/captain-america-brave-new-world-trailer-sees-mcu-finally-acknowledge-eternals/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 21:34:00 +0000 Brandon Davis 99b004f2-4ce9-4a8d-a6c7-a6d2ebe876ca

After years of Marvel fans and critics alike wondering if Tiamut's emergence in the middle of the ocean was ever going to be more than a digital blurb on a computer screen in an episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the answer is finally, "Yes!" The first official teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World tied Sam Wilson's first solo outing to the major moment from the climax of Eternals which the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has largely ignored. Rumors have long floated around social media that the fourth Captain America movie would incorporate the unborn Celestial with footage now revealing the being's partially-emerged corpse to truly be featured.

Late in the first official teaser for Captain America: Brave New World, Sam Wilson and Joaquin Torres are seen flying over the Indian Ocean. This is where Tiamut, the Celestial which was growing inside of the Earth until the Eternals prevented his world-ending emergence, has his rocky corpses sticking out of the ocean. Anthony Mackie's Sam and Danny Ramirez's Joaquin are seen zipping through the air around parts of Tiamut's corpse, seemingly engaged in some sort of dog fight in the air. It is unclear what type of material Tiamut turned into when life left the Celestial's body but an entire colony was made out of just the head of Celestial in space in the form of Knowhere. It is safe to assume there is a chance this material is highly valiuable.

If the makeup of Tiamut's body itself is not of great value, the body might also serve as a new landmass. Countries might be trying to literally plant flags in this new mass, especially as politics are playing a part in the new Cap movie and Harrison Ford's Thaddeus Ross is not only the Red Hulk but also the President of the United States.

Tiamut was mentioned in the corner of a website seen on Jen Walters' computer screen in an episode of She-Hulk. Other than that, this is the first time a Marvel Studios project has acknowledged the massive dead Celestial since Eternals released in November of 2021.

Captain America: Brave New World Trailer Teases Marvel's New Falcon https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-america-brave-new-world-trailer-new-falcon-joaquin-torres-mcu/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 21:06:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 3036c7b0-cea7-4ee8-beb5-75dc4b88406b

The first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World introduces fans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Falcon. The mantle of Falcon was previously held by Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), but as the ending of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier displayed, Sam Wilson is officially Captain America, replacing the retired Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Of course, this means the role of Falcon is up for grabs, but though fans may not have realized it at the time, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier already introduced the character who will pick up Sam Wilson's wings. Now, we get to see the Falcon soar with Captain America in the Brave New World trailer.

In the final moments of the Captain America: Brave New World trailer, Sam Wilson is shown in an aerial battle with some army jets. After he takes one out and passes through a set of clouds, he comes through the clouds next to another hero with matching wings. Though this person's identity is not revealed, we can assume that it's Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), who helped Sam out in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. If that isn't proof enough, Marvel has also officially confirmed Ramirez as Falcon in the Captain America: Brave New World synopsis.

"The trailer also features a few familiar faces: Danny Ramirez returns as former Air Force lieutenant Joaquin Torres, who's picked up Sam's old wings and taken on the role of Falcon," the synopsis reads.

After the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World wrapped up, the stinger showed off Harrison Ford's Red Hulk. All we see is a look at Red Hulk from the ground up, with his upper body and legs exposed through ripped clothing. Red Hulk appears to either swat Captain America's shield to the ground, or grab it mid-air and sling it to the ground. It's an impressive display for sure, and teases an inevitable confrontation between Red Hulk and Captain America.

"What is the Red Hulk?" Ford asked ComicBook during a chat in support of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny in 2023. After a brief explainer, Ford turned it around on his co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, blaming her for not telling him about the character's history. When asked if fans can expect to see Red Hulk's first live-action appearance in Brave New World, Ford added that "it may or it may not" be included.

Captain America: Brave New World will also star Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres / Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns / The Leader, Harrison Ford as General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Shira Haas as Sabra. Xosha Roquemore, Rosa Salazar, and Giancarlo Esposito have been cast in currently-unknown roles, with Esposito recently being added to the film in reshoots. Captain America: Brave New World is directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox, Luce), with a script from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman, as well as Dalan Musson and Matthew Orton.

"I am so happy to be in the MCU," Esposito told ComicBook in a recent exclusive interview. "I'm happy that you don't know what I'm doing there and I'm happy that I probably don't know what I'm doing there, but I'm happy to be there and you're going to see it soon."

Captain America: Brave New World is currently scheduled to be released exclusively in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Marvel Legends X-Men Comics Cable Figure Is Back In Stock https://comicbook.com/gear/news/marvel-legends-zabu-build-a-figure-wave-cable-amazon/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 18:45:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 39f957c3-fdd1-4bae-92f7-319b3db6e4e4 marvel-legends-zabu-baf-wave-2.jpg

Hasbro's first Marvel Legends fanstream for 2024 took place back in February with a Build-A-Figure wave that included seven action figures. Six out of those seven figures will include pieces that can be combined to form Zabu, the saber-toothed tiger of the Savage Land. Not surprisingly, the most popular figure in the wave was an X-Men comic book-inspired Cable figure decked out in his X-Suit. It's been sold out for ages, but it is currently available on backorder here on Amazon. We expect that it won't be long before it is listed as out of stock once again, so reserve one while you can. You won't be charged until it ships.

The figures in the Zabu wave include Red Widow, Ikaris, Black Winter (Thor), Superior Iron Man (no BAF piece), Wolfsbane, Cable, and Ka-zar. In addition to the BAF pieces, the figures will include accessories like alternate hands, weapons, and, in the case of Superior Iron Man, an alternate masked head. All figures are priced at $24.99 and you can find direct links below.

What is Deadpool & Wolverine about?

A synopsis for Deadpool & Wolverine made its way online back in January. It's pretty short, and of course, hasn't been confirmed by Marvel Studios. The synopsis reads, "That fu***** irresponsible hero Deadpool will change the history of the MCU with Wolverine!?"

"Deadpool, for me, is kind of like an anxiety-inducing tightrope walk," Reynolds told ComicBook.com in an interview last year. "I always think when I've got Deadpool just right, I'm speaking from experience from Deadpool 1 & 2, that I need to make it 30 to 40% percent better than it already it is. Even if I'm at the moment where I'm like, 'This is perfect, this moment!' Then, I stop and I go, 'Okay, this has to be 30% better than it already is.' It's a stressful thing to get right, or at least right as far as I'm concerned."

The third entry in the Deadpool trilogy reunites director Shawn Levy with Ryan Reynolds (Free Guy, The Adam Project) and Hugh Jackman (Real Steel). It's also a reunion for Jackman and Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige, whose first producing credit was 2000's X-Men. Reynolds co-wrote the script with Deadpool and Deadpool 2 writers Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese, and Zeb Wells (The Marvels, Robot Chicken) & Levy.

Alongside Reynolds and Jackman, the cast includes returning Deadpool stars Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapi?i? as Colossus of the X-Men, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Rob Delaney as the unpowered Peter. Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) also star.

Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26th.

Captain America: Brave New World Trailer May Have Revealed the Marvel Movie's True Villain https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-america-brave-new-world-trailer-red-hulk-leader-mcu-marvel-movie-villain/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 18:18:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 8e796578-9c27-4f4a-8e89-fa507558f26d

Captain America: Brave New World has a slick new trailer and the true villain of this movie may finally have emerged. While the Internet at large is dissecting that tease of Red Hulk, The Leader creeps into the light. Samuel Sterns is back after appearing in 2008's The Incredible Hulk. Tim Blake Nelson is back to bring the villain's machinations into clear view. Sam Wilson is firmly Captain America and dealing with changing times. (Also, some butting heads with President Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross, played by Harrison Ford.) While Cap is busy with all that, it seems like The Leader is pulling the strings from behind-the-curtain. Quite literally in the new trailer, Nelson's baddie is watching some of the action through a window.

Some eagle-eyed fans have noticed The Leader's presence in other portions of the Captain America: Brave New World trailer. Outside of the big meeting that President Ross set up, a telltale set of green hands holds a camera to capture that dramatic frenzy as Isaiah Bradley goes rogue. A bit of Nelson's voice over says, "Global power is shifting, you're just a pawn." But, a lot of folks are wondering, is he talking to Sam Wilson or to the President? There's a bunch of table-setting going on here and with San Diego Comic-Con mere weeks away, maybe some answers are forthcoming.

Earlier this summer, ScreenRant asked Nelson about The Leader and he teased a good explanation about what Samuel Sterns has been up to. "Very excited about it," the actor teased. "I'm headed to Atlanta tomorrow to continue working on that. It's been very exciting to bring back a character from 16 years ago and imagine how he has aged with me and how that has manifested. The Marvel team has come up with a really interesting explanation--revelation, I should say, as to what he's been up to for 16 years and why."

Captain America: Brave New World Resets The Table For The MCU

The Multiverse Saga sets the table for the conflicts on Earth.

The Multiverse Saga has meant a lot of changes for the MCU. Anthony Mackie says that Captain America: Brave New World reshuffles the board for our Earth-based heroes. While Deadpool & Wolverine joyride around the timeline, Sam Wilson and other street-level heroes are going to have their hands full. Mackie told EW that there are major hints about the future direction of those storylines in this movie. A lot of the world powers are getting antsy and that's not usually a good thing.

"This movie is a clear reset. It really reestablishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be," Mackie told the outlet. "I think with these movies, you're getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier."

"The title implies that there's a new, bigger enemy now; there's a new frontier that we have to conquer," Mackie shared. "From Captain America: The First Avenger to Endgame, the enemy was always good versus bad. Now that we've conquered that, where do we go from here? When the bad guys reappear, in what form are they reappearing? It is a new storyline with new characters, with new beliefs, and it creates a new idea of this new world that we're going into."

Ryan Reynolds' Aviation Gin Announces Super-Limited Wolverine Bottles https://comicbook.com/movies/news/ryan-reynolds-aviation-gin-announces-deadpool-wolverine/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 17:07:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame e4b6f2a9-48de-4925-ac1a-b81c3ff38cfc

It's been a few weeks since Ryan Reynolds's Aviation Gin revealed a first look at their Deadpool-branded bottles, rolled out on Father's Day. Now it's Wolverine's turn -- the Canadian mutant has taken over his own set of bottles, which are available in stores now for a limited time. According to the distillery, the bottles are only available to buy in Florida, California, Texas, New York, and Oregon -- and they'll run you about $25. The extra-limited nature, Aviation says, is basically just Reynolds' way of slighting Hugh Jackman and Wolverine one last time.

The actor is known for coming up with creative and hilarious skits to promote his brand of gin, sometimes even recruiting his Hollywood friends to partake in the madness. Last year's Father's Day introduced Aviation Gin's Vasectomy cocktail, and this year brings the Deadpool and Wolverine vibes to the party.

aviation-gin.jpg

Here's how Aviation explains it: "Encased in a sleek black glass and accented with yellow custom strip stamps and metallic details, the limited-edition bottle is filled with the same perfectly crisp, smooth Aviation American Gin consumers know and love. Serving as the ultimate collector's item, Deadpool and Wolverine fanatics alike can now stock their bar cart with this dynamic duo."

In Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). The film also stars Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox, and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, with the return of Deadpool alums Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapi?i? as Piotr Rasputin/Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Rob Delaney as Peter, and Lewis Tan as Shatterstar. Aaron Stanford is returning as Pyro from the X-Men film series, with Jennifer Garner rumored to return as Elektra Natchios.

Kevin Feige, Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D'Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey and Simon Kinberg serving as executive producers. Deadpool & Wolverine is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy. Deadpool & Wolverine will be released exclusively in theaters on July 26th.

Deadpool & Wolverine's New Teaser Footage Pumps Fans Up https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverines-teaser-footage-ryan-reynolds-hugh-jackman-tva-cassandra-nova-mcu/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 16:46:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 7f0ca891-17b6-4375-b2ac-4f93ae01a5d6

Deadpool & Wolverine rolled out another teaser today with brand-new footage. In the new clip, Wade Wilson is still trying to convince Logan to team-up. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman's chemistry is off the charts during these exchanges. In the bar from the other trailers, Deadpool needles Wolverine about his loner schtick. As the two bicker, some shots of Dogpool licking Wade's face happen along with other void footage. Cassandra Nova, the movie's villain says that "boys are so silly." Even the Time Variance Authority's Agent Paradox is in a jubilant mood as the clip continues. There's just a lot of fun being teased during these short 22 minutes.

Adding to the cheeky nature of Deadpool & Wolverine's new teaser is the inclusion of Toni Basil's "Mickey" as the music. (Fun times with 1982 number one pop hits!) Deadpool saying, "Let's give 'em what they came for" feels meta right now with all the various rumors swirling around this film. They talk about Wade Wilson's toupee situation and Logan laughs that everyone can tell it's a hairpiece. Things are basically all smiles in this new clip and real life for these best friends. Deadpool & Wolverine is in the midst of a massive worldwide tour that continues to charm MCU fans who are lucky enough to be in attendance.

As the promotional tour rolls on, Kevin Feige has had some things to say about Deadpool & Wolverine. The MCU architect actually stopped by The Official Marvel Podcast to talk about getting all that Deadpool goodness into this movie. The first reactions from fans who have seen about 30 minutes of the movie say that it keeps the irreverent tone that characterized the first two entries. "We're very proud of it. The entire thing is just as gory and just as foul-mouthed and just as R-Rated as you would expect, but it is also extremely endearing and emotional," Feige smirked. "I think people are going to leave excited to go and watch it again."

"We had nothing to do with the first two extremely successful Deadpool movies. Marvel Studios had nothing to do with those," Feige continued. "So, in a way, we were playing on Ryan's turf. We were playing on somebody else's sandbox. The other way is that they were coming into our sandbox. We wanted to make it unique with the blending of those styles.

He would also praise the entire creative team"It was really, really nice the way Shawn Levy, our director, and Ryan were able to come in and embrace the best of what Ryan had pioneered with Deadpool and what Hugh had pioneered on those early X-Men films and bringing them in a very irreverent way, which people are already starting to piece together based on the trailers and the presence of the Time Variance Authority into our sandbox."

Captain America: Brave New World: Marvel Reveals Major Connection to Black Widow https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-america-brave-new-world-marvel-black-widow-connection-sabra-mcu/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 16:24:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame 27ccc01d-8231-497c-9d36-c75a2947c828

With the release of the trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, audiences got confirmation that Shira Haas had joined the cast as Ruth Bat-Seraph, better known in the comics as the Israeli superhero Sabra. According to Marvel, the Ruth in Captain America: Brave New World will be a former Black Widow, and now a high-ranking U.S. government official who has the trust of President Ross (Harrison Ford). The trailer provided fans with a first look at Sabra, although there's not much context for what her role is in the movie.

Created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema, Sabra first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #250, where she actually squared off with the big green guy (something that might have relevance given her close relationship to the Red Hulk in the movie). You can see a first-look screenshot below (via Cosmic Marvel):

(Photo: Marvel)

How much of her comic book persona will carry over to the film is hard to say. Certainly as a first-look, it seems like she is mostly a government officer, rather than a superhero, although given that the President himself is hiding super powers in the movie, it seems pretty likely other members of his staff could do the same. In the comics, she is a member of the Israeli super-soldier program, giving her more or less the same power set as Captain America.

It is also unclear how or if Marvel and Disney will tackle the first appearance of a Mossad-trained Israeli super-soldier with a key role in U.S. government in their huge tentpole blockbuster. There were rumors that the character had been cut from the movie to avoid any controversy related to the ongoing conflict in Palestine, but obviously that isn't true.

Captain America: Brave New World is currently scheduled to be released exclusively in theaters on February 14, 2025.

Captain America: Brave New World Trailer Addresses Thunderbolt Ross Recasting https://comicbook.com/movies/news/captain-america-brave-new-world-trailer-thunderbolt-ross-recasting-harrison-ford-mcu/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 15:48:00 +0000 Timothy Adams 11f2eab7-3873-4805-9397-2311e111e0dc

Marvel's recasting of Thunderbolt Ross is addressed in the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. Harrison Ford is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, taking over for the late William Hurt. Ross is one of the central figures in Captain America: Brave New World, acting opposite Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson. But what's at the top of everyone's mind is getting a look at Red Hulk, and while the Captain America: Brave New World teaser trailer does show Red Hulk, it also addresses the recasting that took place.

One of the opening scenes in the Captain America: Brave New World trailer features Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson speaking to Harrison Ford's Thaddeus Ross. "I have to admit, I'm still getting used to the new look," Sam says, to which Thaddeus replies, "They said lose the mustache or lose the election." The new look that Sam is referring to is Harrison Ford taking on the role of the General, who is the current President of the United States. This isn't the first time the MCU has cheekily addressed a recasting, with one example being Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard as James "Rhodey" Rhodes.

First look at Harrison Ford as Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World

Marvel Studios Finally Acknowledges Eternals in Sneaky Captain America 4 Trailer Scene https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/marvel-studios-acknowledges-eternals-sneaky-captain-america-brave-new-world-trailer/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 14:19:00 +0000 Liam Crowley f2dbc15c-4f24-4e67-a5c9-82cfea861976

Captain America: Brave New World is bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe together like its the Infinity Saga. The first teaser trailer for the Anthony Mackie-led fourquel showcases the aforementioned leading man in his star-spangled suit, as Mackie's Sam Wilson has embraced the stars and stripes since 2021's The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Wilson now has to deal with a familiar face with a "new look," Harrison Ford's Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Ross and Wilson previously butted heads during Captain America: Civil War, as Ross pushed for the Sokovia Accords while Wilson took the side of Steve Rogers. In Brave New World, Ross is attempting to get on the same page as Wilson again by integrating Captain America back into the military.

Chaos ensues from there, as the White House is attacked and flashes of action follow. Among those quick glimpses is Wilson soaring past a massive rocky structure, which eagle-eyed MCU fans while recognize as a major monument.

Captain America 4 Brings in Eternals's Tiamut

The half-risen Celestial has finally been acknowledged.

The Captain America: Brave New World teaser poster features the first glimpse of Tiamut since the Earth-born Celestial erupted out of the Earth's surface in 2021's Eternals. Beyond that, this is the first big screen acknowledgement of the events of Eternals outside of the Eternals film itself.

The long-running rumor about Captain America: Brave New World is that Tiamut will be a point of contention for global superpowers, as countries from across the world will attempt to claim it and its resources. Among those resources will supposedly be adamantium, the fictional metal from Marvel Comics that makes up Wolverine's skeleton.

In Eternals, the Celestial known as Arishem the Judge revealed that planets within the Marvel Cinematic Universe are essentially cocoons for Celestials themselves, and life helps them be born. Following the repopulation that Earth experienced after Avengers: Endgame brought back the missing half of the universe, Arishem declared that Earth was ready to give birth to its Celestial, Tiamut. Tiamut began to break out from the Earth's crust but the Eternals stopped the birth before it could be complete, resulting in Tiamut's giant hand and face being the only things visible.

In the many MCU films since Eternals, none had acknowledged that a massive hand and face had grown out of the Earth. Now, it appears that Tiamut and the events of Eternals will be a central plot point for Wilson's first feature film adventure as the star-spangled man.

Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14th, 2025.

Captain America: Brave New World Gets an Ominous Red Hulk Teaser Poster https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/captain-america-brave-new-world-ominous-red-hulk-teaser-poster-harrison-ford-anthony-mackie/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 13:56:00 +0000 Liam Crowley 0b7a0541-40e7-4ecd-be31-a89a7841341d

Captain America: Brave New World represents a lot of firsts. It is the first installment in the Captain America franchise since 2016. It is the first Captain America movie without Chris Evans's Steve Rogers. It is Anthony Mackie's first time leading a Marvel Studios feature film. It is also the first time Harrison Ford will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following the passing of William Hurt, Marvel Studios cast Ford in the role of Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Hurt had played the role in five MCU films. Marvel Studios had big plans for Ross going into the post-Infinity Saga which is what prompted the recast, and the long rumored endgame for the character was to bring his red rage monster to life.

New Captain America 4 Poster Teases Red Hulk

Red Hulk is coming.

Paired with its official teaser trailer, Marvel Studios has unveiled the first teaser poster for Captain America: Brave New World. The poster features the classic Captain America shield alongside a massive red hand encasing it. This hand belongs to Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross's (Harrison Ford) red rage monster alter ego, the Red Hulk.

You can check out the poster below...

"I thought, 'Everybody else seems to be having a great time.' I watch all these terrific actors having a good time," Ford said when asked what prompted him to join the MCU. "I like doing something different to what I've ever done and pleasing people with it. So I'll try a piece of that."

Captain America: Brave New World follows up on the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. That series, the second live-action Marvel Studios television production, told the tale of Sam Wilson's assimilation into the Captain America mantle, one which was rockier than the ending of Avengers: Endgame suggested. Despite Steve Rogers enthusiastically handing Wilson the shield, Wilson resisted the role, turning over the vibranium frisbee to the government and remaining in his role as the Falcon.

The government immediately turned and brought a new face in to take on the mantle, Wyatt Russell's John Walker, a move that left Wilson shocked and betrayed. As all parties attempted to take down the villainous Flag Smashers, Walker's true colors would be revealed, as he brought dishonor to the Stars and Stripes by using Cap's shield as a weapon. From that moment, Wilson decided to step up, embracing the shield and donning a new vibranium-weave suit as he and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) took the fight to the Flag Smashers in New York City.

Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on February 14th, 2025.

Red Hulk has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. The first Captain America film starring Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson as the Sentinel of Liberty lands in theaters next year, but Marvel Studios is giving fans an early look at the blockbuster movie. Harrison Ford steps into the role of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross / Red Hulk, taking over for the late William Hurt. There's been an expectation that Ford's Ross would be transformed into Red Hulk in Brave New World, but aside from merchandise and marketing, fans haven't seen what Red Hulk will look like. Thankfully, the final moments of the trailer gave fans a quick look.

Captain America is about to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On Thursday, Marvel Studios released the first teaser trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, the next live-action film in Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Brave New World is centered around Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), who officially became Captain America at the very end of the first season of the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Now, Brave New World will follow Sam on his first cinematic solo adventure as Captain America, which is sure to travel down some interesting paths.

"It kind of brought my Marvel experience full circle because we shot in D.C. at the same hotel that we shot 'Winter Soldier' at," Mackie said of the film in a previous interview with The Wrap. "One of my first Marvel scenes was me sitting at a table talking to the senator and me and Chris [Evans] and Scarlett [ Johansson] kidnapping him and we go back and we stay at the same hotel and we shot at that same area. So in that regard, it was really emotional to think how far my character has come and where he is now after the 10 years that I've been in the MCU."

Deadpool & Wolverine: Kevin Feige Says Set Photo Leaks Were Worth It https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-kevin-feige-set-photo-leaks/ Fri, 12 Jul 2024 02:35:00 +0000 Jenna Anderson c2eda5bc-2bc6-4aa7-82a2-56a4bc364136

Deadpool & Wolverine is right around the corner, finally bringing the fan-favorite Marvel movie series into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new threequel has already broken the Internet multiple times over prior to its release, including when the first look at Hugh Jackman's new comic-accurate Wolverine costume was unveiled when the project filmed some scenes outdoors. That filmmaking tactic broke a bit of Marvel Studios formula and resulted in a small handful of details leaking online -- but according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, it was worth the risk. In a recent interview with Variety, Feige did admit that Deadpool & Wolverine's exterior shoots were something of a risk, one that ultimately paid off to get the film's realistic locations.

"That was very important to us," Feige explained. "We didn't want this to be a green screen box for all of the locations. We want it to be out in the real world, and that always comes with potential tradeoffs. We were in a lot of secure locations and places that were far away from prying eyes -- with the exception of drones. It was a new experience for me to have paparazzi drones flying over flying over set. Sometimes things look cool in a behind-the-scenes photo, but most often, they don't look great. I think people are savvy enough over the years to know that's not what it will look like in the movie. That being said, Wolverine in that yellow outfit looks cool from any angle, drone or shot through the trees."

Is Deadpool & Wolverine Set in the MCU?

While both Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool originated in the former Fox universe, the trailers for Deadpool & Wolverine have clearly indicated that the characters will be hopping over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview last October, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy confirmed that the project is definitely set in the MCU.

"I'm so wary of giving anything away because I've learned the hard way that even with a few titles - like any Marvel title - everything and anything you say can lead to not only rumors but misinformation. I'll just say this: It's very much part of the MCU, what a privilege, what a wealth of resources and knowledge."

What Is Deadpool & Wolverine About?

Ryan Reynolds Teases Surprise Deadpool & Wolverine Cameos: "We're Hiding a Lot" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/marvel-deadpool-wolverine-cameos-spoilers-ryan-reynolds/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 20:00:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo e9cbf97b-c21f-4a7c-ba15-9d6c328895d3

The Merc with a Mouth may be a chatterbox, but Ryan Reynolds is tight-lipped about Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor and producer has been overseas promoting the Marvel Studios movie with co-star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy, the trio that teamed for the celebrity cameo-filled Free Guy in 2021. Like that movie -- which had everything from Hulk hands and Captain America's shield to the star-spangled Avenger himself, MCU alum Chris Evans -- Deadpool & Wolverine is holding back its biggest surprises until it hits theaters July 26th.

"We wish we could show you the whole movie, but Marvel won't let us do that. We have to wait a couple more weeks," Levy said when introducing a 35-minute sneak peek during a recent fan event in Berlin.

The spoiler-free first reactions to the preview were overwhelmingly positive, with fans who attended the screening revealing that the trailers released so far have mostly contained footage from the film's first half hour. (Deadpool & Wolverine has a runtime clocking in just over two hours, leaving plenty of time for more surprises in what is the longest Deadpool movie yet.)

"The honest truth is we're hiding a lot, which is why we're showing this amount of footage," Reynolds teased. "There's kind of an impossible amount of surprises that, in a couple of weeks, we're so excited to unleash."

Official trailers have already confirmed that Sabretooth and Toad from 2000's X-Men are among the misfit mutants assembled by Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) at her base fashioned from a giant-sized Ant-Man corpse in the Void -- effectively a multiversal junkyard for timelines pruned by the Time Variance Authority (as seen in Loki) -- along with Aaron Stanford's Pyro, back for the first time in nearly 20 years. Other characters glimpsed in promo material include Lady Deathstrike (from 2003's X2: X-Men United), Juggernaut (from 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand), and Azazel (from 2011's X-Men: First Class).

Levy has acknowledged that "there's a lot of characters" in Deadpool & Wolverine, which sees the dysfunctional duo of Wade Wilson (Reynolds) and Logan (Jackman) team up to save a universe (or a few) on a multiverse adventure.

"We didn't want any of the cameos or characters to be the story of the movie," Levy previously told EW. "But they are peppered in throughout. There's a lot of characters. The internet is a delight of rumors about the multitude of character cameos that are in this movie. Some rumors are true, some are way off base."

Reynolds and Jackman star alongside returning Deadpool cast members Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Rob Delaney, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, and Stefan Kapi?i?; Succession star Matthew Macfadyen joins the MCU as TVA Agent Paradox, with The Crown's Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova. Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine is playing only in theaters July 26th.

Marvel To Reveal X-Men '97 Season 2, Spider-Man, Black Panther Animated Series First Looks at D23 https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvel-x-men-97-season-2-spider-man-black-panther-d23-animated-series-first-looks/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 19:06:00 +0000 Aaron Perine bd3a372b-76c4-405a-b1bb-3d906949772a

Marvel is rolling out new looks at X-Men '97, Spider-Man and more animated favorites at D23. Marvel Television broke down what shows are making the trek to Anaheim this year. The "Ultimate Disney Fan Event" will play host to Eyes of Wakanda, What If...? Season 3 and even more surprises. People were expecting news about X-Men '97 Season 2 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, so it's nice to see those two titles getting some shine. One would have to expect Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum will be in the house for some of these announcements and seeing the sneak previews.

"We are thrilled for fans of all ages to join us in Anaheim next month for what will truly be the ultimate Disney fan experience," Michael Vargo, head of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club said in a statement. "This year, D23 has been reimagined to showcase even more of what they love from across the worlds of Disney. Guests will enjoy the incredible programming and show floor offerings we have in store at the Anaheim Convention Center, where our exceptional storytelling and experiences will come to life through spectacular entertainment with many of the creative masterminds behind the magic."

Eyes Of Wakanda Tackles The MCU

Black Panther's new show is a biggie.

For MCU obsessives, you're going to want to keep a close eye on Eyes of Wakanda. The Black Panther animated series is more closely related to the movies than any of the other shows mentioned here. Brad Winderbaum stopped by The Official Marvel Podcast to talk about a bunch of what Marvel Television has coming. So, the future is bright for what the studio has planned for the small screen.

"Eyes of Wakanda, more than any other show we're doing in animation, ties directly into the MCU," Winderbaum explained of the Black Panther spinoff. "This is a story about Wakandan history. It's produced by Ryan Coogler and directed by Todd Harris who is one of our longtime storyboard artists who I first met when he designed the Hulk vs. Thor fight in Ragnarok."

"It's an awesome show. The action is insane and the storytelling is fantastic. It's both about the history of Wakanda, but also expands into the greater MCU at different time periods," the executive added. "If you're a fan of the movies, I think this show is going to be a real treat."

Deadpool & Wolverine: First Reactions Have Marvel Fans "In Disbelief" https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/deadpool-wolverine-first-reactions-have-marvel-fans-in-disbelief/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 17:17:00 +0000 Jamie Jirak 0dbef206-419e-4c80-90ef-8e3d133c59a6

Deadpool & Wolverine is finally heading to theaters this month, and Marvel fans can't wait to see Deadpool/Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) team up with Wolverine/Logan (Hugh Jackman). There has been so much speculation, teases, and rumors about the film in recent months, but we finally have an idea of how some folks are responding to the film. 35 minutes of the movie was screened this week during a promotional tour in Shanghai, China. Reynolds and Jackman were joined by director Shawn Levy who introduced the footage to the crowd. Now, some of the audience members have taken to social media to share their reactions to the footage.

"No joke, I'm struggling to find any negatives," @hzjoe03 wrote. "Despite the Fox merger, this feels like a straight-up continuation from Deadpool 2 story and tone-wise. Nothing has been toned back, all the comedy hit, and the action was beautiful. Saw lots of you had a problem with the colour grading in trailers, but on screen it's so much better and the suits are absolutely gorgeous."

"The trailers haven't given much away at all, a majority of the footage you've seen happens in the first 30 mins or so and even then, a lot of that 30 minutes were things I didn't expect at all," he added.

"The timeline might cook me for that but Shawn Levy actually got that sauce oh my god," @Nacht_Silver added. I am in disbelief."

"Only in 40 Mins he cooked so much," @itsokloll replied. "The other 90 Mins is Gon send me in Heaven."

"Pretty fun, cool opening credits," @whenbatmenfly shared.

"Just wow! From the gritty yet groovy opening scene to the nail-biting montage of what's to come, Marvel Studios' latest offering overflows with in-your-face humor, action-packed sequences, and eye-popping visuals. While its R-16 rating might be too soft or too strong for some, the dynamic pairing of #Deadpool and #Wolverine is a special treat for fans and casual viewers alike, offering a fresh and fierce twist amidst the usual superhero flicks," @cinemabravoph wrote.

Marvel Star Kathryn Hahn Reveals New Agatha All Along Footage https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/marvel-agatha-all-along-kathryn-hahn-joe-locke-mcu-billy-footage/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 16:14:00 +0000 Aaron Perine ebbdf430-b4a1-4bd4-9062-6b32fc9f9f75

Agatha All Along revealed some new footage during Kathryn Hahn's interview with Joe Locke. The WandaVision star subbed-in for Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night. As she introduced her Agatha All Along co-star, the standard trailer played with a couple more moments from his mystery teen character. (Most Marvel fans suspect he'll be playing Billy Kaplan in the new show.) Locke's character lays out that the Witches' Road that Agatha Harkness is traveling in the Disney+ series will grant those who complete it, "what they're missing." But, the young boy also cautions that it's dangerous and few survive this journey. The Heartstopper alum has been sworn to secrecy across this entire process.

Locke joked with Hahn that he didn't know who his character was supposed to be until the fourth audition for the role. "It was unnamed character on untitled Marvel project," he quipped. That level of secrecy is pretty normal for the MCU before details become public. Agatha All Along has been gestating for a while. But, Marvel fans are excited for both a Halloween adventure and a follow-up to the social media phenomenon of WandaVision. For Locke, the sooner he gets to discuss some of this show out loud, the better. The young actor has been holding secrets and it's almost time to get this show on the road. Check out their interview and the footage right here!

With so much time passed since WandaVision, people have been clamoring for more information about this series. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum recently teased the series on The Official Marvel Podcast. The executive says things were going to be scary, and judging by that trailer, there are some definitive frights coming in Agatha All Along.

"Agatha is really fun, but it's really scary and it gets quite dramatic," Winderbaum teased. "She's an amazing anti-hero and that show, it lures you in with the fun of Halloween. And before you know it you're crying. I'll put it to you that way: It's a Marvel brand of scary. It's a Halloween show. There are deadly stakes in this series. It's a fun ride, but it's a dangerous one."

Marvel says, "In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness (Hahn) finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen (Joe Locke) helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches' Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they're missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road."

Agatha All Along Star Kathryn Hahn Sings a Recap of the Entire Marvel Cinematic Universe https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/agatha-all-along-kathryn-hahn-marvel-universe-recap-song-mcu/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 14:57:00 +0000 Timothy Adams a2b9ab99-4869-4f5d-89b8-d4aeae88c2f2

Kathryn Hahn is using the power of song to get viewers of Agatha All Along caught up on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Agatha All Along is the first Marvel show to stream on Disney+ in 2024, and is a spinoff of WandaVision, Marvel's first Disney+ streaming series. It stars Kathryn Hahn as the evil witch Agatha Harkness, who was the primary antagonist of WandaVision. After being stuck in Westview by a Scarlet Witch spell, Agatha All Along will follow Hahn's titular character while she embarks on a new journey. If you're worried about the MCU's complicated history, don't fret, as Agatha All Along's featured star has a song that will get you caught up.

Jimmy Kimmel Live has had Kathryn Hahn on all week as a special guest host, and she ended her opening monologue Wednesday night with a bit on the MCU. While revealing her Agatha All Along co-star Joe Locke has a guest, Hahn mentioned how people keep asking her if they need to watch every single Marvel movie and TV show before tuning into Agatha All Along. While the answer is "no," if you do want the MCU's history, she's going to sing a song recapping all of the important events.

Kathryn Hahn sings a song recapping the MCU

Kathryn Hahn's song opens with a verse on Iron Man and the Avengers; specifically, how buff and bangable/bankable Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk are. "A cinematic team of heroes spread across the galaxy. Vin Diesel got paid millions just to voice a frig-gin talking tree," she sings. "They fought so many villains who were mean and diabolical. One was colored purple with a chin that looked like testicles."

Helping the Agatha All Along star with vocals is a group of singers dressed as Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Captain America, and Scarlet Witch. The MCU history song ends with Hahn plugging Agatha All Along, and the corporate synergy of promoting the Marvel show on ABC, which all fall under the Disney corporate umbrella.

Marvel's Ultimates Recruit a Young Avenger to Their Roster https://comicbook.com/comics/news/marvel-ultimates-young-avenger-america-chavez-ultimate-universe/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 12:56:00 +0000 Timothy Adams d988c952-1b51-448d-a317-33a76fece6d8

A member of the Young Avengers is the newest Marvel hero to join The Ultimates. The Ultimate Universe version of Earth's Mightiest Heroes are back in a new ongoing series, but this is not the same Ultimate Universe that longtime Marvel fans are used to. The Maker, an evil version of Reed Richards, has traveled back in time to create his ideal world by stopping heroes from reaching their true destinies. However, a group of superheroes led by Iron Lad (Tony Stark) have stepped up as a resistance. Though their numbers are small, the Ultimates are quickly adding to their ranks, and their newest recruit is another familiar face.

*WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for The Ultimates #2. Continue reading at your own risk!

The Ultimates #2 comes from the creative team of Deniz Camp, Juan Frigeri, Federico Blee, and VC's Travis Lanham. It focuses on the Ultimates storming the White House for a showdown against Midas. There are flashback scenes that feature Tony Stark giving Captain America a holographic history lesson on the United States of the Ultimate Universe. We get quick cameos of recognizable Marvel characters like Galactus meeting Maker, mutants protesting at the Capitol for equality, Iron Man and War Machine fighting Omega Red, a Roxxon plant polluting the Savage Land, Punisher and his followers, and more.

But it's what is in the lower levels of the White House that has the Ultimates' attention. When Iron Lad blasts the floor, Midas (wearing Howard Stark's original Iron Man armor) and the Ultimates fall below. It's here that we discover Midas is keeping a superhero captive and using her energy to power the country. Midas has bathed in her cosmic radiation for an hour per day, and she's never spoken a word during her imprisonment. We don't know her identity, but she's held inside a device and we can see the radiation creating the shape of a star. And there's one superhero who can create energy bursts in the shape of a star: America Chavez. To celebrate America Chavez's Ultimates debut, Marvel released a spoiler cover for Issue #2 by artist Inhyuk Lee.

How The Ultimates rescue America Chavez

As Midas beats and pounds on Captain America, Steve Rogers keeps repeating how he has to save America. This has a double meaning: yes, he wants to save America from Maker's evil council and turn it back into the country it was always destined to be. But saving America Chavez is also the mission that the Ultimates are undertaking. Just as it appears that Midas is getting the upper hand, Wasp blasts the controls of the device holding America Chavez. Captain America then breaks Midas' neck with his shield.

"A great injustice was done to you, but things will be better now," Captain America tells America Chavez. "Can you remember your name?" As the Ultimates walk away on the White House front lawn, the issue ends with America Chavez weakly stating, "America..."

The question remaining is will America Chavez take up the Ultimates' cause and join them? Or will she be an ally that comes and goes throughout this first year of The Ultimates series? The heroes only have 16 months before Maker emerges to reclaim what is being taken from him.

Marvel's X-Men #1 Has a Secret Page Teasing New Villains https://comicbook.com/comics/news/marvel-x-men-1-new-villains-orchis-fourth-school-3k/ Thu, 11 Jul 2024 00:55:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo bd9b13ad-e3c2-4893-931c-3cb9ae5c90ea

No longer are mutants the next step in human evolution. This week's X-Men #1, the first title in Marvel's X-Men: From the Ashes relaunch, sees Cyclops leading a new mutant strike team -- Beast, Psylocke, Magik, Temper, Kid Omega, and Juggernaut -- under Magneto. With Professor X imprisoned for crimes against humanity and Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters refitted into Graymalkin Prison, Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman's X-Men have set up shop in The Factory: an Alaska-based former Sentinel factory that manufactured the killer robots for the anti-mutant organization Orchis.

Spoilers for X-Men #1. The 34-page issue, "Fire-Baptized Species," sends the X-Men to Santo Marco after Cerebro detects six new mutants. There they battle an X-branded Orchis remnant, Fourth School, which was formed after the artificial intelligence-powered Nimrod and Omega Sentinel betrayed the human parts of Orchis in Rise of the Powers of X.

x-men-1-recap-spoilers.jpg

Fourth School is "a mishmash of Orchis science-propaganda and half-baked John Sublime U-Men memes," according to Juggernaut, referring to an ancient sentient bacteria that propagated the idea of a "Third Species" during the Grant Morrison-penned New X-Men in the early 2000s. Sublime's self-mutated U-Men utilized cosmetic-gene surgery to turn humans into mutants, calling this third species "Homo Perfectus."

The Orchis Fourth School cell believes that the "Third Species" predicted by Sublime is actually A.I. -- and so they must become the Fourth Species, a mix of human, A.I., and mutant. "The good news is that they no longer hate us," Temper says. "The bad news is that they want to become us by consuming us."

It turns out the new mutants are adults -- something that should be impossible because the mutant X-gene activates at puberty. And it's even more impossible that six X-genes would activate all at once in adults. Kid Omega's telepathic powers confirm that they're "real mutants" and not "Frankenstein graft-jobs," only for Fourth School's mutants to use their own powers against the X-Men.

x-men-1-3k.png

Watching from off-panel is a shadowy group known only as 3K, which turned this sextet of spies and terrorists into man-made mutants. Back in Alaska, Cyclops hands over a severed arm for Beast to investigate how six adult Orchis Fourth School agents manifested active X-genes at the same time, and who might be behind the mysterious mutants.

While that's a question for upcoming issues, X-Men #1 ends with an exclusive stinger scene that is accessible only by QR code. Readers who scan the code are taken to a bonus scene not included in the issue itself (which you can see below), and it shows the mystery members of 3K at a table marked with an "X": The Zealot, The Doctor and her son, The Means, and The Chairman. And their "Great Work" has only just begun.

x-men-1-3k.png

"Some mutants have reintegrated back into the human world. X-Men isn't about those mutants," MacKay wrote in an issue-ending letter page. "Ours are the ones who can't, won't, go back. Former mutant terrorists, villains, and assassins, our misfit X-Men have built a home and a base from the ruins of the previous age. Let the world hate and fear the X-Men. If the world has a problem, the world knows where to find them: a home built on the bones of shattered Sentinels, marked with an X. The dream is dead, and so new dreams rise."

MacKay added: "But among those dreams, like a shark in a shoal, is a nightmare: one called 3K."

Marvel's X-Men #1 is on stands now.

Bigfoot is hanging on to this week's Top 10 after an announcement from Fox brought a book to the spotlight once more. In Reign II, Kaare Andrews revisits Spider-Man's future, leading to a new critical cover appearance. Nova also takes a spot in our top ten because of another key to chase. A DC team is still the favored rumor to appear opposite Superman in his upcoming film, and Doom continues his steady popularity streak. Deadpool & Wolverine is just around the corner, and three books relate to the heroes this week. A super sneaky Moon Knight variant has been making waves in the aftermarket, and a new rumor about Captain America: Brave New World brings back an old fan-favorite cover!

Top 10 Comic Books Rising in Value for the Week of 07/08/24

1: X-FORCE Vol.1 #1 | Marvel | June 1991: While anticipation for Deadpool & Wolverine is building towards the release date, Captain America: Brave New World has been putting out tons of news/rumors. This past week, a rumor was released about Giancarlo Esposito's character in the film. In case you missed it, the actor was cast late, and leaked set photos of the reshoots showed Esposito in what looked like a military/mercenary outfit. Fans were trying to pinpoint who the actor could be playing but could not find an answer. That is until a known insider tweeted that it was the character George Washington "G.W." Bridge. This character was a mercenary in a group called the Wild Pack, led by Cable. He later went on to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. Does this mean Esposito will be with the MCU for more than just this movie? Who knows. The only thing we know for certain is that the rumor caused a huge spike in interest for this cover (and all its card variants!). We tracked 26 copies sold, at a 7-day growth trend of 269%. This number is conservative, as we have broken down the book into separate entries for each card variant. This variant had a high sale of $75 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $12.

2: MOON KNIGHT: FIST OF KHONSHU #0 - Alessandro Cappuccio - Secret (1 per store) | Marvel | July 2024: It seems that surprise variants have been the trend in comics for 2024. Marvel's secret one-per-store secret variants have always been extremely popular and done well in the aftermarket. Moon Knight is no exception. The new Moon Knight series is a highly anticipated book, and this prequel has drawn many eyes to it. However, no one expected a secret variant to be released under the radar. It immediately picked up speed and value, making it one of the best-selling books in the aftermarket this past week! We tracked it at a high sale of $48 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $44.

3: THE NEW MUTANTS #98 - Rob Liefeld - Regular | Marvel | February 1991: It seems like Deadpool & Wolverine has been the talk of the MCU for the past year... and it's true! Since this is the only film being released by Marvel this year, it has generated a ton of buzz. The rumor is that Deadpool will "reset" the MCU in a major way, paving the path for a new plan in the cinematic universe. If Deadpool really is "Marvel Jesus," then this book will be the holy grail of his legend. Many are counting on this movie putting this book out of reach and grabbing it before the fire gets too hot! We tracked it at a high sale of $1,059 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $353.

4: WOLVERINE #88 - Direct Edition - Deluxe - $1.95 Price | Marvel | December 1994: Have you heard? Deadpool & Wolverine's release date is right around the corner. Early ticket sales reports show that it is on a trajectory to break many records in a short couple of weeks. Fans are rushing out to pick up iconic covers of the duo, and this book is one of the best! It depicts the first meeting and fight between Deadpool & Wolverine, sporting a phenomenal cover. The $1.95 price variant has been a top pick for collectors these past few weeks! We tracked it at a high sale of $425 for CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $66.

5: DOOM #1 - Sanford Greene - Regular | Marvel | May 2024: Doom continues to trend between our Top 10 and our Runner-Ups! Doom's popularity as a character sent this book flying on the aftermarket. However, what fueled its staying power is the subtle, almost hidden tribute to late rapper MF Doom. The text in the first pages of the issue is directly pulled from the late rapper's lyrics. It's been nearly two months, and this book is still trending strongly. We tracked it at a high sale of $120 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $38.

6: X-MEN #11 | Marvel | August 1992: Jim Lee stands tall as one of the most popular comic book artists of all time. Recently, the artist announced that he would open his commissions again after a 15-year hiatus. While the pricing may have surprised many in the community, it did shine a light back on the renowned artist. Jim Lee and Wolverine fans rushed to the aftermarket to pick up iconic pieces of his work. The prices on this book are extremely reasonable for such an iconic comic book cover. We tracked it at a high sale of $95 for a CGC 9.8 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $10.

7: THE AUTHORITY #1 | DC | March 1999: The Authority is still a popular fan theory in the aftermarket. Speculation is that The Authority would debut in James Gunn's upcoming film, Superman. The Engineer has already been cast and confirmed to be in the film. In addition, more and more heroes are popping up in the film. This past week, we saw a leak of a set photo featuring Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl. With so many additional heroes making their appearance, the rumors that Superman will be facing a team of adversaries instead of a singular villain are sounding more reasonable. We tracked it at a high sale of $130 for a CGC 9.6 copy and a current NM raw FMV at $43.

8: ANNIHILATION 2099 #1 - Pete Woods - First Appearance (1:25) | Marvel | July 2024: All eyes are on the MCU as we prepare for the only MCU film of the year to debut later this month. Even though we only received one movie this year, other projects have continued to make progress. In early March, Marvel confirmed that they were still working on the Nova project. There isn't much known about this project, and nearly all Nova keys were hot on the aftermarket at some point this past year. This week, it looks like fans are chasing the latest Nova to debut - The Last Nova. The book is also a retailer incentive, making this key much more desirable. We tracked it at a high sale of $43 for an NM copy and a current NM raw FMV at $34.

9: SPIDER-MAN: REIGN 2 #1 - Lesley Leirix Li (1:25) | Marvel | July 2024: Many might remember the first iteration of Spider-Man: Reign. Its release divided fans; half applauded the storyline, while others questioned why certain parts were included (radioactive sperm, anyone?). It was also the first time Peter's web-slinger was put on display in the infamous "Nude Panel" of the first issue, which was quickly recalled. This issue brings us back to this world, introducing new characters to the universe. This issue debuts Kitty Cat, Black Cat's daughter, and Earth-70237 Miles Morales. In addition to these appearances, this book is also the first cover appearance of Kitty Cat, and it is a retailer incentive. In addition to all this issue has going on, the cover is also by an often chased cover artist, Leirix Li. We tracked it at a high sale of $16 for a VF copy and a current NM raw FMV at $27.

10: PROOF #1 | Image | October 2007: A new supernatural crime series is coming to Fox, and it involves an FBI agent partnering with Bigfoot. The two go on missions to protect the world from creatures of myth. It is a fun twist on the buddy-cop stories, often described as a cross between Men in Black and The X-Files. The series comes to Fox from writers Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott, who previously worked on projects like Priest, Underworld: Blood Wars, and Bass Reeves. The premiere issue has generated tons of buzz, landing it on the Top 10 list this week! We tracked it at a high sale of $103 for an NM+ copy and a current NM raw FMV at $63.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Kevin Feige Teases X-Men Mutant Gene https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-x-men-mcu-kevin-feige-mutant-gene-tease/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 20:07:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 61209fe1-a127-44cc-b0ed-b4afb8466b0d

Kevin Feige addressed the future of the MCU's X-Men mutant gene floating around. While the world waits for Deadpool & Wolverine to absolutely rock theaters, Variety checked in with the head of Marvel Studios. A lot of fans are expecting the MCU's X-Men to make themselves known soon. However, the president of the company says the groundwork has already been laid down. Feige said, "I wouldn't say when but we've already hinted over the past few years at certain people possessing what will one day be known as the mutant gene. We'll be very excited when we tap into it." In numerous Marvel Studios projects so far, characters have started being identified with a mutation. Kamala Khan, Namor, and others all fit into that category.

With Deadpool & Wolverine promising to bring all those Fox-era shenanigans into the MCU, we could see even more overlap. Seeing as how this is The Multiverse Saga, not seeing X-Men aside from Charles Xavier and Wolverine would be a little strange. Their time is coming, and Deadpool & Wolverine is poised to kick the door down. With this being the only Marvel Studios film this year, Feige and his team know they had to knock it out of the park with the summer blockbuster. All the rumors abound online and it seems like we're in for quite a ride anyways.

MCU Getting X-Men Sometime Soon

It's been years of people asking for the X-Men at this point. (Don't fret, X-Men '97 happened literally this year and it's excellent.) But, even a critically-acclaimed animated series isn't enough for some fans. Feige fielded a question on The Marvels red carpet about the mutants and when people can expect to see them next. He was very diplomatic and gestured towards Deadpool & Wolverine as a point that some answers might surface. (Back then the movie was named Deadpool 3 and it's wild how much has changed since last fall.) Check out what he had to say before the X-Men chaos grew louder.

"I dont know if it's delicate, it's super exciting, but the X-Men are as solid and rich and great a concept and characters that exist. (There's) the return of the animated series next year, which we're very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today which really bring you back to that core of who the X-Men are and that soap opera that those characters represent. And in live-action, people will see....perhaps, soon."

Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman on Deadpool & Wolverine in Avengers 5 or Secret Wars: "We'll See" https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-and-wolverine-avengers-5-ryan-reynolds-hugh-jackman-secret-wars/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 19:20:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo f0c148f3-8d18-44b8-acee-6ffe0ed3e36d

Deadpool and Wolverine in Avengers: Secret Wars is... well, a secret. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprise their title roles in Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine, the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that is also bringing back even more characters from the Fox-made X-Men movies after the return of Patrick Stewart's Professor X (in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Kelsey Grammer's Beast (in 2023's The Marvels).

The first Deadpool 3 trailer back in February featured a Secret Wars-related Easter egg strongly hinting at what may be next for Wade Wilson (Reynolds) and razor-clawed X-Man Logan (Jackman). Then the fourth wall-breaking Merc with a Mouth name-dropped the multiverse-spanning crossover event in a profanity-laced "silence your phone" PSA that was released in April, again suggesting that Deadpool and Wolverine will return in the untitled Avengers 5 (dated for May 1st, 2026) and/or the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars (dated May 7th, 2027).

"I don't know. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah," an uncharacteristically tight-lipped Reynolds told Variety when asked if Deadpool and Wolverine will appear in the Avengers movies. Jackman -- who has played Wolverine for 25 years, but never in a movie as shrouded in secrecy as Deadpool & Wolverine -- also avoided giving a straight answer. "Clearly, this is our first major interview of this press tour," he said. "I'm not sure how to answer."

First-time MCU helmer Shawn Levy, a rumored contender for the currently vacant Avengers 5 director's chair, added that "we're going to get a far more packed and evasive answer for all future interviews." Reaffirming the can't-say-anything-about-this of their evasiveness, Reynolds quipped: "'An echoing cough in the distance; a hawk circles.' You can throw that in there if you like."

Marvel and Disney did show off 35 minutes of semi-spoilery Deadpool & Wolverine footage at a recent fan event, but with the caveat that the major spoilers and surprises -- and there are many -- are being held back until audiences around the world can experience the movie during opening weekend on July 26th.

"There's so many surprises in the movie we don't want the world to start talking about it before people actually get a chance to see it," Reynolds teased at the event. "But those 35 minutes, they cook. They're pretty damn incredible."

"Wait 'til you see the whole thing," Levy added. "There are a lot of surprises coming for you later this month."

Reynolds and Jackman star alongside returning Deadpool cast members Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Rob Delaney, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, and Stefan Kapi?i?; Succession star Matthew Macfadyen joins the MCU as TVA Agent Paradox, with The Crown's Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova. Deadpool & Wolverine is playing only in theaters July 26th.

Hugh Jackman Addresses Legacy of Playing Wolverine https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverine-hugh-jackman-logan-legacy-x-men-mcu-movies/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 17:56:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 2ca32baa-6d1f-43f2-899f-a09f7270c86f

Deadpool & Wolverine star Hugh Jackman shared his thoughts about the legacy of Wolverine. The Official Marvel Podcast is back with a new episode featuring the X-Men actor. He revealed that he wasn't a comic book fan from youth and really came to them after he got the role of Logan. Jackman says this ended up working out because he approached the material like many of his other roles and zeroed in on Wolverine's humanity. When it comes to the early X-Men films, those hints of pain beneath the surface captivated audiences. Jackman and his co-stars are still beloved for their roles all these years later. (So much so that a lot of audiences are expecting a lot of them to pop-up in Deadpool & Wolverine!) Check out how the Logan actor approached the character down below!

"I don't think I understood what it meant to the wider world," Jackman reflected. "I wasn't a big comic book fan, in particular, growing up. I had never heard of X-Men. In some ways, I'm really glad I didn't know. Because, I really approached Logan as I would any other character. Yes, he had claws coming out of him, and yes he could heal himself, yeah he had crazy hair. But, for me, it's just another character to embody with all the human-ness of him."

"I said, as an actor, I work as much on the voice and the physicality of any part I play. On film, it's your eyes, but every part of you that you use. Looking at these big beautiful images, I was like, 'Look at the economy!' They can sell an entire action sequence with 12 images," he exclaimed. "It was about marginalized communities, minorities, and all of this stuff. Look how unique they were and where they stood and the animal side of him. So, I was playing with all of that. I was in a room working on it. All those poses and all the things I did was everything taken off the comic books.

Deadpool & Wolverine Reignited Jackman's Love For The Character

Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters in just a couple of weeks. But, Jackman and Ryan Reynolds have been on a worldwide press tour promoting the movie. During the stop in Shanghai, the Wolverine star had heaps of praise for what they've been willing to do with Logan's character. The actor feels very fulfilled by the entire process. Interestingly, he says that it's been the greatest experience of his career. All of these comments set the bar high for Marvel Studios next film. The movie seems like it's on he way to be an absolute smash-hit.

"The experience of making the movie was also one of the greatest of my career, and I've been playing Wolverine for 25 years," Jackman shared with the crowd. "This experience exceeded anything I've done before as this character -- and in many other movies, in anything. I loved it. And I think it shows on the screen. You can feel the warmth. The movie has a warmth to it, and it's funny, and it's irreverent, and the action is crazy. But I think you can feel the friendship."

Funko Dives Back Into The Spider-Verse With New Spider-Man Pop Figures https://comicbook.com/movies/news/funko-dives-back-into-the-spider-verse-with-new-spider-man-pop-figures/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 16:01:00 +0000 Sean Fallon 0bf7ae65-d4cc-4f1e-9293-adddf3338db9 psx-20240710-112324.jpg

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Funko Pops

)

While we wait for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and a possible live-action film starring Miles Morales, Funko is launching a new wave of Pop figures inspired by the second film in the animated Spider-Verse trilogy. This time around we're getting Miles G. Morales, Mayday Parker, and unmasked Spider-Punk and Spider-Man 2099 figures.

The new collection of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Funko Pops are available to pre-order here at Entertainment Earth (free U.S. shipping on orders $79+ and here on Amazon now. You can find a ton of additional Funko Pop releases for this week right here via our master list, including this Tony Stark Iron Man 3 GITD Entertainment Earth exclusive.

What Is Beyond the Spider-Verse About?

Beyond the Spider-Verse is expected to deal with the fallout of the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) stuck on an alternate universe with a more villainous version of himself (Jharrel Jerome).

"Here's what I can promise, and I said it about the second one when we were in the middle of it: Phil Lord, Chris Miller, everybody, the producers on this, the directors they're going to bring in ... What they did on the first one is all the directors became executive producers. So they just keep adding to it. What I can promise is they are not going to stop until it's excellent," Peter B. Parker actor Jake Johnson confirmed to ComicBook.com. "And if that means it takes a little bit longer, if that means it's even bigger, if that means it's longer -- they don't play by anybody's rules. They work really hard. As actors in it, we're always shocked that we get called in to record on this last one. I think it was a month before it screened, where we could not believe we were still recording. So they're not going to quit until it's great and I have nothing but faith in them. But in terms of giving anything away [about the story], can't do it."

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is available to own and stream now. Its sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently between release dates.

When Will Miles Morales Appear in Live-Action?

The topic of Miles Morales making his live-action debut has been talked about at length in recent years, with the cast and crew of Sony's Spider-Man Universe advocating for the character to appear in that context. Spider-Verse producer Amy Pascal has been repeatedly vocal about the possibility, indicating that it would not happen until the conclusion of the current animated Spider-Verse trilogy.

"Someday," Pascal explained earlier this year. "Not until we make two more movies. Someday. Someday. We're very happy doing [the animated Spider-Verse movies]."

X-Men #1 Trailer Kicks Off the From the Ashes Era https://comicbook.com/comics/news/x-men-1-trailer-kicks-off-the-out-of-the-ashes-era/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 15:03:00 +0000 Russ Burlingame c2f3e1be-e22f-4f1c-9e51-2ae3434d6f02

Marvel today released a trailer for X-Men #1. Launching their "From the Ashes" era, the issue drops today from writer Jed MacKay and artist Ryan Stegman. The hope is that, spinning out of the wild events of the recently-concluded Krakoa era, X-Men #1 can be both a jumping-on point for new fans and an exciting turning point for the audience that's already been along for the ride. The launch trailer features art from MacKay and Stegman's best-selling debut issue, serving the purpose of the internet's beloved five-page previews, but this time with lights, cameras and...well, not really "action," per se, but some movement anyway.

Besides the release of the trailer, Marvel is also urging fans to keep an eye out for a From the Ahes checklist to help put the varios X-titles in order and context. Per the announcement, "each X-Title offers a different approach to mutant storytelling, ensuring there's something for every reader."

"This is very much a series about rebuilding," MacKay told IGN in a recent interview. "It's a series about finding your place in a world that you thought you'd left behind, and essentially taking the wreckage of something and trying to build something new from it, which we see sort of thematically and also quite literally. I mean, the X-Men are flying around in the Marauder, too. They're living in a Sentinel factory that they have salvaged - a former Orchis facility that they now live in. So this sort of scavenging and repurposing of what came before in order to construct a place for oneself in the world is very much a part of what our X-Men book is about."

Per its official synopsis, "X-Men #1 introduces a new team of X-Men operating out of a former sentinel factory in Alaska. Led by Cyclops, the lineup includes both classic mainstays, fan-favorite icons, and rising stars: Beast, Psylocke, Magik, Kid Omega, Temper, Juggernaut, and Magneto. In the wake of Krakoa's fall, these X-Men raise a flag of defiance! Deadly times call for radical action and as they battle for the destiny of the mutant species, Cyclops' team will confront new forces including the mysterious final remnant of the anti-mutant group Orchis!"

You can get the comic on digital platforms like ComiXology, or at your local comic shop.

Comic Book Reviews for This Week: 7/10/2024 https://comicbook.com/comics/news/new-comic-reviews-dc-marvel-image-july-10-2024/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 15:00:00 +0000 Chase Magnett 01fb61bf-1489-45f2-a2ca-8deb9620c279

Welcome to this week in comic book reviews! The staff have come together to read and review nearly everything that released today. It isn't totally comprehensive, but it includes just about everything from DC and Marvel with the important books from the likes of Image, Boom, IDW, Dark Horse, Dynamite, and more.

The review blurbs you'll find contained herein are typically supplemented in part by longform individual reviews for significant issues. This week that includes X-Men #1, From The DC Vaults: Death in the Family - Robin Lives! #1, The Domain #1, and The Hunger and the Dusk: Book Two #1.

Also, in case you were curious, our ratings are simple: we give a whole or half number out of five; that's it! If you'd like to check out our previous reviews, they are all available here.

DC #1

ABSOLUTE POWER: TASK FORCE VII #1

The first outing of Absolute Power: Task Force VII #1 borders on the edge of coherence as it fills readers in on what happened to the Shazam family in the wake of Amanda Waller's attack in Wonder Woman #11. All of the key points of exposition relating to other publications are stated clearly, which is perhaps the best thing that can be said of this issue. Otherwise, it lacks any clear dramatic structure with no clear protagonist, characters appearing from the ether, and unresolved action sequences. The issue itself seems like a partial collection of semi-related plots, but the artwork fails to give any of those individual pieces an aesthetic shine. Much of the issue is situated in the Rock of Eternity in a storage room that varies in size, contents, and arrangement seemingly between every panel. The result is a dismal acknowledgement of what's occurring on the fringes of Absolute Power and raises the question: Couldn't all of this have been included in a few narrative captions instead?. -- Chase Magnett

ACTION COMICS #1067

Action Comics #1067 marks a major tonal shift for the title with Gail Simone taking on the title as well as Rainbow Rowell taking on a backup story centered around Lois Lane. For Simone's "Challenge From the Stars Part One," we go back to a "lost tale early in Superman's incredible career" that sees him unexpectedly the champion of an alien race with the fate of Earth in the balance. And, perhaps even more unexpectedly, Lois and Jimmy are his backup. It's charming and, again a nice change of tone from recent arcs and stories, but at the same time there's something a little saccharine about it, a little bit every so slightly campy. There's also a quite a bit of tell-not-show which lends to a a somewhat cluttered page when you factor in the art. As for Rowell's "Lois & Clark: In Love. At Work," the story sees Lois as editor in chief of the Planet and sets up a different sort of conflict: Lois as Clark's boss. It's an interesting dynamic and feels very much like the start of a good story that will let Lois shine. The art feels a little rough in places, but that doesn't take away from much. Overall, a decent issue. -- Nicole Drum

BATMAN '89: ECHOES #3

Much of Batman '89: Echoes #3 is spent on a flashback explaining how Bruce Wayne found himself in Arkham Asylum impersonating Firefly. However, this story is moving at such a crawl, with such little forward momentum, that it's hard to appreciate it now moving backward. While the plot seems to pick up toward the end, outside of the flashback, this installment provides backstory for Batman '89's version of the Riddler (a far cry from Jim Carrey's puckish take on the character in Batman Forever) and nudges Harley Quinn and Barbara Gordon's arcs along slightly. Joe Quinones and Leonardo Ito's artwork makes the book feel lush and decadent but, with Sam Hamm's script set firmly in the bowels of Arkham, the languid pacing makes the telling a bit claustrophobic. With all the backstory one could hope to have finally filled in, and matters starting to turn for Harley and Barbara, we can at least hope that the action will pick up in the next issue. -- Jamie Lovett

BATMAN AND ROBIN #11

Batman and Robin #11 is, in a sense, a get up to speed sort of issue that reminds readers of Damian's trauma with Bane--he killed Alfred, just in case you forgot--and a quick rehash of the nuts and bolts of what Damian's been up to since Lazarus Planet: going to high school. After that, it leaps into things with Bane on Dinosaur Island, Batman and Robin set to bring him in and things quickly going awry thanks to Damian's unresolved trauma and leaves things with a tidy cliffhanger and the introduction of an unexpected character. The issue's got action, flashbacks, a Damian that acts on emotion rather than logic, father and son dynamic, and dinosaurs. It's a pretty good one. -- Nicole Drum

BATMAN: GOTHAM BY GASLIGHT - THE KRYPTONIAN AGE #2

The Kryptonian Age continues to expand, as several familiar faces make their first appearances in the "Gotham by Gaslight" era. A mystery is unfurling and attracting numerous forces, ranging from the League of Assassins to Bruce Wayne to the Queen of England herself. I'll admit that this is a fascinating issue, one that touches on some of the eldritch and pulp leanings of the "Gotham by Gaslight" world, but also suggests that things are more complex than meets the eye. -- Christian Hoffer

Looking back can be tricky, but From The DC Vault: Death in the Family - Robin Lives #1 does a fantastic job of taking an infamous story and providing it new life. By asking new questions and without leaning too much into nostalgia, the issue presents a compelling story that both scratches the "what if" itch and gives readers something entirely new they'll want to continue reading for issues to come. -- Nicole Drum

GREEN LANTERN #13

Absolute Power has taken over the DC universe, and that's where we find ourselves in Green Lantern #13. In some cases an event taking the spotlight can be a signigant detriment, but in this case, it actually works quite well. Writer Jeremy Adams moves Hal Jordan into the thick of "Absolute Power" immediately, and then kicks things off from there, weaving a number of pivotal Lantern characters into the narrative while also moving Jordan's individual story and the larger Lantern resistance story forward. A King Shark appearance wasn't on my bingo card, but it's perfection in Artist Fernando Pasarin and colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr's hands, as are several other big moments that leave an impression, including a key moment with Kyle Rayner and a new addition to the Lantern mythology. The back up story by Marc Guggenheim, Matthew Clark, Matt Herms, and Dave Sharpe shifts a bit to Lord Thaaros and provides some unexpected but welcome context regarding the current overseer of space. Green Lantern #13 is the best sort of tie-in that embraces the event but doesn't lose the plot of its own story, and is an easy book to recommend. -- Matthew Aguilar

OUTSIDERS #9

As Outsiders flows towards its finale, this installment illustrates that a heady and intriguing culmination is in store. Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing's script packs an unpredictable battle of words and fists into a short span of time, and Robert Carey's art only continues to get more majestic and ambitious in its intentions. Given the series' track record thus far, there's little doubt in my mind that this will deliver in its final chapters. -- Jenna Anderson

SINISTER SONS #6

Sinister Sons is able to give DC fans one of its best issues and acts as a good springboard to hoping that we see more from the sons of Sinestro and Zodd in the future. Sinson gets the lion's share of the attention here, attempting, in his own unique way, to have a heart-to-heart with his father. Shockingly enough, we receive one of the best characterizations of Sinestro here as the current Red Lantern attempts to tell his possible progeny that them being related isn't the end all, be all. Ultimately, one of the biggest drawbacks of the mini-series was the zig zagging of artistic responsibilities, but the Sons are able to justify their existences and then some. -- Evan Valentine

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #53

The Amazing Spider-Man #53 spends its space drawing the story's multiple plot threads together while continually alluding to the Green Goblin's unrevealed plan to build tension. When the final few pages arrive it seems the trap is set but rather than delivering a cliffhanger, it's unclear exactly who's controlling events and to what end. That's not to say the issue is confusing, rather it's a straightforward continuation of the prior issue that doesn't pay off the rising tension. The issue's highlights instead come from its sense of humor as Ms. Marvel's ragtag gang squares off with the Goblin and Spidey struggles to maintain himself, there's plenty of great gags (especially from Rek-Rap) to play against the high stakes. But inconsistent artistic styles and a sense of rising action without any clear destination make for an underwhelming installment of Amazing Spider-Man. -- Chase Magnett

ANNIHILATION 2099 #2

Annihilation 2099 #2 brings us Star Lord 2099, a fun character with the attitude of Peter Quill, the powerset of Captain Marvel, a Wakandan upbringing, a futuristic Warhammer reminiscent of Thor and a talking ship for good measure. She's not really a perfect one-to-one of any established character and is more a mishmash of different ideas. But watching her match whits with a living sun is quite a trip. It also looks like Dracula is the recurring villain throughout this miniseries, though his presence here is little more than a recap of what we got at the end of issue #1. -- Connor Casey

THE AVENGERS #16

The tie-in to Blood Hunt concludes with Captain America's ad hoc team defeating Baron Blood. It was fun seeing the old guard like Hercules and Quicksilver mix it up with Hazmat and Kate Bishop. Just goes to show how Earth's Mightiest Heroes has one of the deepest rosters in superhero comics. C.F. Villa will be missed on art duties, but he went out killing it as usual. This wasn't a crucial "Blood Hunt" series, but for monthly readers of Avengers, it served its purpose. -- Tim Adams

DAREDEVIL #11

I take back what I said in my review for Daredevil #10 - demonic Fisk is so much fun. Listening to the already well-spoken behemoth start quoting Old Testament scripture as he batters Matt and Elektra makes for a wild issue. Ahmed also has a great voice for Bullseye, who has fun toying with one of the children from Matt's shelter that he has kidnapped. I don't know how this "Seven Deadly Sins" arc will be viewed in the grand scheme of things, but these past couple of issues will easily go down as some of the best Kingpin work in a while. And that's a high bar to clear. -- Connor Casey

GET FURY #3

Get Fury #3 introduces readers to the Hanoi Hilton in the midst of an increasingly complex espionage plot. The action is centered in North Vietnam as Frank Castle walks the streets of Hanoi and Fury prepares for interrogation. Their sequences are brief and brutal, sometimes due to implied violence and sometimes due to the overtly horrific portrayals that Jacen Burrows crafts so well. Amidst these often spine-chilling moments, details are developed to curate the many sides and layers of the wars being conducted - embedding moral complexity in place of banal thrills. The antagonists to the south reveal the clearest enemies faced by both Castle and Fury with three distinct perspectives that are chilling for how understandable they all are. These men are not supervillains but reflections of very real historical actors, which fills their dialogue with subtext that ought to pull readers back for multiple rereads when Get Fury is complete. -- Chase Magnett

GHOST RIDER: FINAL VENGEANCE #5

The chickens are coming home to roost for Parker Robbins, as they usually do when he decides to don his supernatural moniked "The Hood." Now empowered by the Spirit of Vengeance, Parker has managed to take over the New York City Underworld but must deal with the ramifications of that to those close to him. Ultimately, this latest issue feels like it is sling shotting through some big events that could have used a little time to breath, especially when it came to Robbins' comeuppance. On the flip side, we continue to see Blaze's days as he struggles with the loss of Zarathos while trying to stop the Hood's current path of destruction. There are several moving pieces to this vehicle that could have used a tune-up at the end of the day but there's enough to keep the engine revving as its clear that Percy and Kin race to a finish line. -- Evan Valentine

GIANT-SIZE SILVER SURFER #1

You just gotta feel sorry for ol' Terrax the Tamer. All he wants is some respect put on his name, and not to be thought of as the "other" herald of Galactus. Silver Surfer does his best to talk some sense and reason into Terrax, but none of his wisdom seems to rub off. However, as standalone one-shots go, this was a well crafted tale that highlights the best out of Terrax and Silver Surfer. -- Tim Adams

HULK: BLOOD HUNT #1

It's easy to get lost in a larger event when a series has to suddenly shift gears for a tie-in, but the team behind The Incredible Hulk have delivered the best of both worlds. Series scribe Phillip Kennedy Johnson and regular artist Danny Earls working together on the issue certainly helps. The team are able to deliver a story that is not only self-contained, a satisfying addition to the larger "Blood Hunt" event, and which does not take away from what's going on in the solo series, hitting all three benchmarks. It also doesn't hurt that seeing the Hulk destroy vampires will never get old. -- Spencer Perry

KID VENOM #1

When you think of "Kid Venom" you might immediately think of Dylan Brock, the son of Venom veteran Eddie, or you might think of a new teenager donning the symbiote. What you might not expect is a Feudal Japan style story that features a new character wearing the suit in a world plagues by Symbiotes, a.k.a. Oni. For those who might not know, Kid Venom's origin story initially took place in both Death of The Venomverse and Kid Venom: Origins. What you might not also know is that those issues seem like required reading as this premiere issue has quite a few elements you might find confusing if you didn't brush up on that back story. One of the biggest strengths Kid Venom has is that it feels so different from many other Marvel comics on the market. Of all the stories in Marvel's repertoire, this one feels the most "manga like" as writer and artist Taigami clearly is paying tribute to the medium here. As an anime fan myself, you can definitely feel some Demon Slayer influence with this tale. Kid Venom is far from perfect but its an interesting enough story with some admirable art to make it worth checking out. -- Evan Valentine

SPIDER-BOY #9

Spider-Boy #9 hits on everything I've loved about the series to date, mixing epic adventure and lighthearted moments with a major twist right from the beginning. Dan Slott hits you with an intriguing setup and then shifts back to the humor-filled interactions that have become such a highlight of the series. That's not to say the book loses those bigger stakes, as they loom over everything as the issue moves towards its finale. That doesn't rob the book of its fun though, and that's partly due to the multiversal nature of the issue, which Nathan Stockman, Paco Medina, Erick Arciniega, and Joe Caramagna have a field day with by the way, especially with the worlds Bailey ends up crossing over with. If this issue is anything to go by, this arc has the potential to be insanely fun, and I can't wait to see what happens next. -- Matthew Aguilar

STAR WARS: AHSOKA #1

The Galactic Empire might have fallen, but that hasn't stopped nefarious figures from seeking power, as Ahsoka Tano and the Rebel Alliance are alerted to new threats that might side with Grand Admiral Thrawn. The emergence of these threats coincides with potential clues about the whereabouts of Ezra Bridger, resulting in Ahsoka enlisting Sabine Wren to aid her investigation. Given that this is an adaptation of a TV show, the pacing of that TV show doesn't entirely translate to a comic book as effectively, as we get exciting opening pages and exciting final pages and lots of exposition in between. Something that's also a bit different from watching the TV show is that the delivery of lines between Ahsoka and Sabine doesn't convey the tension between them in quite the same way, resulting in slight tweaks to the dialogue and body language from what audiences remember. Apart from the pages and pages of jargon about droids and the Rebellion and travel between docking bays, the overall premise of the story is condensed into something a bit less cryptic than the TV show, we just hope future issues don't suffer the same pacing hurdles as this premiere. -- Patrick Cavanaugh

THE ULTIMATES #2

The Ultimates #2 provides Captain America the spotlight as he awakens to learn how the country he represents crumbled in his absence - his holographic education intercut with a raid on the White House. The issue itself is in conversation with both the past and present as it reflects American history through the dystopian lens of Ultimate Invasion, showcases a White House dominated by capital, and draws contrasts with the original Ultimates. Writer Deniz Camp's superhero work has garnered a rewarding as dense, rewarding reads and it's the careful juxtaposition of perspectives that makes this issue so effective. Readers are allowed to linger on brief flashes of the past, but their focus is drawn to a thrilling Oval Office raid that carves out a few key moments of dialogue to expose the characters involved. It's impressive that such a layered set of ideas can be read as purely action-driven superhero comics, but readers will be missing much of what makes that action so exciting if they ignore the ideas beneath. The alternate history--barely addressed in other Ultimate titles--is well illustrated by drawing upon key themes and images without ever relying upon the obvious. As a result, Camp is able to address ideology and power structures, as opposed to specific individuals or moments. It's only near the end when Cap is asked what he thinks of America in the 21st century that readers become aware of how much this issue has to say about both that country and the superhero comics it produces. -- Chase Magnett

UNION JACK THE RIPPER: BLOOD HUNT #3

The final issue of Union Jack the Ripper: Blood Hunt provides a frightful antagonist for its climax, but struggles to imbue that climax with much meaning. Hunger emerges near the issue's start and appears like a nightmare designed for Resident Evil or Elden Ring in Kev Walker's pencils with an striking, regal frame that reveals eldritch horrors as the story continues. The battle with Hunger serves as a suitably bloody finale for this underdog battle against vampires across all of London. However, Hunger's sudden appearance lacks context in the story and their connection with the infected in London and the global crisis is hardly addressed. As a result the consequences of defeating or being defeated by the monster are unclear until after the battle, and even then the narrative captions are vague. While there are surprises and sacrifices made, they struggle to resonate in a plot that seems largely detached from the events it's portraying. The action and gore may be great, but don't expect to think much about these characters or their struggles after the final page is turned. -- Chase Magnett

WOLVERINE: BLOOD HUNT #3

Wolverine: Blood Hunt #3 has Logan point out the obvious - fun as it is to see Wolverine mow down hordes of vampires, it does get old after a while. The added twist that Logan allows himself to be turned in order to take down Maverick and the vampires he has aligned with is fun and makes for some killer visuals, the fact that the main event comic looks to be getting tied up in a nice little bow in the coming weeks tells me none of this will stick past the final spin-off issue. Still, if you're hankering for more of Juan Jose Ryp's ultra-violent artwork this comic delivers. -- Connor Casey

X-MEN #1

X-Men #1 isn't poorly crafted but is indebted to a version of the X-team we've seen in the past. X-Men #1 lacks a strong hook, seemingly hoping that simply sending out these characters under familiar circumstances will be enough to make its case. It's not. Perhaps that's overly critical--the issue is functional and capably sets the stage for future adventure, and it isn't a bad-looking comic--but it doesn't make much of a statement. -- Jamie Lovett

X-MEN: HEIR OF APOCALYPSE #3

The steady winnowing of contestants continues in X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #3 as the stage is set for the miniseries' climax later this month. While that ongoing conflict creates moments for humorous or dramatic character spotlights, specifically on Mister Sinister and Emma Frost, there's little drama to be found in a story with such a familiar structure. That problem is doubled by the abundant lack of stakes surrounding a title with no clear purpose or power. Even as Apocalypse battles Angel on Arrako in a battle without momentum, he admits that he has no further plans for Earth. The only tension left in the miniseries surrounds the question of who will become Apocalypse's heir and whether that means anything. Perhaps the answers will provide a much more engaging finale in issue #4. -- Chase Magnett

AIN'T NO GRAVE #3

The stages of grief structure of Ain't No Grave really works for it and this week's issue, "Bargaining," is exceptional. Ryder goes to earn that chip she needs for the next stage in her journey and to do it, she has to play an extremely high stakes game of cards. What's interesting about this is that while Ryder does this by doing what she's done best in her life--scheming and cheating--it allows for readers to see how she's used these skills in the past to take up for her family and, simultaneously, how those efforts may be diminishing her humanity as we go along this journey. It's an interesting story and it's really well done, serving as both entertainment and cautionary tale. -- Nicole Drum

THE DOMAIN #1

The Domain #1 adopts the imagined comic from Chip Zdarsky's Public Domain into a 5-issue Image Comics miniseries in collaboration with artist Rachael Stott. It is the modernization of a familiar superhero dating back decades in the hands of relatively young creators seeking to diversify the themes and characters of what came before. That concept is a perfect fit for Public Domain, a send up of the superhero comics industry, and that's because it's an exceedingly familiar pitch for readers of superhero comics. For better or for worse, The Domain #1 succeeds in being exactly what it's pitched as and joins an oversaturated market. -- Chase Magnett

FALLING IN LOVE ON THE PATH TO HELL #2

After a wild opening issue, Falling In Love On The Path To Hell #2 lays out the stakes for readers. Our two heroes have washed up on the shores of Purgatory and their only means of survival are to team up with warriors from across the ages to fight the endless horde that makes its way up from Hell each night. Every action panel is a grimy, flesh-covered mess, making it abundantly clear that while it's not Hell, it's not much better. The "love" aspect of the title also appears to be either purely metaphorical or the ultimate long game, as Asami isn't one for talking and doesn't think much of Macraith, even though he's gradually walking right up to the line of just being Red Dead Redemption's Arthur Morgan. -- Connor Casey

GEIGER #4

Geiger #4 presents readers with a holding pattern as Geiger and Nate track Barney's kidnapper through a series of repetitive events. There's another clash with mutants that provides a handful of exciting action panels, but also highlights how often the series utilizes physical appearance to denote moral standing; it's also a gratuitous obstacle that seemingly exists for the sake of inserting a fight into this issue. There's also more talk of specific books and memories with little of substance being added to what readers already know. The result is a long haul to an obvious confrontation and the promise of more animal violence ahead. Presentation isn't enough to make this slow burn less miserable. -- Chase Magnett

MOON MAN #3

It's still not entirely clear what exactly the titular Moon Man is capable of doing, but that doesn't mean it's not cool as hell to look at. Series artist Marco Locati (aided by color artist Igor Monti) delivers spellbinding panels when his powers are in use, even his fellow super-powered friends in the series have amazing moments to bask in. This is the main pillar holding up Moon Man, but slower sequences that try to fill in the gaps of the narrative are less effective, and almost feel like writers Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi) and Kyle Higgins are trying too hard to build tension in stilted ways. -- Spencer Perry

PRECIOUS METAL #2

Those hoping for an easy-breezy tale may find themselves lost by the swath of unique vocabulary and environments in Precious Metal but it's a rewarding series for readers eager to get lost in its dense narrative. TRANSFORMERS #10

Beachcomber proves to be another distinctive addition to the cast of Transformers as the series continues rapidly expanding its scope. Although there's plenty of gloriously depicted action and titanic set pieces in this issue, Beachcomber's origin and subsequent dialogue provide a new perspective on Cybertron's never-ending war and the beating heart of a busy issue. Surrounding this non-violent disposition is a sense of acceleration on both sides as they prepare for battle. Although Shockwave's strategy is consistently more brutal--delivering some panels that are genuinely shocking to read--the issue never allows the Autobots carte blanche for their own choices. That grounded tone resonates as each new terror is made all the worse because of how it impacts innocents, regardless of intent. It's a difficult line to walk, especially given the very premise of Transformers, but one that Johnson and Corona walk exceedingly well. By the issue's end it's clear that the worst is yet to come and the stunning depiction of both action and character combined make that terrible future seem irresistible. -- Chase Magnett

THE WHISPER QUEEN: A BLACKSAND TALE #3

The Whisper Queen #3 delivers readers both a satisfactory conclusion and undeniably enticing introduction in the miniseries' final issue. The Whisper Queen arrives to confront heroes from both this Blacksand tale and its predecessor in a sprawling action sequence beautifully realized by Kris Anka. Every figure receives a highlight within the very busy battle against necrotic villains, often serving to further characterize these already dynamic personalities. If the final showdown were all this issue had to deliver, it would be satisfying in its own right, especially given the bittersweet nature of victory. But within all of that action, Zdarsky and Anka gracefully embed worldbuilding lore that arrives naturally as part of the battle and explodes reader expectations for where this series of Blacksand stories may be leading. It enhances the current three-issue arc while suggesting a much larger saga ahead in a difficult balancing act. Yet the combination of excellent characterization, subtle worldbuilding, and thrilling action delivers a cliffhanger that is bound to make readers yearn to delve ever deeper into the stories of Blacksand. DEADWEIGHTS #4

Deadweights #4 is the strongest issue of the series thus far. Moving the action to the city allows Sebasti?n P?riz to create far more interesting backgrounds than the mostly empty desert landscapes and pristine laboratories of past issues, not to mention more interesting opponents for our duo of conflicted protagonists in a pack of robotic animals. Tyrone Finch's script highlights the fundamental differences in Jerry and Clarence's outlooks as Clarence shows he's far more interested in harming his enemy than saving a bystander. As the series progresses, it hones closer in on its central question, whether these ex-supervillains deserve the second chances they're after. There's still the lingering question about making restitution for their past deeds, but by giving us a glimpse at the normal, mundane lives they may choose to live, Deadweights #4 goes a long way in creating empathy for these burned-out henchmen. -- Jamie Lovett

KILL ALL IMMORTALS #1

When the philanthropist Frey finds herself the unlikely target of some intimidating figures, she realizes it might be time to introduce her boyfriend to the rest of her family to give him a better glimpse of her history. Tensions quickly flare and Owen realizes why Frey might have kept her family a secret for so long. A significant portion of this book is just about wealthy figures dressed in nice clothing talking about businesses and family reputations, while there's also a few glimpses of violence scattered throughout, creating a feeling that we're about to witness Succession meets Game of Thrones. The characters themselves are all largely one-dimensional and forgettable, as are their conversations, while the artwork fails to elevate the narrative in any significant way. Even though a majority of the issue feels quite bland, there are reveals in the final pages that do circumvent our expectations of the origins of this lineage that have us intrigued about what's just over the horizon, so when it comes to delivering a premiere issue that encourages you to pursue a storyline, the book succeeds on that front. -- Patrick Cavanaugh

PROFANE #2

Profane is both a highly engaging and immensely frustrating endeavor. This lead character is great and the series really nails the noir elements. There's even an unexpected element of questioning your own place in creation that sets this apart from most meta narratives. But there are also so many moments throughout this issue that create needlessly complicated situations. The relationship between the fiction and non-fiction worlds will absolutely tie you in knots if you think about it for more than a couple of seconds. Anniversary issues can often be a complicated mixed bag, unsure of whether to gleefully champion the past or tee up a meaningful future. Rick and Morty's ten-year celebration wears that conflict on its sleeve, and the result is honestly delightful to witness. Regardless of how long you have been following the franchise on its wacky journey thus far, Alex Firer's frenetic script and Fred C. Stresing and Dean Rankine's endlessly-clever art are packed with tons of successful punchlines and bizarre Easter eggs. This is definitely a must-read for any Rick and Morty fan. -- Jenna Anderson

STAR WARS: THE HIGH REPUBLIC ADVENTURES #7

At some point many of these High Republic Jedi stories just feel like they're spinning their wheels. These characters are still interesting and their designs catch your eye, but it's a struggle at times in this issue to really connect to anything you're reading. After seven issues, caring shouldn't be this much of a chore. -- Charlie Ridgely

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMICS CELEBRATION #1

IDW Publishing throws the Ninja Turtles a 40th birthday part with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 40th Anniversary Comics Celebration #1, which features 11 new stories across 8 different TMNT comics and animation continuities. The collection does a great job at highlighting the distinctive tone of each different version of the Turtles, even seemingly similar ones such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Saturday Morning Adventures, both inspired by the 1987 series but with differing flavors. Each story has its charm, and none overstay their welcome, but highlights include Kevin Eastman's moody, poetic reminiscence of the original Turtles he created with Peter Laird; Tristan Jones' expansive reflection on his fan-favorite but unfinished "Gang Wars" story, Khary Randolph's punchy pages featuring the Turtles of the 2003 animated series (my favorite Turtles TV series, which employed Randolph as a concept artist), and most of all, Tom Walz and Michael Dialynas "Father's Day," an intimately drawn and understated story that (speaking from experience) may hit like a gut punch for anyone who has recently lost a parent. It's a strong collection with something for every TMNT fan and plenty of reasons to revisit after the 40th-anniversary festivities conclude. -- Jamie Lovett

X-Men #1 Review: Returning to a Familiar Status Quo https://comicbook.com/comics/news/x-men-1-review-marvel-comics-mackay-stegman/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 14:00:00 +0000 Jamie Lovett 4ce3b552-2419-4851-8b02-5ab0c2512465

After reading X-Men comics--or even superhero comics more broadly--for long enough one may notice a pattern. Low sales or a lack of interest will create fertile ground for experimentation with a character or concept. A new, bold, exciting, and often divisive take will emerge and serve as a lightning rod attracting both excited fans and traditionalist critics. Then, for one reason or another, that moment of creative reinvention will end and is almost always followed by a "back to basics" relaunch that reverts to something close to a previous status quo that, in the minds of many fans, represents the platonic ideal of the character or team. "X-Men: From the Ashes" begins this week with X-Men #1, the latest such "back to basics" scaling down after the top-down reimagining of the mutant corner of the Marvel Universe that was the Krakoan era. As many expected, the comic book is ripe with nostalgia for past eras, but perhaps not those that were expected.

Written by Jed MacKay, with art by Ryan Stegman and inker JP Mayer, and colors by Marte Gracia, X-Men #1 begins 10 (or X in Roman numerals) months after the fall and disappearance of Krakoa. With their island home gone, mutants are again scattered and divided, with some trying to integrate back into human culture while others remain unwilling to reassimilate. Cyclops and his team represent the latter, making their base of operations an abandoned Orchis Sentinel factory on the outskirts of a small Alaskan town whose residents used to work there, a statement home if ever there was one. The team is mostly comprised of mutants with sordid pasts who may have difficulty reintegrating with humanity even if they wanted to since mutant immunity is a thing of the past. Instead, they've decided to lean into their outlaw status and take the protection of mutants as their mission, with few qualms about how this provokes their human neighbors.

Where many expected the "From the Ashes" era to be a hard throwback to the 1990s when the X-Men were at the peak of their push into wider popular culture, that's not the atmosphere of the first issue. With Cyclops leading a borderline paramilitary team of mutant heavy hitters with little regard for human rules, it has more in common with the Uncanny X-Men run that followed the events of Avengers vs. X-Men in the 2010s--much of the roster is the even same--but less bold. That may be down to MacKay's writing of Cyclops, who comes off as less revolutionary and more tired and embittered than the last time he played this role. There are also several callbacks to Grant Morrison's New X-Men run, from the re-emergence of the philosophies of John Sublime and the U-Men to the presence of Kid Omega and Xorn, to direct references to the events of stories like "Riot at Xavier's." It's still nostalgia, but not the nostalgia many were expecting.

It's an action-oriented debut, and Stegman and JP Mayer know how to deliver there. The page layouts and compositions do their best to be constantly in the reader's face. It's not the widescreen comics style of old that emphasized quiet grandeur and clean linework. Stegman's pages are busier, more frenetic, containing more superhero chaos. This visual density is reminiscent of 1990s X-Men comics, though Stegman manages to keep it more capably apace.

With a reasonably large cast of characters, X-Men #1 can only briefly summarize who these mutants are and why they're on Cyclops' team. Magik and Juggernaut want to smash things and have an unexpected, almost juvenile sibling-like bond going (I'd love to go behind the scenes and learn why Juggernaut was chosen for this comic book instead of Colossus, Magik's actual brother). Kid Omega is there because he doesn't have anywhere else to go. Temper is there to keep an eye on her ex and the rest of the X-Men, aiming to make them better than they have been (she spent a good chunk of the Krakoa era in a psychic prison hole). Psylocke is there because she's the proactive type. Cyclops, as mentioned, seems weary, while Magneto has already traded the soft touch he showed in the final days of Krakoa for high theatrics and intimidation. Meanwhile, Beast has been reset to factory settings after a complicated decade.

But the closest thing to a thesis statement in X-Men #1 may come not from a team member but from Wolverine, who gets rescued but then turns down an offer to join up as he's no longer interested in playing the "civilization game." This feels like a rejection of having a big, unifying concept for all the X-books to follow, as in the previous era. Rather we have a status quo that is more like the 1990s in that several groups of X-people approach human-mutant relations in different ways - Cyclops' team as the bold operators, Rogue's team more likely with a softer touch, Emma and Kitty doing the school thing again, X-Factor trying to place nice with the government, etc.

That could lead to interesting stories when the groups undoubtedly bump into each other. But can any of those ideas carry a series on its own merits? X-Men #1 isn't poorly crafted but is indebted to a version of the X-team we've seen in the past. X-Men #1 lacks a strong hook, seemingly hoping that simply sending out these characters under familiar circumstances will be enough to make its case. It's not. Perhaps that's overly critical--the issue is functional and capably sets the stage for future adventure, and it isn't a bad-looking comic--but it doesn't make much of a statement.

Stephen King Praises Jeremy Renner for Mayor of Kingstown Return After Snowplow Accident https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/stephen-king-praises-jeremy-renner-mayor-of-kingstown-return-snowplow-accident/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 13:02:00 +0000 Timothy Adams d6e1d279-10ea-4b34-b9a3-9c555dffec4b

The "King of Horror" Stephen King is heaping praise down on Jeremy Renner for overcoming his snowplow accident and returning to Mayor of Kingstown. The legendary author is known for his horror adaptations Carrie, The Shining, and It spent the Fourth of July holiday taking in some TV, which took him to the Paramount+ streaming service. One of the original series on Paramount+ is Mayor of Kingstown, a crime thriller starring Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner. The third season recently debuted and marks Renner's return to acting following his nearly tragic snowplow accident last year. But Renner is back and on the small screen and captivating audiences once again, including Stephen King.

"I have no f***ing clue what's going on in THE MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN, but I love this show," Stephen King said on X (formerly Twitter). "It reminds me of THE SHIELD and SONS OF ANARCHY. I had no fucking idea what was going on in those, either."

He then praised Jeremy Renner's character, Mike McLusky, who is the de facto "mayor" of the Michigan town where the McLusky family helps to mediate disputes between the police, gangs, and prisoners.

"What I know is Mike McLusky drives around in a badass Lincoln Connie. That's all I need to know," King added. "Also, that guy Bunny [Tobi Bamtefa] is a badass." He concluded with, "Also, Jeremy Renner is a badass who got run over by a snowplow and came back for Season F*cking Three!"

Jeremy Renner talks Mayor of Kingstown Season 4

Jeremy Renner has given an update on the chances of a fourth season of Mayor of Kingstown. "I have to make it through Season 3 first," Renner recently explained to Collider. "We'll see if I do. I've enjoyed being with this character and exploring, and I always think there's more to explore. When the world is set up so beautifully, like it is in Mayor of Kingstown, and all the chess pieces are there, every time you play chess, it's a new game. It's like that with this [show]. For the audience, they just get more involved and invested in the characters, just as I do. I've only seen the first episode, so I'm excited to see the rest of the season. I don't know half the things. I only focused on my part."

What is Jeremy Renner's Mayor of Kingstown about?

Jeremy Renner's Mike McLusky and his Michigan prison town world are teetering on the brink of becoming an all-out warzone when some powerful new players start showing up on his shores. Mike and his loose coalition of allies (no both sides of the law) are going to have to stand on business to prove that Kingstown is still their jungle to rule.

A series of explosions rock Kingstown and its citizens, as a new face of the Russian mob sets up shop in the city, and a drug war rages inside and outside prison walls. The pressure is on Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) to end the war but things get complicated when a familiar face from his incarcerated past threatens to undermine the Mayor's attempts to keep the peace among all factions.

X-Men '97 Gets Major Update for New Seasons https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/x-men-97-major-update-new-writer-beau-demayo-replacement/ Wed, 10 Jul 2024 02:45:00 +0000 Spencer Perry d60d2628-d3d6-4c32-a9b8-5516239f622b

Marvel's X-Men '97 premiered under weird circumstances earlier this year as series showrunner Beau DeMayo parted way with Marvel just days before the first episodes were released on Disney+. No official word was ever revealed about why Marvel and DeMayo went their separate ways, but execs at Marvel continued to speak fondly of him and DeMayo himself continued to talk about the show as episodes were being released. Now a new update has arrived concerning the future of Marvel's X-Men '97, with a report from Deadline revealing that Marvel's What If...? scribe Matthew Chauncey is set to take over as the writer for the series.

According to the trade, Chauncey will succeed Beau DeMayo as the lead writer for the show, but Chauncey will actually be penning the THIRD season of Marvel's X-Men '97. Before parting ways with Marvel Studios, Beau DeMayo had already written both season 1 and season 2 for X-Men '97. The report goes on to note that the scripts for season 2 have been revised, but that Chauncey's work on season 3 is now in active development. He'll work along side X-Men '97 director Jake Castorena and consulting producers Larry Houston and Eric and Julia Lewald (who returned to the Marvel team after working on X-Men: The Animated Series in the 1990s).

Speaking in a previous interview with ComicBook's Phase Zero podcast earlier this year, Jake Castorena opened up about the process of Season 2 of X-Men '97, equating it to baking a cake. He added, "Nobody wants to ruin a cake. I don't want to ruin a cake. Let us bake it," Castorena laughed. "The cake is well underway and being made, being fabricated as we speak. There is no rest for the wicked I guess. To use that phrase. We rolled right into Season 2, while we were on Season 1!"

"I did write a lot of Season 2," DeMayo previously shared about his involvement in season 2 of X-Men '97. "However, unlike Season 1, I will not be heavily involved or leading production, cast records, design, editorial, post, music, etc., nor doing any production rewrites as it relates to the creative vision of the show. This is why I've said I can't really speak to Season 2. But, looking forward to seeing the final product with you all whenever it airs. I have high hopes."

Original X-Men: The Animated Series cast members Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Lenore Zann (Rogue), George Buza (Beast), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler), and Christopher Britton (Mister Sinister) reprise their roles from the '90s series while returning cast members Catherine Disher (original Jean Grey), Chris Potter (original Gambit), Alyson Court (original Jubilee), and Lawrence Bayne (original Cable) voice new characters.

The new X-Men '97 cast includes Ray Chase (Cyclops), Jennifer Hale (Jean Grey), JP Karliak (Morph), AJ LoCascio (Gambit), Holly Chou (Jubilee), Isaac Robinson-Smith (Bishop), and Matthew Waterson (Magneto).

X-Men '97 is now streaming on Disney+.

Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir Series Casts Brendan Gleeson as Its Villain https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/spider-man-noir-tv-series-casts-brendan-gleeson-nicolas-cage/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 22:59:00 +0000 Cameron Bonomolo 207df0f6-aee9-4661-9875-4522ee4c0397

Brendan Gleeson is the latest actor to be caught within Nicolas Cage's spider web. The Golden Globe and Oscar-winning star of The Banshees of Inisherin has been cast as the villain of Sony's live-action Spider-Man Noir series for Amazon and MGM+, Variety reports. Gleeson is the latest addition to the still-growing cast that includes Cage as a version of the black-clad private investigator he voiced in 2018's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and New Girl's Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson.

Details about Gleeson's role weren't immediately available, but Marvel's original Spider-Man Noir comic re-imagined many of Spider-Man's classic villains as gangster types in 1930s New York. They included Norman "The Goblin" Osborn, a carnival freak turned crime lord, and his carnie cronies Kraven (a former animal trainer), the Vulture (an animalistic freak show cannibal), and the Chameleon (a master of disguise).

Noir "tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city's one and only superhero," the official synopsis states.

It has been reported that Cage's character isn't Peter Parker, who was reimagined as an investigative reporter and crusading crime-fighter who took on the mob against the backdrop of the Great Depression in the 2008 Spider-Man Noir series by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, and Carmine Di Giandomenico.

Emmy Award-winning director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) is set to direct and executive produce the first two episodes of the eight-episode series from co-showrunners and executive producers Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel's The Punisher, Shantaram). The duo developed the series with Spider-Verse visionaries Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and Sony's Spider-Man movies producer Amy Pascal, with the trio also serving as executive producers.

"No one else could bring such pathos, pain, and heart to this singular character," Katherine Pope, President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, has said of Cage's Noir character. Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios, added that the Oscar-winning Leaving Las Vegas actor and Longlegs star "is an ideal choice for our new superhero."

Gleeson has starred in such dramatic fare as The Banshees of Inisherin, The Tragedy of Macbeth, Braveheart, and Gangs of New York. Along with his role as "MadEye" Moody in several Harry Potter movies, Gleeson's credits include the films Mission: Impossible II and 28 Days Later, and the television series Mr. Mercedes, The Comey Rule, and State of the Union.

Deadpool & Wolverine's New Promo Teases MCU Changes https://comicbook.com/movies/news/deadpool-wolverines-mcu-promo-tva-cassandra-nova-changes/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 18:31:00 +0000 Aaron Perine 49a6436f-48fe-417f-91ff-9680512ff454

Deadpool & Wolverine teased some big changes for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the movie's latest TV spot. On social media, Deadpool & Wolverine showed off more of Matthew MacFadyen's Paradox delivering a speech to Wade Wilson. He calls Deadpool "a hero among heroes," or at least he claims he can become one of them. The Time Variance Authority worker also says that the mercenary has been chosen for a "higher purpose" in saving the multiverse. (That sure does sound similar to another MCU favorite who has tangled with the TVA before...) So, the table is set for Ryan Reynolds' hero to tangle with the big bad of the film, Cassandra Nova. You can check out the new teaser down below for yourself.

Another fun nugget from the trailer is that Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin, actually puts those telepathic powers to work against Deadpool & Wolverine. The previous footage of the duo walking into a town set from earlier trailers appears to end with them being blown an entire city block through the front window display of a store. Corrin's villain is on a different level than some of the bad guys that Deadpool has come across in his own universe. By the looks of things, even having a Wolverine handy might not be enough to stop what's coming. Dogpool is also with Wade and Logan at this point as Hugh Jackman's X-Men insults his friend. The hype continues to build until Deadpool & Wolverine's release in just 3 weeks!

The TVA Teases Big Things For Deadpool & Wolverine

Loki's TVA is back for the new MCU feature.

If the words Time Variance Authority made you double-take up above, the might be expected. The TVA appeared in Marvel's Loki series. Despite being one of the more popular Marvel TV shows on the streaming platform, some Deadpool & Wolverine viewers might not have made the trek to see Tom Hiddleston's temporal shenanigans. Never fear tho, it's nothing a quick google search or explainer video won't solve. Also, director Shawn Levy told The Associated Press that there won't be any "Marvel Homework" headed into the movie of the summer.

(That's probably just the normal amount of reference and thinking any modern blockbuster series needs to understand the latest installment. Imagine walking into Fast X Part 2 without any prior knowledge of Vin Diesel's car capers and feeling like it was too much to do a quick Intenet search to refresh what went down in Part 1 at least? Silly.)

"I was a good student in school. I'll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies," Levy said earlier this year about the prospect of studying before hitting the theater. "I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn't want to presume that. This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research."
